El Salvador's crime is centered in the really bad sections of San Salvador. Overall, the country is safe. I'm a 6'1" tall white guy and we went to every single corner of the country over a few weeks and it was wonderful. Never once felt unsafe.
South African here. If you are vigilant and do not go to obviously dangerous places, you will be just fine. Surfing in and around Cape Town and the Garden route is generally a super safe experience. In Cape Town, crime is high and concentrated in the township and gang infiltrated areas. Break-ins and theft is very common in the suburbs on standalone properties. Tips: - Stay off the highways at night - avoid the R300 and N2 specifically. - Don't hike alone on Table Mountain. - Don't leave stuff in your car.
Thought you explained a balanced input about Cape Town/South Africa. I'm from Cape Town. Regarding the driving, I'd personally say that's more in Joburg where carjackings is a bigger thing. In Cape Town, I'm still paying attention when I'm driving at night, if I'm at a traffic light in the middle of the city on a quiet street ill be keeping an eye who is around me. Walking at night is where there can be bigger issues.
I spent a month in South Africa and I had no problems in any of the surf towns from Durban to the cape. I did avoid the N2 between Durban and j bay went the long way around. The locals told me it was a very dangerous stretch of the highway along the coast. I loved South Africa! One of my favorite trips
The highway is more dangerous in terms of bad drivers than crime related danger. I've been traveling that route for more than 30 years. Perhaps the closer you get to Durban the more dangerous it can be crime wise in the evenings.
San Francisco Ocean Beach is pretty dangerous. Part of it is the current and the break which can be rough, the other is a high chance that your car gets broken in.
Ive been in Nazaré several times during huge swells, and honestly as a "Lover" for big Waves some of the waves ive seen there really Scared me...really. The sheer size, speed and volume of water that you have to endure if you wipe out on one of those "Monsters",Death is a very real possibility if you are not physicaly and Mentality prepared...and always have a very good guy on the ski, because you dont want to be under for more than one wave. And one thing that i nottest a couple of times was that those floatation devices ( CO2 cans and special vests) can make you life a real and true Misery if you take 2 or 3 huge white wash full cicles... Its was really a very bad feeling just to watch those guys literally "fighting" for their lives. That place(Nazaré) its Beautiful but can be your worst Nightmare.
nice vids, having surfed since 1964, and all over the world(moved to El Salvador 1994, most consistent warm waters waves on this particular little planet and my last secret spot somewhat north an east of here) Cape Hatteras first time 1970, asking all i know where is the closest you have come to dyeing? all say, Cape Hatteras Saludos
i live in cape town south africa, can honestly say that as long as you stick to the beaches that are known for their top class waves, its safe. its the sketchy townships (slums) that are rough. but its gorgoues and we have some of the best breaks in the world for any tier of surfer. localism is a thing but be respectful and patient, you will get your waves. definitely worth a visit!
Always great content me personally I avoid the nightlife at any destination and also always try to make friends with the locals even at the hostels talk to as many as possible and if someone is over anxious to help I avoid them and always check recent travel alerts before booking your trip Keep em coming my friend Dan the man Be well 👍🤙
Mexico being dangerous must be a west coast thing because I have never felt unsafe on the east coast. I have dealt with more threatening people and violence in canada ffs lol
my dad told me when he went to south africa he went to j bay and one night he drove home with his friend to their hotel and on their way home they had a flat tire which was caused by the africans so the africans stop them and said do u need help and my father and his friend said yes please and then the africans tried steal their valuebles and luckily a police was their and the police asked the africans something in africaans language so my dad and his friends didnt understand and ten the police smashed a piece of wood in the africans head and then the police gave a word to my dad and his friends he said dont drive at night its not safe so my father and his friends rode the police car to their hotel the end.
Mexico is fallling to bits and over priced, also food poisoning is rampant. It’s really hot you feel exhausted in Mexico. You need to be really well prepared to get waves. South Africa is awesome for surfing and is cheap. You can relax and not feel exhausted. Cape Town is dangerous I got robbed and kidnapped there. Don’t let your guard down. El Salvador I felt safe but it has terrible vibes.
@@DanHarmon123I have a Brazilian friend. He broke 3 boards within a year here. Now he won't go out on the reef if it's above 5-6 ft. 🤷 Also he won't surf it at dead low tide. His friend visited recently but it was small the whole time, not more than 3 ft. 😔 They can surf good no question. Idk if it is as bad as O'ahu/pipeline in the water dangerous in Brazil? If you know people you are usually fine visiting places. I have a few Brazilian friends and Argentinan. While South America is sketchy idk if it compares to throwing yourself into a pit at 10-12 ft shipsterns or the right?
Interesting to note that only 1 shark attack has occurred on the west coast of South Africa, there are sharks there but they very rarely come near the coast, having personally surfed there, it's super sketchy but at least there are no sharks!
not true, there have been multiple shark attacks around cape town and up north (up the west coast)for example, i know of 3 attacks at one beach. fish hoek beach, in cape town.
@@jamesanderson434 yea i know i said fish hoek is part of cape town, its a suburb of cpt, im not sure abt further north up the west coast but im pretty sure he said in the cape? i cant completely rmbr but correct me if im wrong
How about Australia ? Sharks, bluebottles, localism, and a high chance to get punched in the face at a bar

Haha yeah to be fair... all of those things can happen in Australia!!
I see loads of cars being stolen or broken into in Australia

Just been bodyboarding in KZN at Alkantstrand. All was good. Just a shame that the water is like an open sewer near Durban due to recent floods etc.
San Francisco Ocean Beach is pretty dangerous. Part of it is the current and the break which can be rough, the other is a high chance that your car gets broken in.
What about Nicaragua ? Dangerous, rough surf, sketchy locals?
