    The most brilliant line in this whole thing is "Y'all dumb mf-ers want a key change?" and I rarely hear reactors mention it. It's kinda subtle and slides under the radar. But the key change as a means of ramping up emotional response is one of THE OLDEST acts of musical manipulation. Used across nearly all genres. For me, that one line just MAKES this entire song.

    I think the part where he says "I could sing in Mandarin, you'd still know i'm panderin" is trying to say that the words said in the song don't matter. That he could sing in a different language and it wouldn't change anything.

    He does make a good point that some country artists sing about things they’ve never done, much like you made the point that some private school kids rap about being gangster having never lived that life. For perspective, and it’s not necessarily pandering, but in the heavy metal community, a lot of the artists are nerds. They like Lord of the Rings and D&D. But they usually don’t hide it. But it is a hilarious comparison.

    The bit about speaking Mandarin is because he's saying that this kind of song is so transparently dishonest that even if it was in a different language you didn't understand you'd still notice how much it's pandering to its audience, he just went with Mandarin instead of another language because it rhymes.

    The way I take the "Mandarin" line is these are very educated people. Not just a public education, but privately tutored for future success. Public schools mostly teach Spanish and MAYBE another European language like French. Mandarin and other languages like that are taught to people who are not considered "salt of the Earth." So just another way these country stars are not like the people they pander to.

    • @LongandWeirdName

      Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Joseph. And a good rhyme is just a good rhyme. Also, no. They don't get taught Mandarin. Nor do they want to be. As long as they're stateside, they don't need it.

      You think salespeople and other office workers in multinationals don't get paid more for being able to speak another language? That being able to speak the language of a country that has become economically competitive with the US doesn't have its advantages? That rich people don't raise their children to be in better positions to succeed? Or even for the bragging rights that their children are learning a language that has a reputation for being difficult to learn?

    • @LongandWeirdName
      @LongandWeirdName 2 года назад

      @@josephhoward9631 Since when are stadium "country" "stars" sales people and other office workers in multinationals? Also, it's still a much better bet to learn Spanish or Russian. China is a pretty big market, but with the CCP in power, not a very trustworthy one. One wrong move on either side of the political issue and the market will be flooded with regulations that screw you over. The Spanish speaking market(all of South America, plus Spain) or the Russian speaking market(Any country East of Poland, North of India, and Not SEA) are a safer bet, if you ask me. I might be biased against the commies, though.

      @@josephhoward9631 You're defending a lost cause. Mandarin is just one if the many rhymes for pandering he uses in the song. Nothing more. Land you're in, mandolin, Mandarin, gerrymandering... Heck. If I'd get stuck on anything, it'd be that last one, not a language.
      All he's saying in that line is "I could speak in a language you don't understand, you'd still be able to see that I'm sucking up to you with the right use of words so I can get your hard earned cash without putting much effort into it myself".

    In the US, there are some restrictions on Gerrymandering, such as it being unconstitutional to draw the electoral maps based on racial lines, but it is not really banned.
    However, if you wait for a court to decide that the district lines were drawn illigally, the ruling will be finalized far too late, after the election has already happened, making the whole thing pointless.
    Honestly, the international community should declare countries that utilize the first past the post voting systems as corporate dictatorships, just to apply some pressure to abolish this sorts thing.

I've always had a problem with Bob Dylan, for example, because he was a suburban kid from Minnesota trying to sound like an Oklahoma dustbowl farmer out of admiration for Woody Guthrie. Guthrie was 100% genuine. Dylan was a pale imitation.
