Thanks for taking us inside the Ft Madison station, I watch it on railfans cam & it was cool to see the original waiting rooms from back in the day. Taking a rail excursion is on my bucket list, nice view from your seats.
Dallas City, IL is named for former Philadelphia major and 11th Vice President of the United States of America, from 1845 to 1849. - This stretch of old Santa Fe mainline (Galesburg to Ft. Madison) was built for 110 mph, and the SantaFe passenger trains reached that speed. 06:20 Niota (Nye-Oh-Tah), I grew up 35 miles to Southeast. My first passenger train ride (May 1963) was from Ft.Madison to Wichita, KS.
It's truly a shame that nobody makes anything like the old Olympian Hiawatha Full Length Dome cars. Looking out of a side window is OK, but to be able to see ahead and in ALL directions adds 100% more enjoyment to rail travel! Nice video and cute Amish girl!😋👍
Thanks for posting. My grandfather was conductor on the Santa Fe from KC to Newton. One minor correction: Ft. Madison is crew change for engineer only. Conductors go CUS-KC.
@@russellsharptrainvideos I was there 7 nights a week. Because I didn't want to leave people alone at the Station it's not in city limits. I'd sometimes bootleg as a cab.All Amtrak paid me $510.00 a month. So I can understand how good it would have been if I could have been in the RR union.
Only one way tolls, at least since we crossed the bridge in the summer of 2023. From Illinois to Iowa is free, from Iowa to Illinois is @ 2$. La Plata is pronounced "La Plate ah".
Steve, would have been better if I was a sleeping car passenger. In the dining car, fresh chef prepared meals, fresh roses 🌹 on every table, real linen tablecloths, real silverware and included in ticket 🎫 price. As a coach passenger, dinner in the dining car would have been $40. I had meals from the Superliner Sightseer lounge car Cafe, such as Asian noodle bowl, cups of noodles, Greek salad, streusel coffee cake, bagels and cream cheese and so on. The price was right and food was adequate.
I am thinking about taking the eastbound train to Chicago from LA is it still a great train to ride what are your thoughts I plan on getting a sleeper for me and my 88 year old mother. When I went to the Fullerton train station last night to see it go by they said the train was canceled for the day. I’m wondering how often that happens and this is an important trip and cannot have a delay as getting an airplane flight when the train is canceled will be very expensive on the day of. Any thoughts?
Larry, the Amtrak train from LA to Chicago was canceled because of a problem with the Amtrak Positive Train Control server. And my train from Chicago to Philadelphia was also canceled due to the same problem. This was the first time I’ve ever heard of this type of problem, so no need to worry about a cancellation. Russ
Better to fly. Get her a wheelchair. Tip the attendants. I had my daughter who is 24 help her. Flew from Ontario to Birmingham on Southwest. They usually stop in Vegas or Dallas.

I live in nearby Nauvoo, IL. Have boarded Amtrak here a few times.
Great 👍!

Nice job.
Michael, thanks 😊! Russ
I was caretaker at Fulton Kentucky Amtrak Station. A Trailer. In the winter time 58 and 59 could be 12 hours or later to arrive at Station.
Michael, that doesn’t surprise me.
