    There are so many different levels to this performance. Yes. of course it's a fan favourite but this also has it's darker side. "Lasha Tumbai" means nothing, Verka alleged it was a Mongolian phrase (unfounded) but as Boško V pointed out in the previous post it has been suggested that this was a workaround of "Russia Goodbye". Listen carefully.... it IS said. My gosh, the Russia v Ukraine battle has been going on for years. Also the character of Verka is not drag as we know it in the west, it's a fantasy character but with no gay inference

      👀 going back to listen for it! Thanks for clarifying about the different notion of drag in this performance!

      >My gosh, the Russia v Ukraine battle has been going on for years.
      they have de facto turned eurovision into their battle ground as both have been consistently sending good and iconic artists trying to beat the other

      And the star on his head may also hint at the stars on the Kremlin towers.

    "Lasha tumbai" means the Sovjet Union fell in 1991, and some people need a casual reminder every now and then. 😉

    Verka claimed at the time that Lasha Tumbai was Mongolian meaning Milkshake. Mongolia confirmed that the words did not exsist in Mongolian. It was later confirmed that it was a nonsense phrase the made up because it sounded like Russia Goodbye, remember this was just a couple of years after the Orange revolution. The outfit he wears is his normal stage costume.

      Officially yes, but it is too close not to be heard that way, the same applies to the Georgia entry in 1999 'I don't wanna put in'

    Fact: at first Andriy Danylko (the real name of the singer) was into standup comedy, where his character Verka was most often a train stewardess. The star on the head appeared after he heard that wearing something reflective or mirror-ish could help reflect the negative energy (before that, the images included other unusual headwear, like berets, flower crowns, etc.)

    LASHA TUMBAI - from kazahstan language or other like that. I saw in Tel-Aviv full concert of the singer. It was very funny and awesome.

      "Dancing Lasha Tumbai" is iconic, but so is "Molitva". For two very different, but equally valid reasons.

      2nd place: A man dressed as a woman. :D
      1st place: A woman dressed as a man. :D
      That's how I remember them. They're both iconic, though. Molitva is still popular in the Balkans.

    There are opinions that "Lasha Tumbai" is actually "Russia Goodbye" when uttered by somebody with a speach impediment. This was a time of Russia Ukraine enmity and as if Verka Serduchka was telling the Russians to get out of Ukraine. Others say this was Ukraine saying it was pro-LGBT. One has to see the iconic Ukraine gay group Kazaky. It would be a great reaction. Just any song would do, but you could do "Love".

    I'm surprised that no one mentioned that Verka Serduchka is a drag queen stage persona of very famous Ukrainian comedian Andriy Danylko.
    And Andriy said that the star on the head weighs about 8 kg and his neck is not happy about holding this monstrosity.

    Lasha tumbai is actually "Russia goodbye" and Verka said it twice in live performance. It's political but still less political than Jamala.

    Verka is a member of Ukrainian parliament. You should check Ukraine 2019. Maruv won for Ukraine, but because she likes to perform in Russia, Ukraine decided to withdraw. In 2020 Ukraine decided not to allow any Ukrainian singer to represent them if they performed in Russia last 15 years! Many believe that Ukraine would win it again with Maruv.

    • @JordanDavisEurovision
      @JordanDavisEurovision  4 года назад +2

      Honestly I love Maruv's entry. I got into Eurovision at the end of 2017 so I had the privilege of being able to see Maruv at Vidbir. I was so excited when the won and conversely so crushed when they withdrew! One of the biggest tragedies of the decade honestly.

    • @olenatopor2616
      @olenatopor2616 2 года назад +2

      Verka is not and never was a member of Ukrainian parliament (neither the Verka charachter nor Andrii who is the actual performer behind Verka's personality)...and Maruv withdrew herself, not Ukraine lol
      All this info can easily be checked, what a huge misinformation....

    • @iaindj
      @iaindj 2 года назад

      @@olenatopor2616 Yes she withdrew because of new rules that she is not allowed to perform in Russia, can't talk to press etc.

    • @olenatopor2616
      @olenatopor2616 2 года назад +2

      @@iaindj and again that is innacurate, this is the translation of the part about banning Maruv's concerts in Russia from her official FB page: "Refusal of concerts in Russia was not a matter of principle for us (such a clause was in the contract - TASS note). The main disagreements were caused by other clauses of the contract, which, if I sign, become enslaving for me"
      And those specific parts of the contract she mentioned later were actually the same for all previous contestants from Ukraine, this was told by those contestants. You should not bealive and repeat everything you hear or see from third parties...
