wow, they actually got footage of Chris in the process of taking off his shirt. I always just thought his skin melted away the fabric and next thing you know, he's shirtless.
Perfect male physique and a face to match? Add in the fact that he's an amazingly talented singer and songwriter, and you my friends have Chris Cornell.
This is where my quest to find more old school funk intersects with my quest to get as familiar with Soundgarden's music as I am with Nirvana's, Alice in Chains, and John Frusciante (not grunge but I must find and listen to every thing he's ever done). The original Fopp was fun and funky as hell, and the studio version SG did of this not only did it justice but it incorporated their sound in a way that sounds pretty rad and brings the heaviness.
@@slimjimmyification oh yeah this version ain't that great lol. But it's all on Cornell here, not sure if the quality is hurting or helping him here haha. The studio version is legit though
Hiro went on to form the band Truly. They weren't really that bad either. I'm not sure why he left Soundgarden--some disagreement I guess. Tho Hiro wrote and co-wrote a lot of the early tunes we love and I just found this tidbit on wikipedia: The lyrics of the Soundgarden song "I Awake" were originally part of a note by Yamamoto's then-girlfriend Kate McDonald. I always sort of wondered about the lyrics of that song too LoL.
It's interesting .. .if I walked in on this gig and I didn't know these guys I think I would hate the vocals. It could just be the levels on this recording.
vironfletcher Correct. About the same time Hiro left SG, rumours about Mudhoney's demise were rampant in Seattle due to Steve Turner reportedly going back to school.
Chris' vocal style clearly different here. He hadn't yet developed what we all know now as the "grunge" style of singing. Bet Hiro regrets leaving SG now!
When Ben Shepherd stepped in, Soundgarden's music took a turn for better and songwriting as well became diverse along with more experimental instrumentation. Tune in to "Head Down" which was largely written by bassist Ben Shepherd.
seemingly this is a band that has worked very hard to become famous unlike these fucking bullshit 13 year olds that hit a lucky fucking lottery ticket and become huge in a day, seriously as terrible as this performance might seem listen to the studio version and wonder how else you expect to express sheer ahead of its time brilliancy? this shit is genius man fuck.
Cornell should have known he couldn't hit the high notes that song's original version has. There's a difference between liking a certain kind of music and being able to actually perform that music.
wow, they actually got footage of Chris in the process of taking off his shirt. I always just thought his skin melted away the fabric and next thing you know, he's shirtless.
lol
😂👌🏼
Nice ear
he never had a shirt again after this!
Love This song and especially with Chris doing it and just knocks me out ❤️

Agreed, Kim Thayil's guitar work here really makes this song!

Perfect male physique and a face to match? Add in the fact that he's an amazingly talented singer and songwriter, and you my friends have Chris Cornell.

Don't forget outstanding vocal range, electrifying front man and most gorgeous hair
2020 still FOPPing!!

This is actually pretty funny. Not their best.

Well said.
A less raspy voiced Chris Cornell. I dig it!
the way of playing of hiro is so classic .remind me the funky bassist of the 80's...:)
The stage was too small for such a great band!
Nice! Guys showing love for the legendary funk band The Ohio Players!
fuck Hiro was a god, and his work on truly albums is fuckin epic
glad to see one of the legend, hiro yamamoto as the bassist
Respect to the Ohio Players. Also props to Chris who tried to Fopp
This is the chris I remember. I loved this EP.
Ah! YES! Someone noticed the thrusting! 1:34 LOL! HOOOOOOOOT!!!!
Much respect to the Ohio Players. Damn! Cool cover
It's an awesome classic where you see this and try to link it to one of the best singers and songwriters of all times in his early stage. Awesome!!!
Esto es una reliquia audiovisual
I remember the first time I heard Fopp by Soundgarden. Good times! Chris was a rock God!
Still the classic SG roster
i like how his shorts r really tight :)
Still foppin' and rockin' out to this in 2021 ❤️
He moves like Robert Plant 🤣
Even kinda looks like him
THIS IS AN OHIO PLAYERS TUNE YA'LL!
Wow, that's a very young Chris. And I love this song!
Awesooomeeee! Love Kim's playin'
Thanks so much for posting!
Not too much footage available with Yamamoto on bass. This is pretty cool.

soundgarden é foda!!!
This cracks me up.

Matt doing some nice backing vocals.
Look at Hiro Yamamoto!
one of my favorite of soundgarden's songs (including the Fucked up heavy dub remix)
props to the dude just jammin in the front row
That vocal range is no joke
I waited 20(!) freakin' years for that Shizzle.
IT was SO worth the wait! Thanks 4 putting that up!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Fuck yeah!!!! Chris Cornell!!!
aaaaahhhhhh!unbelievable! FOPPP!!!! these were Soundgarden at the beginning!
I like Kim's Green River tee

0:07' God have mercy..😮💜
I'm happy I'm not the only one who gets a laugh out of this song!
heh! nice :) funky led zep. why did hiro yamomoto quit soundgarden by the way? cool guy...
i like this song , is great
you know this vid is from way back when hiro's in it
I heard that Green River was a great Seattle band. Since somebody mentioned Kim wearing that shirt.
i always thought that chris got up to the stage without the shirt
Where did all the shirtless rockers go?
HIRO!
WHAT A VOICE !
the led zeppelin of the 90's
@bigjdawg1 I don't remember that painted backdrop at the Central. Did you see them open for The Wipers?
Respect fo OH. Deserved
Is it just me or does chris sound little like mick jagger?
tmekt no
i heard he was studying philosophy with kim and hiro decided to go on studying, that's what i konw
vironfletcher
Correct. About the same time Hiro left SG, rumours about Mudhoney's demise were rampant in Seattle due to Steve Turner reportedly going back to school.
ROCK `N ROLL
2022.
hahahaha wow... this is great.. so.. I think Thayil wears a Greenriver's t-shirt, ain't he? just pure beginnings!!!
@Snake8778 It was a joke, I'm well aware about Hiro
Chris' vocal style clearly different here. He hadn't yet developed what we all know now as the "grunge" style of singing. Bet Hiro regrets leaving SG now!
sg would not have been what they became if hiro stayed in the band imo..
When Ben Shepherd stepped in, Soundgarden's music took a turn for better and songwriting as well became diverse along with more experimental instrumentation. Tune in to "Head Down" which was largely written by bassist Ben Shepherd.
No. It's the way he sings this particular song. It's a cover. He's singing it like the original singer sings it.
@@fattbitchell they would have been better.
@@clintonjosephcAMIELj I couldn't disagree more.
And Faith No More doing an excellent Red Hot Chili Peppers...

Well done,this is a surprise,can't touch the Ohio's but interesting anyway.Cheers
fuckin unique, I'd protect you in the shower if we were in prison dear uploader
The thrust starts at 1:34.....ur welcome
Who's on bass?
cursedswordsman Hiro Yamamoto
Ohio Players!! 🎸🥁🎙🎶
Where was this recorded?
@coslip grunge band mate.
Where was this shot?
Is that bass player Yamamoto? It doesn't seem to be him. If it's not, who's that?
isoroku Yamamoto!!!😀
In my pantsssssss
@moimoiac lol, like, for real? I'm going to pick the lesser of two evils and just assume you don't know the significance of this video.
Chris is def Norwegian, not really a debate.
Cornell should have known he couldn't hit the high notes that song's original version has. There's a difference between liking a certain kind of music and being able to actually perform that music.
Chris is very clearly coked up in this video, and I'm not saying that just because he's jumping around.
of course the Ohio's is a better version. but for a Seattle band in 1988 to cover a song like this! only Soundgarden could do it.
vocals are bad and making me cringe here xD
he fortunately got better later in his career'
I think he was just drunk as hell
@@somedaysometimeyes,and the bad quality of recording too
fopp is the worst SG/ Cornell album, by very very far. Nothing like the rest.
Oh my God
