    The Turkish Army has retained a permament military presence in Cyprus since 1960, along with Greece, originally in the form of a garrison, authorised by the Cyprus Constitution of 1960. This is the order of battle of those forces, prior to 1974:
    Gφnyeli Grubu (Gφnyeli Group) * 2 Piyade Bolugu (2nd Infantry Company) * 3 Piyade Bolugu (3rd Infantry Company) * Agir Silah Bolugu (Heavy Weapons Company)
    Ortakoy Grubu (Ortakoy Group) * 1 Piyade Bolugu (1st Infantry Company) * 4 Piyade Bolugu (4th Infantry Company) * Alay Kh. Srv. Bolugu (Regimental HQ Company)
    In July 1974, Turkey invaded the north of Cyprus after a coup by the Cypriot National Guard against the democratically-elected President, Archbishop Makarios III. Turkish forces involved in the 1974 action included: * An airborne (parachute) brigade (Brig.Gen. Everen) * A commando brigade (Brig.Gen. Demirbag) * A Special Strike Force Landing Brigade (Brig.Gen. Tuncer) * The 39th Infantry Division (Maj.Gen. Demirel) * The 28th Infantry Division (Maj.Gen. Polat)
    Since the 16th of August 1974, the Turkish Army has retained occpuational control of the northern 37% of Cyprus.
    [edit] Officers and Unit Structure
    The current commanding officers of the Turkish Army are: * Chief of the Turkish General Staff: General Yaşar Büyükanıt * Commander of the Army: General İlker Başbuğ
    The Cyprus Turkish Forces Command is an independent command from the rest of the Turkish Army, and is equipped with two mechanised infantry divisions, as well as supporting external brigades and regiments.

    Btw, how do you feel to stole everything from Turkey? Baklava, yogurt, pastirma, music, dance, culture etc. etc. You just copy everything from us. Although you don't agree but Turkey is your dad. In fact, Ottoman is your dad. Also, I am sure you are here to copy things from video. Otherwise it doesn't make a sense, if you are bitching here :D

    Don't make me laugh. It took Turkey a week to capture an UNDEFENDED town in Cyprus in the 1974 invasion, and establish a bridgehead experts say should have taken only an hour. On the other hand, Greek General Grivas cleared up the Turkish positions all the way from the South to the North of Cyprus in 4 hours. Now, who is the best and who trained the Isaeli commandos and pilots? GREECE.

    @lol38810 You don't get it. Defending a military unit on the basis that you know nothing about it makes no sense whatsoever.
    The only stuff that the SAS declassify is from years in the past and only then because we have a public which expects to know these things. If in Turkey you're happy to let your military do as it pleases then that's up to you - things are different here.
    But seriously - every country will tell you the SAS are the best - there is no argument. Turkey is not even mentioned.

  • @halfbakedc00kie
    @halfbakedc00kie 14 лет назад

    @lol38810 You've probably seen the Iranian embassy siege, but they couldn't stop that from being recorded (and it was recorded from the outside - you didn't see what happened). Of course the SAS and SBS also keep everything classified. They have more battle experience and better training than the TMB though.
    I'm not trying to offend the Turkish troops here, I don't doubt they're very good, but there is no other special ops force like the SAS.

Turks were positioned so well to defend the ANZAC threat cause their military commanders had grey matter in their head and realized what position would be best for the defence of dardanelles strait.This is part of military history. Hope both Europe and Turkey can work out their differences and co-exist peacefully in the future because I think both need each other to progress, Europe could benefit from rich Turkish resources and labour as well as manpower in willingness to work as they are hardworking people and there are about 6-8 million of them already in Europe and Turkey's military power as well as it's growing economy are also good for Europe and Turkey needs Europe's help in many areas as well. @gregcpu Yeah ok lol, whether u like it or not we have been historically, culturally and geographically part of Europe for more than 6 centuries and only want our right to be in this union nothing else, learn some history and talk realistically or stfu. What bullshit PR, that we have signed new energy deals with Russia which will bring gas and oil into Europe through Turkey or that Turkey is in a geographically important area near the rich oil reserves of Middle East? @gregcpu Also even though the Ottomans lost WWI and collapsed, the Turkish revolutionaries fought off British, French, Greek, Italian forces and defeated them all forming the Republic of Turkey and were unaffected and unprovoked or attacked by Nazi Germany while all Europe fell under their rule. Nazis could have easily invaded Turkey and went through their territory to invade Russia as Turkey was on the way but Hitler chose not to do this why would that be I wonder.

    Yes mate, the SAS are much superior in every way to the moderately good Maroon Berets..they have much, much more experience, have been around for coming up 70 years - being the oldest pure SF unit, have see it all and done it all, created modern counter terrorism and wrote the SF manual - everyone else is to some degree bases on them...it amuses me how some of these people think the maroon berets are anything truely special, just by winning a gay little competition - sooo silly. LOL.

    Most of the people here are very proud when their sons go to army. They wave turkish flags and sout "en büyük asker bizim asker" what means "the greatest soldiers is our soldiers".
    Turkey has a history with many enemy and the turkish people were always outnumber. They know that it is the army whose sacrifice allows them to live as a free democratic nation.
    As a matter of fact the most turkish men are willing to die for their country, their family and friends.
    I hope this helps you :-)

    Here are my thoughts:
    No doubt the Turks have great commandos - most middle eastern countries do. Now I know Turkey is in Asia, but c'mon that whole part of the world has been engaged in wars for literally thousands of years, of course they're going to be good at it!
    Now here's a question I'll throw out there. I noticed it said Turkey has the most populated SPEC OPS division in the world. So if everyone is special, then doesnt that mean nobody is? I dont understand? Please educate me.

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    I am a gentleman and I thought I was being polite...all I am saying is that the Turkish Special Forces are good, but not even close to the best. That is all. The British SAS is the best. P.S. you mentioned the US Delta Force.....they were formed in the 1960's, by Colonel BECKWITH, US Army. They were based on the British SAS (fact) and they are not as good as the British SAS...everything has been based on the SAS model. You are an educated man, but not a military man. Get your facts right!!

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    Have a look at the (utube); "NZSAS first amoung equals." This is a first of its kind, providing a real insight or glimpse into a real world class Special Forces (despite their small size). It details the selection, training and history of this unit in a 18 part series...being very detailed and informative (with current and past members). It highlights them as being a truley top elite unit, definately top 5 in my opinion with the Brit SAS, Brit SBS, Aussie SAS and Israeli SF. Worth a look!!

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    as soldiers, but all I am saying is that; The Maroon berets are not even close to the best in the world...only you people from Turkey (biased) say that...you all get upset with this, but I guess the truth hurts and the real facts of who is best (British Special Air Service) speak for itself. That is all - no real disrespect intended, but I do admit that I have had a little fun getting under peoples skin ;-) Lighten up people lol.

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    ibuyukuran - competions = nothing, experience = everything. Maroon berets have experience, yes, but so does every other SF....but what experience do they have outside of the middle east?? What experience do they have in jungle warfare? Artic warfare?? etc etc...Most of my top 10 listed would eat the maroon berets....the Israelis for example (just them) has much, much more experience - everyone knows that - the British SAS, even more....come on - common sense please!!

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    After that; Finnish/Norwegian, Italian, Turkish, Spanish, Greek, Japanese.
    I would place Turks top 20.
    Others are Chinese, Korean, Indian, Thai, Indonesian (but I don't think that they would have the individual training of Special Forces previously listed.
    Brazilian, Argentinian and Sri Lankan also worth a mention.
    This is my honest list. Many people won't agree - but at least I back up my comments and be objective in my views. Number one is 100% correct though, and

    2. British SBS, (almost as good)

    6. US Delta Force,

    13. Russian SPETZNAZ,
    14. Royal Irish Rangers (Special Forces),
    15. South African/Dutch Special Forces (tied).
    Most of the universally recognised best are on list.

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    Yes - but you can't judge Special Forces by competitions - you can only judge by actual combat....please grasp this point!! SAS do not enter these competitions, and the same goes for a lot of other top Special Forces. The SAS don't have anything to prove and they are committed in actual operations world wide. It is beneath them. Besides, none of the Special Forces that you listed would be in my top 10 - not one. I rest my case. What do these competitions involve anyway????

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    That may be true - but this still doesn't match the likes of the British SAS, Israeli SF, SBS, Delta, Australian and New Zealand SAS, French SF, SEALS, German KSK - they have much wider experience - so much of the techniques that the maroon berets employ can only come from the training model of the likes of the British SAS...They are one dimensional compared...no experts anywhere outside of your part of the world would rank the maroon berets with the British SAS.

What I do have a problem with though is this site claiming that they possess the best Special Forces in the world - because this is definately incorrect...like all Special Forces, they are good - but cannot claim to be even close to the best - they do not have the experience, training, equipment and history of combat in all theatres (jungle, mountain/arctic, waterbourne)...This is a fact - and their previous proud history of warfare in the past can't be used - as it

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    ho ho ho ho - yes - Galipoli is a sacred place to ANZACS - the Turks fought very well and were worthy of much respect - BUT they landed in the wrong place - it was firm resistance and the terrain that beat them ultimately. Besides, BEERSHEEBA and a number of other actions were quite different - with the Turks soundly defeated. (Charge of the light brigade) - Aussie cavalry taking a defended Turkish postion - the last cavalry chage in history!! Also - WHO WON THE WAR?? Not he Turks.

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    I have a very good grasp of history and know that the British SAS are ranked number one SF in the world..this is very extensively documented. No-one can touch them. The only other history that I have made reference to on this site, is Gallipoli, which I never particularised...so what is your point??? At least give me the right of reply n1hckny, and I will more happy to deal with your viewpoint fom there. The Turks have good SF, but not even close the best - and that's a fact!!

  • @Roddo08
    @Roddo08 15 лет назад

    Umm...who won the war mate??? I think it is very silly of you to say such things. As an Australian, Gallipoli is a very special place in our national identity...and we had alot of respect for the Turks..good fighters...BUT IT WAS THE TERRAIN THAT BEAT THE ANZACS, not ultimately the Turks!!! Show some respect!! The Turks are good, but NO WAY are they even close to the best..the silly claims of this naive and biased utube are soooo easy to refute - silly, silly people, u should be embarassed!!

  • @Robert1983USA

    These pilots made some incredible mistakes and they are to blame.
    Please don't give me that wake turbulence bullshit if you don't know anything about it. 4 minutes seperation... RIGHT. That's if you want to land a Cessna 172 behind a 747. Not a 737. Also, wake turbulence is most noticable just above the runway because that's where the most wake turbulence is created. Not at 1000 feet altitude where the Turkish Airlines was falling from the sky.

  • @Robert1983USA
    @Robert1983USA 15 лет назад

    Investigation already proved it was pilot error. Unbelieveable, there were 3 pilots in the cockpit and NONE of them were paying attention. They lost airspeed. They had around 100 seconds to correct this problem, but they didn't. It seems as though they were just not paying attention to anything. Very amateuristic. They crashed a perfectly flying aircraft into the ground because they were unable to maintain airspeed.

  • @Robert1983USA
    @Robert1983USA 15 лет назад

    Bullshit :) You do not know what you are talking about. It was not a 747, it was a 757 in front of them. That is a heavy aircraft. A 737 is medium. Medium after heavy needs 2 minutes seperation. They had had more seperation. Wake turbulence isn't even noticable at the altitude Turkish Airlines started falling from the sky. Also, if a pilot crashes an aircraft because of wake turbulence at that altitude, it must the the worst pilot ever.

After that, Turkish militarty didnt close that division and produced the best and most crual soldiers in thw world. Example, invasion of Cyprus in 1974. They have very similar techniques with usa naval forces but some advanced trainign techniques they use such as mountain and geurialla fight.

    The British Empire was the largest empire ever, do some research.

    You probably do, all I am is in the officer training corps (UK although I am considering transferral to Australia or New Zealand once I am trained). Yes I agree that turkey is stronger than Netherlands and Spain. In my opinion the world ranking is as follows
    1 USA
    2 Russia
    3 UK (very close with France)
    4 France (very close to UK)
    5 turkey (very close to Germany)
    6 Germany (very close with turkey)

    I still don't think this tank will be the best. you have to remember that UK USA France Australia Germany and even Russia are more technologically advanced than turkey. I am not trying to belittle turkey, it is a VERY strong nation I would say 7th in the world (not counting nuclear weapons) which is very impressive. I'm afraid historical empires don't count for that much nowadays, Britain had the greatest empire the world has ever seen and still Russia and America have stronger military than us.

  • @Will_Spence

    I'm not talking about delta-force, to be honest they are, like you say, for show but the SAS is definitely the hardest special forces, only the best can even begin training and these elite often die in training. Only the very strongest can make it into the SAS. The only SAS video that is available is the embassy siege, which certainly isn't "photomodels" and there is some programmes on the training and selection of the NZSAS which shows the ridiculous standards that are enforced.

    Oh, just like turkey stopped Armenia conquering 16% of Azerbaijan? That's a perfect example. Europeans Vs Turkic, the Turkic Azerbaijani army was larger than the Armenian army but they were still thrashed.
    British challenger2 tanks are in the top 3 tanks, but they wouldn't even need to fire a shot in a war Vs turkey. War isn't just a massive line of tanks shooting each other till only 1 side has any left.

  • @Will_Spence
    @Will_Spence 16 лет назад

    Turkey does have a large army, but that means nothing when you don't have air supremacy. The RAF operating from carriers and our territory in Cyprus could bomb roads, bridges, power stations, government building, telecommunications, military bases, hospitals and sewage works. How long would turkey last against this type of attack? Imagine that, but also British ground forces operating a scorched earth war and leading a Kurdish rebellion in the east.

  • @Will_Spence
    @Will_Spence 16 лет назад

    Officially the ANZAC (Australia-New Zealand) SAS are the best in the world, British SAS are probably on par with the ANZACs but most information about to their activities is restricted. Speznatz and French foreign legion are also much more elite than the Turkish Special Forces. You talk about photomodels but have you ever seen SAS in poncey video clips like this one? The whole commando competition is blatantly made up, the whole concept is the antithesis of Special Forces behaviour.

    @Roddo08 Hahahahaha yeah that`s why the British SAS lost in this friendly military exercise and operation. It was a very realistic military exercise and Turkish Maroon Berets came first, deal with it. LOl British Paras, never heard of similarity with Maroon Berets. Lol i already have a life, u should look for one instead.

    Lol this is proven, either in 2004 or 2005 there was a friendly military operation and exercise between American, British, Chinese, French, Turkish, etc and the Turkish Maroon Berets came first. IT IS A PROVEN FACT THAT THE TURKS HAVE THE BEST SPECIAL FORCES COMMANDOS OF THE WORLD SO GIVE IT UP AND GET A LIFE.

    Turkey is not Iraq though, they are very powerful and resourceful with great military training and experience. US will not fuck with Turkey if it knows what's good for it, they need Turkey to control Middle East and as another front other than Europe to counter Russian and growing Chinese power in the east.

    Turkey has ~1mil troops active but in an emergency can raise this to some 20 million thanks to compulsory conscription. This is possible because serving age is 18-40. Wiki lists 38 mil as the maximum number of troops raised by Turkey in an emergency. But realistically it is somewhere near the ~20 mil mark.

    Mmm, perhaps, but the SAS/SBS also have the most genuine combat experiance and one of the best service records of any special forces/anti terrorist unit on the planet. I dont know what this competition involves exactly but you will probably find that your Turkish special forces are modelled after the SAS.

    where did you get this idea ? do you know any thing about turksih special forces and others.. turkish army has more than 20 years guerrilla war experience.. do you know it means and also... in the sepacial forces , all soldiers are voluntary, they don't fight for money like many others armies' 'special forces'..

    Turkish SOF are good, but there is no reason to confuse us by showing the SAS in the first picture, then implying the rest of it is connected. Major O'Toole of the SAS pictured here has nothing to do with Turkish commandos other than some war games in late 90's

    firstly, its obvious that you don't have any idea about Turkey and write mindless.

    Turkish Special Forces are top 20...but not even close to the best....the British SAS, SBS etc etc would own them, humble them, have done many things that the Turks never have and would have much to teach them and directly/indirectly have taught them alot.
