@@BrokenCDprodux happened with me too. I found it works when you use paint that is a bit viscous(like after it comes out of the tube) and take very little of it at the top part of the brush. Then you press just the top part lightly. I'm just starting out so idk if other do it differently. P.S: ik this is a 5 month old comment I am replying to but thought it might help someone:)

Just use the brush and colours your heart thinks is right. Your tree doesn't need the same size leaves, nor the same colours. Maybe your tree is in the fall, and it has deep shades of red and bright yellows. Mix it up, it all about freedom to make your own amazing tree. Hope this helps. Goodbye.

He HAS to be letting each layer dry before applying the next one, otherwise it would be muddy looking….but how does he keep the paint wet enough to paint with?
I plan on painting a cherry blossom for my mom. She hasn’t seen my work in years, (because I stopped for some reason) but I wasn’t sure how I’d do the flowers. This is gorgeous!

For anyone wondering,
the brush type is a Filbert (flat and rounded tip).
Not sure what size but I tested mine and it gave the same texture
You guys must have magic filbert brushes because all mine does is create big fat amorphous smudges.

Even at the age of 87 too... You will be like that ....I think... just fun

The shade circle of the tree on the ground should be slightly behind (away) from the tree structure.
