Absolutely. It is all to appease the uneducated masses, who they know are incapable of thinking about the practicalities of such empty and populist rubbish, to win their votes and hence the keys to the country. It is mindboggling how people are thinking of all these stupid policies, without rectifying the most prominant, fundamental and basic of all things; the deliberate wasteful, unsustainable and ineffective use of money. Totally mindboggling! If the ANC wasn't just concerned with LOOKING progressive and actually bothered to use the taxes they steal from us correctly, and to discuss and solve the many problems we face, we'd be a first world nation by now.
I am so torn about this. I had a chest infection and went to the doctor on a Wednesday, it was dual purpose as my chronic meds required refill. I got the script and was told to go to the attached clinic to get nebulized as my chest was very tight. I sat for about 15 mins on the neb machine and then the doc produced another script for neb meds and I was told to come back in 5 days for a lung function test. The charges for all at this point, excluding the meds for the infection, was R1950. The neb meds were over R1200 and the medical aid only paid R320!! I went back in 5 days, had a lung function test and the doc saw me for less than 60 seconds, saying all is good. For that day I was charged R380 for the lung function test, R525 for a consultation and R295 for "miscellaneous". In total it was over R3000 and I was only able to recover R850 from the medical aid. This was only the second time in the whole of 2023 that I saw a doctor. Somewhere, somehow there should be a lot more protection and fair pricing in the whole medical aid funds/insurances needs overhaul.
Government could rather take the huge sum of money availed for NHI and BETTER the public hospitals which are in shambles. Many clinics are left to disentigrade, some are completely new and never used, so sad. Upgrade public hospitals so many more people can be helped.
