I just think Funko is getting extremely lazy at this point, and these bootleg companies are getting smarter. Funko is just making recolors and their own designs and not listening to what fans want from them, bootleg companies are indeed being clever and making characters that Funko has not made yet or will never make, but still it doesn't mean it's ok, it's still illegal. I really expect more from Funko, I think they should make the characters that people wanted from them for years, and make characters that they missed in the og games, and then they can make their own designs and recolors and fnaf ar. Its good they are keeping up with the new games since we are getting a ruin wave, but I still expect them to do more. They would make so much more money if they give fans what they want. I feel like Kane was a bit harsh , I see Dawko making the withered but they are 50$ and they aren’t the same original fnaf plush design which is cool because it’s diffrent but some people might want the og plush design so the bootlegs are the best we can get for fnaf withered plushies for a lot cheaper then hex with the original plush design.
If you're in the transformers community theres a type where theyre not bootlegs but third party. They make high quality transformers for about half the price and basically do what these bootleggers are doing rn. I really wish the community would be more open to alternatives to the official merch. And as you said most of the withered merch we are officially getting are expensive compared to these. But tbh I think I might buy these because they fit in with my funko collection and look really nice. But be weary, don't just buy bootlegs on a whim, most are terribly made, but these are quite well made from what ive seen. So just wait till some actually hit the market before buying to see their quality.
I’m just glad both Youtooz and Hex are finally giving us high quality withered merch because even though these bootlegs are surprisingly well detailed and pretty good we should always those who are officially working with the franchise

I really cant care that its illegal. Fnaf as an IP already makes so much money. I dont think anybodys financially hurting because of some bootlegs. Its a pretty ballsy move though to just keep the characters names on their listings lmao. I see a lot of bootleg poppy playtime merch when im at the mall and they at least have the grace to call it "fuzzy monster" and whatever other generic title.

I would always tell myself to never buy bootleg FNAF merch because it looks funny and goofy. But then would come in terrible condition and would have terrible quality material. But for these I would just buy them because Funko would never make a whole withered merch wave even though they've made a withered bonnie mystery mini and include withered freddy in product packaging.
The topic is very mixed for me. I feel like at some point the products kind of get to a realm of quality that makes them more so third party than bootleg. These companies (XSmart and VNK) are to FNAF what companies like Demoniacal Fit and Kong Studios are to Dragon Ball; Third Party Companies that push out products for fandoms that the official license holders don't. I also feel like these are kind of in the same realm of buying custom plushies or commissioning them. Another thing is that Hex and Youtooz, while they have excellent quality, are expensive as hell, (If you want all four of the withereds from Hex you'll probably be paying over $200) and don't fit into the style of the rest of FNAF Plush Lines. Maybe a solution to the issues presented with the bootleggers would be too actually give them the license?
I wouldn't call them bootlegs as the intent MAY not be to copy funko as much as it might be to upgrade their plushies, so "unofficial" is in my opinion more fitting in this specific case; also most of the plushies that funko makes are completly dog shit so if there is an alternative that is much better - I'm taking it and I don't care weather it's official or not, it should be Funkos job to create a good product(they don't) so I will buy somewhere else.

Funko's plushies, with time, have progressively gone more and more downhill. My only issue with these plushies is that they arent official, and if they were allowed by Cawthon, the creator, they would be perfectly fine. But, at the sams time, why would Amazon allow unliscensed merch on their website?
My question is - what makes these plushies different from any other fan-made plushies? OK, I agree with you on the exact copy plushies, such as Frostbear and Spring Bonnie. I don't disagree with that. Those are definitely bootlegs because they copy an existing product. But in regards to the other ones, what makes them a bootleg, and not a fan-made fnaf inspired plush? From what I've seen and heard - Xsmart global are aiming to move away from these 'bootlegs' and just become a fan-made-plush company instead. There are 100's of sellers on Etsy, kofi, Mercari, twitter, etc - who all do this same thing? Make plushies of popular fnaf characters? There are countless who make plushies in the 'Funko' style. Many even make their prototypes and send them off to factories to produce multiple of the final product, just the same as Xsmart. Many of these also have their own websites. I'd be curious to hear your take on this, would be great to have a discussion about it some time :)

They make the prototypes by hand, then have the final product mass produced by a company - as its cheaper and more efficient. The only difference here is that those plushies aren't in the typical 'fnaf' style, which is something Funko, Sanshee & GoodStuff all took from the games. It's not something they made up originally. Would you give those kinds of plushies the same sort of treatment? Saying they're 'illegal'? They are - by your definitions - using characters they do not own, mass producing the plushies, and selling them online. Just because they're smaller sellers and often artists and creatives, do they get a special pass that Xsmart don't? Or is it more so just a case of Xsmart being the talked-about one off that's popular right now, that's leading to this discussion? To be fair these bootleg companies are doing a better job of making merch of characters that people been wanting from funko to make for years. It's been almost 10 years since funkos been making fnaf merch and they still haven't made the withereds till now with new mystery minis and withered bonnie having a funko pop and mini. I'm glad funko is losing the fnaf license to jazwears so that jazwears can make better merch than funko.

the trademark ones come from sweatshops as well so buying merch is supporting the dystopian consumerist system in general, so while I avoid palm oil & animal tested products I will occasionally get both trademark & bootleg plushies
As someone who's been a Transformers fan for years, I would call these "third party" not bootlegs. To me, bootleg implies low quality, these are seemingly official level quality and remind me heavily of companies like Mastermind Creations. MMC made Transformers figures based mainly on comic versions that never got real toys, especially IDW's comics characters like Nova Prime, Tarn (Tarn finally did), and The DJD. And they were very high quality for being "Chinese bootleg Transformers" even now their version of Tarn called Kultur sells for around $200 brand new, these feel like the FNaF version of MMC more than knockoffs, which by licensing standards it is "illegal", however I feel if Funko and Youtooz isn't gonna make certain characters like Lolbit, why not. I think it's wrong to make the ones that Funko and Youtooz already make, but characters like the Withereds, Lolbit, etc are free game for third party companies, but that's just my two cents.

Here's my views with bootlegs. I get bootlegs of existing merch that is no longer available constantly to customize. I could get take a rare figure that's never going to get a reprint thats worth a crazy amount and mod the heck out of it or I can buy a bootleg thats priced for a couple bucks and make customs with that. A lot of Fnaf funko figures now are crazy expensive and some are super hard to find while the bootlegs are cheap. I want to make the Blob and Official Baby & Funtime Freddy are crazy expensive and super rare. Which I could buy off ebay and destroy for a custom but even by buying off Ebay. Im no longer supporting the company since they are no longer being made by Funko anyways. I can leave the official ones alone for fans to buy for their collections and i can buy cheap full sets of Bootleg Figures for my customs. Bootleggers unfortunately are giving us the reprints and custom figures we've wanted meanwhile all the official companies just give us. Well Liberty Chica and Shamrock Freddys. My stores literally only have those 😓

As a FNAF fan I don't like to fully support bootleg merchandise, but, if I'm honest, I love Springbonnie and the only one that can offer me that is VNKTL or the other bootleg brand, and unfortunately here in my country (Mexico) it is Much more difficult to find official merchandise in physical stores, and even more so when I don't live in the capital, in addition, Funko only offers recolors and boring merchandise based on FNaF AR, and YouTooz for example has excellent merchandise but VERY expensive for me
Yeah I do need one. My issue is I don’t wanna end up spending like $60 or whatever on a mic and find out I don’t like how it sounds. My audio did used to sound better, but since I moved and don’t have plushies everywhere, the audio isn’t as good. I’ll see how it is after I get all my stuff and then see if I’ll buy one or not

In my mind, Funko makes garbage plushies these days and they're a billion dollar company that can easily make a good product, but no, lazy Funko. While these people are making excellent plushies and they're a smaller business. As some Americans say, we should help out the lil guy. Sure it ma not be legal but what if they do get the rights? This and vnkvtl have been making good bootlegs FNAF plushies for awhile now and like nobody really cared that much about them till Xsmart were making the withereds and stuff. Now I have Xsmart’s Shadow Bonnie plush and it’s very well made. Personally, I just think both companies should make stuff that funko hasn’t made yet and not make stuff that already exist.
Fnaf PlushTubes are helping them make these in and the most of them are printing so I don’t think it’s really a workshop and it’s like there were a lot of time and effort into these and Funko doesn’t really look like they care like some plushy still look good but it looks like they gave up making them like good and putting effort into it so why they’re so expensive is because it’s most likely limited

The way I see it, if Funko refuses to make these plushies or restock old design, they aren't loosing out on money. I don't see how it benefits the ip if I buy a fake spring bonnie instead of paying a reseller like $120. If they made official ones, I'd get those too but I am super stocked by my withered set and spring bonnie I got from them, theyre much higher quality than the funko plushies I have. If anything, I hope they either get licensed or it forces Funko to improve.

I would always tell myself to never buy bootleg FNAF merch because it looks funny and goofy. But then would come in terrible condition and would have terrible quality material. But for these I would just buy them because Funko would never make a whole withered merch wave even though they've made a withered bonnie mystery mini and include withered freddy in product packaging.

The topic is very mixed for me. I feel like at some point the products kind of get to a realm of quality that makes them more so third party than bootleg. These companies (XSmart and VNK) are to FNAF what companies like Demoniacal Fit and Kong Studios are to Dragon Ball; Third Party Companies that push out products for fandoms that the official license holders don't. I also feel like these are kind of in the same realm of buying custom plushies or commissioning them. Another thing is that Hex and Youtooz, while they have excellent quality, are expensive as hell, (If you want all four of the withereds from Hex you'll probably be paying over $200) and don't fit into the style of the rest of FNAF Plush Lines. Maybe a solution to the issues presented with the bootleggers would be too actually give them the license?

I wouldn't call them bootlegs as the intent MAY not be to copy funko as much as it might be to upgrade their plushies, so "unofficial" is in my opinion more fitting in this specific case; also most of the plushies that funko makes are completly dog shit so if there is an alternative that is much better - I'm taking it and I don't care weather it's official or not, it should be Funkos job to create a good product(they don't) so I will buy somewhere else.

Funko's plushies, with time, have progressively gone more and more downhill. My only issue with these plushies is that they arent official, and if they were allowed by Cawthon, the creator, they would be perfectly fine. But, at the sams time, why would Amazon allow unliscensed merch on their website?

OK, I agree with you on the exact copy plushies, such as Frostbear and Spring Bonnie. I don't disagree with that. Those are definitely bootlegs because they copy an existing product.
But in regards to the other ones, what makes them a bootleg, and not a fan-made fnaf inspired plush? From what I've seen and heard - Xsmart global are aiming to move away from these 'bootlegs' and just become a fan-made-plush company instead.
There are 100's of sellers on Etsy, kofi, Mercari, twitter, etc - who all do this same thing? Make plushies of popular fnaf characters? There are countless who make plushies in the 'Funko' style. Many even make their prototypes and send them off to factories to produce multiple of the final product, just the same as Xsmart. Many of these also have their own websites.
I'd be curious to hear your take on this, would be great to have a discussion about it some time :)

They make the prototypes by hand, then have the final product mass produced by a company - as its cheaper and more efficient. The only difference here is that those plushies aren't in the typical 'fnaf' style, which is something Funko, Sanshee & GoodStuff all took from the games. It's not something they made up originally.
Would you give those kinds of plushies the same sort of treatment? Saying they're 'illegal'? They are - by your definitions - using characters they do not own, mass producing the plushies, and selling them online. Just because they're smaller sellers and often artists and creatives, do they get a special pass that Xsmart don't? Or is it more so just a case of Xsmart being the talked-about one off that's popular right now, that's leading to this discussion?
Again - not trying to have an argument, just a discussion, as clearly we have different opinions on the matter, and that's okay :)

Or - if you're going to do the same character, at least do it different. Make a Funtime Freddy plush that actually looks like Funtime Freddy, not... Whatever it was Funko were trying to do.
Like the Sun & Moon plushies (which were made before funko, but are distinctly different anyway and would not cause confusion with the real ones, and Xsmart's own take)
My main question however is why people see Xsmart differently from any other fan-based creator or company selling their own fnaf inspired or fnaf themed plushies? To be fair these bootleg companies are doing a better job of making merch of characters that people been wanting from funko to make for years. It's been almost 10 years since funkos been making fnaf merch and they still haven't made the withereds till now with new mystery minis and withered bonnie having a funko pop and mini. I'm glad funko is losing the fnaf license to jazwears so that jazwears can make better merch than funko.

the trademark ones come from sweatshops as well so buying merch is supporting the dystopian consumerist system in general, so while I avoid palm oil & animal tested products I will occasionally get both trademark & bootleg plushies
As someone who's been a Transformers fan for years, I would call these "third party" not bootlegs. To me, bootleg implies low quality, these are seemingly official level quality and remind me heavily of companies like Mastermind Creations. MMC made Transformers figures based mainly on comic versions that never got real toys, especially IDW's comics characters like Nova Prime, Tarn (Tarn finally did), and The DJD. And they were very high quality for being "Chinese bootleg Transformers" even now their version of Tarn called Kultur sells for around $200 brand new, these feel like the FNaF version of MMC more than knockoffs, which by licensing standards it is "illegal", however I feel if Funko and Youtooz isn't gonna make certain characters like Lolbit, why not. I think it's wrong to make the ones that Funko and Youtooz already make, but characters like the Withereds, Lolbit, etc are free game for third party companies, but that's just my two cents.

Here's my views with bootlegs. I get bootlegs of existing merch that is no longer available constantly to customize.
I could get take a rare figure that's never going to get a reprint thats worth a crazy amount and mod the heck out of it or I can buy a bootleg thats priced for a couple bucks and make customs with that.
A lot of Fnaf funko figures now are crazy expensive and some are super hard to find while the bootlegs are cheap.
I want to make the Blob and Official Baby & Funtime Freddy are crazy expensive and super rare. Which I could buy off ebay and destroy for a custom but even by buying off Ebay. Im no longer supporting the company since they are no longer being made by Funko anyways. I can leave the official ones alone for fans to buy for their collections and i can buy cheap full sets of Bootleg Figures for my customs.
Bootleggers unfortunately are giving us the reprints and custom figures we've wanted meanwhile all the official companies just give us. Well Liberty Chica and Shamrock Freddys. My stores literally only have those 😓

As a FNAF fan I don't like to fully support bootleg merchandise, but, if I'm honest, I love Springbonnie and the only one that can offer me that is VNKTL or the other bootleg brand, and unfortunately here in my country (Mexico) it is Much more difficult to find official merchandise in physical stores, and even more so when I don't live in the capital, in addition, Funko only offers recolors and boring merchandise based on FNaF AR, and YouTooz for example has excellent merchandise but VERY expensive for me

In my mind, Funko makes garbage plushies these days and they're a billion dollar company that can easily make a good product, but no, lazy Funko. While these people are making excellent plushies and they're a smaller business. As some Americans say, we should help out the lil guy. Sure it ma not be legal but what if they do get the rights? I'm not saying that will happen, ever, but what happens then. I, personally, would like making plushies myself rather than buying them because that will probably be super fun, I think.
I know about the new Moondrop and Sunrise plushies, yes I call them by their old fan names, but still most of it is pretty bad. As for YouTuz, I just don't like them. Does eyes are just wrong. And Hex plushies are a bit weird, but their gimmick is brilliant.

I'm pretty late to this topic but Kane Carter going on a tangent that the third party plushies might not be ethically produced is so rich considering Funko plushies are (or shall I say were RIP that license) also manufactured in China and Vietnam and can you say with absolute certainty that Funko's official plushies, including the Funko Popgoes and Blake, were made with fair labor overseas?

I’m a bit confused on what’s going on, I like funko’s plushies because most of them are awesome looking and don’t go for 50$ like hex. I mean hex is awesome, Funko is a multi millionaire , and still makes recolors, makes AR plushies instead of plushies we should actually get. Yenndo possibly, or even any Withered plush would be good.

Plus Funko is the one who makes the merch but not the only one in this case because Youtooz, Hex, And Other Brands Have Permission too the fnaf merchandise license.
