My father came here from Corfu in 1967 when he was 17. He sailed on an oil tanker with the Greek Navy. They docked one night in New Jersey and my dad jumped ship and never looked back. My parents lived in the Queen Anne on Crescent when they first got married and I lived in Astoria when I was first born. We left Queens when i was 4 and moved to the North Shore of Long Island. My Godparents lived here in Astoria. My Aunt and Uncle lived here. I spend most of my childhood and youth here. I miss my dad and I miss those days.

That’s excellent. Thanks for sharing. However you might want to consider doing some research on Greeks in Washinghton Heights in 1950’s.

George Washington knew he was a descendant of early Ελληνικη [ unity in being with victory ] ΑΩ speaking the glosa was voted as too difficult missed by one vote . reference dictionaries has a word ellene a school in athens that taught unity .. Boston is known as little athens because of all the schools

I also have to say Asoria has become to crowded with the new zoning laws it has lost it's uniqueness. It was more of a family neighborhood before. I think they ruined Astoria.
