Hi Justin! Such a great lessons from you! Could you please let me know how to copy the unit you made in this video and paste it in the same drawing but with different parameters? Can you double the list of parameters and change it? Thank you
i have a question i have created a drawer but if i modify the lenght of it it only modifies the bottom piese it doesnet modify the whole drawer and i dont know what i did wrong
Maan, you are fenomenal. Schools need men like you. I am learning so fast thanks to you, this and every video you made is the Saint Grail for me. Knowledge and skills i am acquiring thanks to you is usefull for 3D printing but the best part is that i can use this anywhere else also !! Thank you very much, wish i could pay you back somehow.
Just found your channel, I am just a humble Fusion beginner, and your videos are a bless! I tried other tutorials but they were quite messy for me. Thanks!!
I use parameters when 3d printing parts to fit other parts, set it up, print the part, then if its too loose or too tight a fit, I can adjust the parameter by the requisite amount and reprint, that way you can leave some measurements as they hshould be and just adjust the ones you need adjusting.
I REALLY like this idea. I'm working on a thing now where I need very small clearance, but I could be setting it too close. I've gone thru multiple itinerations in the past and I don't like it, but this sounds like an awesome solution. Thanks.
Great video Justin, thanks! One quick note, there is also an option in the parameters window to change the "measure unit" from inches to "pieces" or "pcs". If there are any other OCD people out there like me, who get the nervous break-down when one row is without a unit name, then tough luck. YOU CAN NOT set it to pieces, because this messes up the formula. Fusion can't deal with two different types of measures. So indeed, you have to leave it as "no unit", like Justin did here.
It took me a little bit to figure out why you drew the lines at the base. Then figured out you were partitioning the face with parameters. Before it clicked I was a fat kid trying to climb a wall. Then it clicked. :)
Hi there, Wonderful Content, easy to understand even for no-native english, i got the inspiration for re-designing a worktable that was looking to make on PTR, having these i'ts much easier to polish the idea and grab some modifications. keep the good work man! Best Regards.
Hey, Justin! This is a great start to parameters! I'm trying to move to Fusion360 after using SketchUp for years -- one thing I don't understand how to do w/ the parameters is how to have the model also create and adjust the # and placement of the dadoes on the shelf sides that would be needed if the shelves were seated in the dadoes instead of just butt-jointed -- As the parameter for number of shelves changes, the number and placement of dadoes would have to change along with it. Can Fusion360 do this?
I have to build simple boxes quite often, I'll set up a Box with floormaterial, lidmaterial and wallmaterial, padding (for packaging) and desired internal space... IF I also set up a drawing, I can enter the parameters and get a printed cutting list etc. ...sweet...
I think all my projects are based on parameters. Putting icon on the toolbar for easy access was the first setting I've changed. For woodworking (cabinets, tables etc) and 3d printing. All on a amatour level but still, very handy. One tip is to frequently change your parametrs when adding new features as sometimes our base of reference is wrong and the params don't work as expected. It's best to find it right away. Happy parametrizing ;
He brother ! Love the vids but do u have anything that could help me with the fact that I can’t figure out how to turn a drawing of for say a fire pit flat ready to cut file into a 3d image for a customer to see what it would look like when finished as after assembly.
Yes, I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the drawing looking the same - not in a mirror image- it was the Y-Up on the tutorial. Is there a reason to have the Y-Up? I thought Z was always Up?
Hi Justin thanks for another great video I have been drawing some electrical cabinets recently and they are all essentially the same design but the height width and depth changes so this would be a time saver for me.because these are sheet metal items will it update the flat pattern ok?
Hello Justin, just wanted to say these are great video and very informative. May I know what version of Fusion 360 are the tutorial based on? If I am on the free version, will the features taught in this series be available? Thanks in advance!
Could you do a video like this but on a ladder that could be fully adjustable so we could change the height of the ladder and the rungs would change along with the height? So the rungs would increase or decrease at a spacing no less than say 200 mm and no greater that 300mm. This would be very handy
I hope somebody can explain me this. At 8:15, why is the rectangle the whole width, and we're splitting afterwards? Can't you do ShellWidth-ShelThickness*2 right away?
Yes. I would have made the shelf sketch that size to begin with and then use constraints to make sure it stayed at the correct distance (ShelfThickness) from the origin.
Note that I just noticed that some of the features you are using are Paid Features, just as a heads up. I am not sure if these features were once free?
Here's my problem. Say I have a Bookshelf project with 5 components, each one being a Bookshelf with different dimensions. How do I create a parameter NumShelves for each bookshelf that will only affect that component? Right now when I create a parameter it acts globally on all components. But I want a different NumShelves for each component separately. Someone told me to use Model Parameters but I can't see how to do that.
i think it should be enough to name those parameters differently? just guessing but if you name your parameter like NumShelves1 and your Bookshelf1 then you should easily find which one is which. Tell me if i am wrong anyway EDIT: I did it separately, separate patterns in columns so i now have e.g. 2 different shelf pattern in one cabinet
Man, I just changed my number of shelves to 99,999. Then Fusion crashed and I lost my shelf unit. All contributes to the learning process. The glass is half full lol
Hi everyone! Let me know what you're using parameters for in the comments below! :)
I am making a prototype and this will be very useful for quick changes!

Looks like I found my favorite RUclips channel that is Earthling friendly. Clear voice Clear instructions.

Using parameters is always good idea and thats the reason I use parametric programs like Fusion
:)
Love your style man, great learning / re-learning tools
Thanks Justin...great explanation of parameters and how to use them.
Glad it was helpful!
This could be very useful for certain situations. Well done! Thank you!

Tried that but it won't take it if you try to use that parameter for that. When I change it back to No Units, it does work.

So powerful tool! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing this! Really interesting feature in Fusion 360!
Hi Justin, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I've watched some of your Blender content. This stuff is just as awesome!

nice work man !!!!!!!clear and to the point!!!!!! Thank you

bro you are amazing
Whaaaat's Up Justin .. You have your Y axis up .. gave this newbie pause... didn't realize it was changeable ...
Yes, I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the drawing looking the same - not in a mirror image- it was the Y-Up on the tutorial. Is there a reason to have the Y-Up? I thought Z was always Up?
Same! I was also trying to understand what I'd done "wrong"...
Sometimes I don't know it needs to be a parameter until after I have done a dimension can I apply a parameter to a dimension after it has been done ?

What's the difference between the "User Parameters" and "Model Parameters"?
Cool! Thanks a lot :)
interesting for sure

5 star 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I’m using dados for my shelves on the sides of my cabinet can those also be put into parameters?
Should be able to - it's really just another set of measurements in your sketch, so I don't see why you couldn't do it
clever stuff!
