Corsets aren't actually supposed to be laced up that tight. Their initial reason is to provide support and to make your dresses look nicer. They wouldn't tell you to just "suck in" and take it unless they were trying to belittle you. I have a waist trainer, I thought I could clasp the clasp the hooks tighter than ever before and go smaller. I nearly passed out. I barely got that thing off. Haven't worn it since then. The reason why we have so many records of women fainting since 1800, it's because they literally couldn't breathe.

@@q1s2e3w Sure, that's not what the intended reason was. But that is how they were essentially used in a society where a woman's only job was to get a husband. Women tried to make their waists smaller and smaller until they literally couldn't breathe and fainted all the time. There were numerous papers published in The Lancet Journal at the time detailing the long term effects of wearing a corset that was too small for you. Just like how we see in Dr. Youn's videos how plastic surgery can go too far and harm people, so can any sort of body modification, including corsets.
I was out at a goth club in Seattle I frequented and I became close friends with a man, who liked women but was more comfortable presenting themself as a woman. One night I commented on his REAL corset an I was so impressed by his ability to move and destroy the dance floor in it. Realizing I'd never had an experience with a REAL CORSET he put it on me, so I'd have a new understanding how truly impressive it REALLY WAS. This thing made my waist an unbelievably tiny size. When I just tried to walk over to the the wall with the mirror on it I almost fell over. It messes with balance, perception, and other basic functions you don't think about having suddenly thrown off. He would move around with that kind of restrictions with ease. I almost couldn't even walk across the room. It freaked me out seeing my waist that small. I had an entirely new outlook on what he dealt with to be seen as female as that was how he was perceived. It was actually some 6 months before I even learned he was male originally. He came to the club and was communicating with me in sign language which was something we did and I think he thought I'd realize when this man was speaking to me in sign I'd accept that my girlfriend was actually a man whom apparently also had a crush on me. Man that was crazy. I'm like sorry guy I don't feel that way about you (plus I was really thrown off by finding out the hidden life of my cool "girlfriend" I was in my early 20s and this was new to me. (Were actually still very close and I'm nearly 44 now) He ended up moving to Austin because of his struggles with his identity and frustrations trying to be in the desired relationship. He though he could buy me too. I'm not a shallow gold digger though. I'd rather be poor and happy than in a situation that makes me miserable.

Yes! She has a naturally long face, and her forehead was perfectly proportionate. If you’d asked me what type of work she was looking to get done, I’d never have guessed she was aiming for her forehead. I’m often baffled by the parts folks choose to fixate on.
I’m an archaeologist and art historian with a larger forehead. The strangest compliment I’ve ever been given (by a colleague) was “in the Middle Ages you would be considered absolutely beautiful”. Thanks?
Art history legitimately played a huge part in me finally accepting my face. After all, if all those greek and roman statues and mosaics can look beautiful with noses like mine, why should I not feel beautiful?
You don't hear about Pixie anymore because she had a botched plastic surgery in Turkey that left her brain damaged. She ended up moving back to Finland with her parents were they are taking care of her
That's so sad but not completely surprising. Every surgery has risks but she's gone for some very extreme body modifications that aren't as tried and tested as more common surgeries. A lot of people have been seriously harmed by unethical and/or unlicensed practitioners and it's so hard to do your due diligence when dealing with licensing in a foreign country with a different native language.
I'm surprised the rib removal thing doesn't fall into some unethical area! Imo any plastic surgeon that's ok with going that far isn't one that I'd be comfortable going to!
Corsets were a staple undergarment for centuries that functioned as a bra and support for heavier layers of clothing. You are thinking of the practice of tight lacing, which indeed DID cause damage to the wearer over a long period of time, but a corset itself was a normal garment that women lived their entire lives in. It has a bad reputation nowadays, but it wasn't itself a harmful item.
As far as i know in Germany it's forbidden by law. Your not allowed to remove any part of your body (rips, fingers, organs etc.) if there isn't a medical indication. It's considered unethical. In fact, it's forbidden to do that to animals as well, so you normally won't see dogs without a tail or cut ears or cats without claws. And i really think it is better that way 😅
I agree this fully. Finland has these same laws too. In general, it's very difficult to get that kind of surgery here unless there's a very good and medical reason for it. And neither the social services nor the KELA (people's pension institution) will help at all, because they consider such operations to be something that you have to pay for yourself if you really want one. And I absolute hate with all my heart the people who cut off the tails and ears of dogs just because they have to fit in with the idiotic beauty standards that are still being promoted in some countries and used in cat and dog shows. I also do not approve of the removal of cat's claws, because a cat needs its claws. And I have to say that the person who removes a cat's claws because of materialism is heartless. To put decor and furniture, ahead of pets health and safety is heartless and self-centred materialistic thinking. Don't get a pet, but don't get a child either, if you want to keep the interior and furniture of your home clean and intact. Or did these people also think of removing body parts from children so that they do not cause mess and break things up?
I've had work done and I am happy with my results. I thought about getting more but realized that perfection doesn't exist and my body doesn't deserve to go through multiple rounds of trauma. So at some point people need to be happy with themselves.
I have seen Pixie Fox on different programmes for quite awhile now. I saw her on The Doctors and both Dr. Travis Stork and Dr. Andrew Ordon thought she was going too far with her procedures and that she needed some counselling. They even had Dr. Barry Eppley on the show to question him on why he would do such an operation. When Pixie was on Botched, Dr. Paul Naassif mentioned about your ribs protecting your vital organs. Although Dr. Barry Eppley is a double-board certified plastic surgeon, I would never go to him for a consultation because, I honestly don't think I would get the best advice. I heard that having a high forehead was a sign of intelligence.
As someone with a genetic double chin that is always there no matter how skinny I get, that I have been DYING to get rid of since I was a teenager, I would never use cool sculpting because I don't need to be one of the people that experiences PAH and my neck gets even FATTER.
I have a genetic double chin too & I found out while trying different diets, that eating Low Carb is helping a lot. For me, it`s not all fat in the chin, but also water retention caused by carbs. That water retention is also in my whole neck area. In the past, even when I was thin (wearing Size Small & Extra Small!), I still had a big double chin when eating High Carb. So had the face, chin & neck as if I was overweight. I lost at least half of my double chin through Low Carb...and it worked fast...just a couple of weeks. The only downside when losing so much double chin so fast...the skin gets saggy...it took several months for the skin to slowly tighten again.
My grandmother had an 18” waist naturally and I had a 21” waist before kids at 30. It doesn’t look bad when you’re proportionate everywhere else, we are just very narrow framed.
My great grandmother was 4feet 10 inches and had a 14 inch waist (in the 1890s). She also gave birth to six children, all of whom lived at adulthood. I'm still trying to figure out how she did it.
When I was apprenticing to be a cosmetologist I worked as an assistant and shampooed the other stylist's clients and I had a few women that had thick scars in their hairline from getting facelifts. They were really thick scars too so I always wondered if it meant they got it done multiple times. But I didn't dare ask lol
I had coolsculpting and got PAH. I was NEVER told about the possibility of it happening. I have a feeling it's a lot more than 1% because when I called the number to report, I wasn't taken seriously. I've since been told the only way to get rid of it is lipo, which I didn't want in the first place.
i had a nose job a week ago, its the only plastic surgery i have (due to i broke my nose twice when i was young and didnt even know) and i can not imagine that someone willing to have this pain over and over again.. i get that people can do for once or twice with different body parts if it will make them happy but 4 nose job? 4? auch
The only plastic surgery I want is a breast reduction not only to look better in tops and jackets but also in hopes of relieving at least some of my constant neck pain.
In your case, it was likely a medical reason above cosmetic. I think that plastic surgery is just a tool. Depending on how you use it, it can be good or bad. Good in the case of medical needs or facial reconstruction from trauma. Bad for excessive vanity purposes (This is way beyond one nose job or ONE liposuction. Think extreme changes to their appearance alongside multiple surgeries).

I’ve been dealing with my double chin ever since puberty. I think I have a weak jawline so my double chin is prominent. I unfortunately also have a lot of childhood abuse trauma in which I tried to remedy with emotional eating. A few years back I did the cool sculpting and chin lipo and it was such a mistake because it did nothing 😅 I was desperate but also scared of invasive surgeries (plus I was only in my late 20’s so I didn’t think I needed a neck lift). Recently I’ve been on a weightloss journey (I’m down about 20lbs) and my goal is to lose as much body fat as I can and become healthy before I decide to do anything surgical. I hope when I do decide, I’ll be able to save up to see you because I really like your philosophy. My focus will always be on health over looks and seeing a cosmetic doctor like you talking about that really helps! So thank you!!🙏🏻
Ribs basically protect the lungs and the heart. If you break a rib, it can pierce any of those internal organs, including the liver and the spleen. Would love to code this cosmetic surgery.
When i hear Dr. Eppley, i think of that yt channel, TheLosingFace, where that woman, Lucille claims he stitched her face too tight & she couldn't put her head down naturally or she couldn't breath . Something like that. She even has footage of her esophagus xrays as it's being tested. She sued. They say she had mental issues & she ended herself after yrs of agony. Real or psychological, it's pretty sad.
I sure hope the lady who got ribs removed doesn't get into a car accident, sounds like she could actually get liver or spleen injuries from just the seat belt
Not only a trauma/injury risk, but ribs contain bone marrow that makes your blood cells…what happens when you remove a significant volume of your bone marrow producing capacity?
Ribs are thin and don't contain a massive amount of marrow. The big marrow bones are in the legs. I'd be more concerned about someone who has had a leg amputation or born without legs. Still though, for cosmetic reasons, I wouldn't risk any bone loss other than natural aging.
Side Note: I’ve noticed that throughout human history, women have had to suffer excruciating pain to be accepted and adored by men - I’m not doing all that! If my gym-body, cute face and personality aren’t good enough, then I’ll just stay single and content. 👸🏻
I learned recently that many of those Victorian photographs were retouched just as we retouch photos today, to give the women smaller waists, so those tiny waists probably weren't real in the Victorian days either.
Human beings were much shorter 200-300 years ago. Women where less than 5 foot tall and very much under 100 lbs. People today are fat, fat, fat from all the easy access to JUNK FOOD.
It's baffling why people are SO obsessed by their looks, and to hell with reality. She is young, imagine as she ages, she will have huge problems, ABSOLUTELY 🤪 CRAZY .
If you think about it though, it's not baffling because really, our appearance can define us; it determines how people treat us, it can -- to an extent -- play a role in the trajectory of our lives, and, of course, the dating game boils down to leagues whether we like it or not. This is why I'm able to understand the phenomena of people going to extreme lengths in order to alter themselves. I don't necessarily agree with it or think it's wise most of the time, but I can certainly empathize.
@@Sean-ll5cm its not even just that these extremes are the result of serious mental issues due to pressures to "be perfect" that society puts on both women and men sure looking good can help but this level addiction only results from extremely unrealistic body standards that media will often push. its extremely harmful and unrealistic to expect every man to have a 6 pack and every women to have a super thin waist and massive tit's to be considered "beautiful"
I had to have my first rib removed because it caused blood clots in my arm, thoracic outlet syndrome. We like to joke that I had the wrong rib removed because my goal was to look skinner. I dont recommend having ribs removed unless necessary to save your life. The recovery was long and painful. 4 years later, I still have pain and nerve damage.
TOS sucks especially if you are an athlete that needs use of that arm. I'm so sorry you have this, many women go undiagnosed their whole lives with this issue.
Still surprised that rib removal isn't a strict no no, especially with that many ribs being removed. I don't think you could inhale or exhale as deeply as you could before. Imagine if you get a terrible lung infection and you can't exchange gasses as easily due to how shallow your breaths are.
So, you are incorrect about corsetry historically. While some folks did tight lace for vanity (usually upperclass young ladies) it wasn't common. Your corset was your support garment (like a bra is today) and all women wore them. They weren't boned in steel generally, instead used baleen (whale bone) which is more akin in material to your fingernails and would take on the shape of the wearer with time just from body heat, and some of the support would be cording (which is what it says on the thin, thin stiff bits of cord). The only metal part would be the split busk which functioned as a closure in the front. There were even ones made for more physically demanding jobs that were more flexible that supported the bust still without restricting movement. Additionally they provided support for things like heavy skirts as well. The ONLY reason we view corsets today as some kind of torture device is because of advertisements by BRA COMPANIES.
Well, I wouldn’t agree that the only reason corsets have their reputation today is because of bra companies (see the caricatures and ‘doctor’s illustrations’ of the time), but as undergarments shifted and evolved into today’s bras, there definitely would be incentive for bra companies to talk down about corsets in order to make their products seem like the better, healthier choice. There’s a bunch of other reasons as well, like our tendency as humans to think that modern society is Always Better And More Advanced than our ‘stupid, uneducated’ ancestors.
During the eras where a small waist was in fashion they used a lot of clothing tricks to make the waist /appear/ smaller. Like padding around the hips, or extra skirts, and ruffles or other large swaths near the bust. This is what gave that cinched waist look /without/ needing to have a corset cinched so tightly you couldn’t breathe.
I wear a corset daily, I’m 65 and have had awful back surgery and I’ve also got fibromyalgia and ME. By wearing the corset it gives me the support I need and let’s me cut back on the narcotics I need for pain. Do I get an 18 inch waist lol not a hope, I can almost double it. I wear I firm but not tight.
I hope all of these patients are told how to avoid the sun while their scars heal so they don't end up with very dark and purple scars. For some of us, that will happen regardless but for others it is due to excessive sun exposure and not covering your scar with petroleum jelly (vaseline) and/or wearing sunscreen and a hat when outdoors even for short amounts of time. You'll need to do that for the first year or two of being in the sun with your scar. Use lots of moisturizer as well because you want to keep your skin and scar hydrated. Also, remember to drink water too. I know most of this is told to patients but sometimes it's not. I had a friend who had the same knees surgery as I did but her surgeon failed to tell her not to sunbathe without covering the scar in petroleum jelly so she had these lovely tan legs with a 12 inch purple scar straight down the center. I had laparoscopic surgery and covered my scars in vaseline when I went swimming or hiking with shorts on. My scars faded and hers didn't. Please take precautions.
When wearing a corset there should be a gap of about 3-6 inches in the back of the corset. Many people think the measurement of a corset, such as 28”, is the waist it’s supposed to fit. It would actually fit a waist of 31-34”. Also keep in mind that people were smaller then. The fashion plates were also more representative of young women who hadn’t achieved total growth so had smaller body structure. Think of teenage girls, then think of them at age 23. There’s a difference because they’ve completed growing.
My forehead is also 2.75 inches, similar to Dr Youn's. I just got curious and measured it. I've never thought it looked bad despite it being on the high side.
I can't even handle a belt 😂no, no thank you. I love comfort. I once sewed a very tight top (I was still in high school, and my sewing and designing skills were in its infancy). I'm 52 now, and I've had a reoccurring nightmare about that tight top and how Im struggling to take it off. Im not joking. It truly made me feel so restrained. I had a panick attack removing it! I can't imagine wearing a corset ever! I've had a breast reduction 14 years ago, and I'm happy about it, although it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. BUT There are areas under my breasts that has lost all sensations. It feels dead to the touch and is awfully weird. I tried botox, hated it, hair extensions, hated it. Laser hair removal a few times, wasted my mone(due to PCOS) Ive lost pigmentation due to the treatment under my jaw. I did not skimp on paying for reputable plastic surgeons. Now, I have made peace with myself. I will age gracefully as nature attended it to be. Those who wants to persue plastic surgery go for it. It's just not for me.
i switched form using hair ties to clips and drying my hair after showers and have noticed a huge difference in hair breakage and hair falling out. My forehead grew due to hairline loss from wearing my hair up most of the time. I am glad I tackled this now so it will last longer.
a surgeon with true ethics would refuse any procedure until she saw a counsellor at the root of this there is a reason why she dislikes her image we are all unique and beautiful we weren’t meant to look like barbie it’s sad this woman can’t see how beautiful she really is
I honestly had no idea there was a less invasive way to help a double chin! It's actually the part of me I'm most insecure about but I've heard so many complaints about neck lifts
Her muscles are gonna have to hold her upper body up well - since ribs are removed - can’t imagine how many future back - and hip problems she’ll experience 😮
I think the woman who got the forehead reduction should've taken into consideration that she has a long face and so her original forehead was actually more in proportion with the mid third and lower third of her face. Mamma June using cool sculpting??? You gotta be kidding me. That's a neck lift plus a mid-face lift for sure. There is NO WAY cool sculpting is gonna help that... OMG!!!
Doctor Youn the term you are look for is tight lacing not corsetting. The images you showed for historical tight lacing are a combination of padding to increase hip and bust with and photo editing. They would actually go in on the photo plates and scratch in the thinner waist and you can zoom in and see the marks on the photos. It’s just a note since you are big on correcting misinformation.
I clicked only to see if the Surgeon willing to remove ribs would be named; *shocked* when the Surgeon actually spoke about it on national TV and is in the US instead of some tiny obsure nationaless country.😮
hahaha I love watching this doctor's videos, the reactions to the facial expressions to the video made me laugh and he is right people have lost their sanity
In the novel Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, the main character Scarlett O'hara was the "belle of three counties" due to her 16 inch waist. The fashion of the day dictated that a young girl/woman with a corsetted waist over 18 inches was considered huge! Only children & old women got away without corsets. As far as i know this was a book that was researched by interviewing people who were alive when it was set so i think a lot of these details were fairly accurate.
Options instead of the 'forehead lift': a haircut that gives her a fringe. A topper wig that gets placed forward of the hairline. Either of those would be cheaper, none of the risks of surgery. And all would be easily changed.
I did sculpture, I thought I was going to die. It was hands down the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, on par with labor pains. Never again, no thanks. And it did nothing!

I was and am still in love with my first boyfriend from when I was 16 whom I came to this place with FREQUENTLY. (Were actually still very close and I'm nearly 44 now)
He ended up moving to Austin because of his struggles with his identity and frustrations trying to be in the desired relationship.
He though he could buy me too. I'm not a shallow gold digger though.
I'd rather be poor and happy than in a situation that makes me miserable.
Any surgeon who thinks it's ethical removing ribs JUST to be thinner, is WILDDDDD.

Yes! She has a naturally long face, and her forehead was perfectly proportionate. If you’d asked me what type of work she was looking to get done, I’d never have guessed she was aiming for her forehead. I’m often baffled by the parts folks choose to fixate on.
Her head looks so weirdly tiny now! I couldn’t help a laugh.

Oh, that's why I see paintings of queens with the widest foreheads!
Medieval beauty isn't so common these days
Art history legitimately played a huge part in me finally accepting my face. After all, if all those greek and roman statues and mosaics can look beautiful with noses like mine, why should I not feel beautiful?
Many many lovely and intelligent women can go for a Megamind.

The Way Dr Youn is Truthful , But Doesnt Judge the Patient Is Incredible and Heartwarming
And i really think it is better that way 😅
When I was living in Germany for 8 years I have never seen a Doberman with altered ears and no tail.
Some people still remove the tail of some dog races in Germany, but it's illegal and they often do that outside of the country.
Good
I agree this fully.
Germany… the leader in medical ethics. 🙄😂☠️
I saw the Botched episode too. insanity
It does mean intelligence
Having a high forehead means your hairline is receding and your brains are dripping out your nose.

As someone with a genetic double chin that is always there no matter how skinny I get, that I have been DYING to get rid of since I was a teenager, I would never use cool sculpting because I don't need to be one of the people that experiences PAH and my neck gets even FATTER.
I think you are better off with liposuction or some kind surgery . Cool sculpting like he said, only reduces 20% maximum
I also have genetic double chin and yeah I probably would still have it if I was starving to death lol
You should be able to get surgery to help to breathe. I'm sorry you have to go through this.
My grandmother had an 18” waist naturally and I had a 21” waist before kids at 30. It doesn’t look bad when you’re proportionate everywhere else, we are just very narrow framed.
You also hopefully still have your ribs! It's different when it's genetics and all of your organs are intact and protected 😂
Haha, yes all rids are intact! 😂

I have a high forehead so I just always have bangs.
Not only a trauma/injury risk, but ribs contain bone marrow that makes your blood cells…what happens when you remove a significant volume of your bone marrow producing capacity?
U need to let her know. Really good anology
Ribs are thin and don't contain a massive amount of marrow. The big marrow bones are in the legs. I'd be more concerned about someone who has had a leg amputation or born without legs. Still though, for cosmetic reasons, I wouldn't risk any bone loss other than natural aging.

Ha, Kim K fell for it!

Doc, don't worry about the length of your forehead, you look great!
Couldn’t she have reduced her forehead by having that hair follicle transplant procedure they use on thinning hair?
My thoughts exactly.
There has to be better options than what she did. Totally unnecessary
that's exactly what I was wondering, maybe the surgeon didn't mention this option ?
But is the hair real ?
I would think if a hair transplant were done, it would make her look like she's wearing a hair cap.
Putting your organs in jeopardy for vanity 🙄
Lmao you went in on mama June 😭😭😭
I love you! 🤣
Ok tell the truth - how many of us just measured our foreheads lol. . .
My forehead is also 2.75 inches, similar to Dr Youn's. I just got curious and measured it. I've never thought it looked bad despite it being on the high side.
I never noticed his forehead either I think 2.7 inch isn't really long enough for people to think something like "wow this person have a big forehead"
Really like this Dr's expressions 😂😂

I've had a breast reduction 14 years ago, and I'm happy about it, although it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. BUT There are areas under my breasts that has lost all sensations. Now, I have made peace with myself. I will age gracefully as nature attended it to be. Those who wants to persue plastic surgery go for it. It's just not for me.

In the novel
Gone With the Wind
by Margaret Mitchell,
the main character
Scarlett O'hara was the "belle of three counties" due to her 16 inch waist.
The fashion of the day dictated that a young
girl/woman with a corsetted waist over
18 inches was considered huge!
I have no idea why the algorithm recommended this video to me, but this channel is wild....
