Wow that brings back memories. 1st ex in Gagetown driving thru the Mckinney defile, looking out the episcopes with glee that I was not infantry slogging through the bush. Lots of familiar faces and at 19:15 I think that is Tommy Thunder aka Lt Newton. Met him again in 2005 on range 16 in Wx and he was a Colonel I think. Good times.

I was with "C" sqn when it was first formed as 'B" 8 CH. I was posted in from the Strathconas back in October 1978. I recognize Jake "The snake" Douthwaite commanding one of those call signs. That sure brings back memories.. The PZB 200 does not have that modified protective cage for the TI sight. I'm guessing parts of this video was taken 1979-1980?

I wonder how different things would have been if they would have just waited a little bit longer and bought the leopard 2 in 1982.
I think when the Soviets came out with their composite armour in the early seventies they were specifically thinking about the 105 gun.
I think it was game over for this gun after that.
But this is a freaking cool piece of historical video thank you for sharing.

It's interesting look at this late cold war era video. I assume this is from the 1980's.

I would say mid to late 80's. There is a mixture of personal weapons, SMG and FNC1 in some footage, C7 and C8 in others. I was issued an SMG in 86, but it was replaced by the C8 about a year later. Also, some footage was of C Sqn RCD in Gagetown NB, while some was of the 8CH in Germany. Lots of familiar faces...it was a great time to be a young soldier.

I was released in Dec1980, I’m guessing after I released. I do see Chris Galonniger commanding the squadron. He was RSS as a captain when I joined up with the Sherbrooke Hussars in the fall of ‘81. I’m guessing he would have taken command after major Berge. So maybe produced in ‘84? At that time, I was a gunner for 31 A cc was wo peter vaniderstein.

How old is this video?? Based on the uniforms and personal kit, my guest is 30 - 40 years. Its just a little dated.

there are so many now irelevant arguments about when the tanks should have been bought. the fact is Canada is always to late, to little, to slim when it comes to buying power. in an actual argument about what armour looks like its not the RCD or the 12 RBC just a fact.

the only remaining option is the LdSH (RC) which is in fact Canadas' only tank regiment. They are to remain as the only heavy Regiment in whatever faction you call them.

No you are wrong. This would have been 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group. Look up the Orbat circa 1985. It was a very capable unit. Also look up what most other NATO members were using in the early 80's. Most used exactly what we used, with some exceptions.
You must be a Canadian to think like this.
