Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (October 1, 1910 - May 23, 1934) and Clyde Chestnut Barrow (March 24, 1909 - May 23, 1934) were an American criminal couple who traveled the Central United States with their gang during the Great Depression, known for their bank robberies, although they preferred to rob small stores or rural funeral homes. Their exploits captured the attention of the American press and its readership during what is occasionally referred to as the "public enemy era" between 1931 and 1934. They are believed to have murdered at least nine police officers and four civilians. A photo of Parker posing with a cigar came from an undeveloped roll of film that police found at an abandoned hideout, and the snapshot was published nationwide. Parker did smoke cigarettes, although she never smoked cigars. According to historian Jeff Guinn, the photos found at the hideout resulted in Parker's glamorization and the creation of myths about the gang. The 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde, directed by Arthur Penn and starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in the title roles, revived interest in the criminals and glamorized them with a romantic aura. The 2019 Netflix film The Highwaymen depicted the law's pursuit of Bonnie and Clyde.
At approximately 9:15 am on May 23, the posse were still concealed in the bushes and almost ready to give up when they heard the Ford V8 Barrow was driving approaching at high speed. In their official report, they stated they had persuaded Ivy Methvin to position his truck along the shoulder of the road that morning. They hoped Barrow would stop to speak with him, putting his vehicle close to the posse's position in the bushes. When Barrow fell into the trap, the lawmen opened fire while the vehicle was still moving. Oakley fired first, probably before any order to do so. Barrow was killed instantly by Oakley's head shot, and Hinton reported hearing Parker scream. The officers fired about 130 rounds, emptying their weapons into the car. Many of Bonnie and Clyde's wounds would have been fatal, yet the two had survived several bullet wounds over the years in their confrontations with the law

Hamer didn't walk out before the shooting began. Manny Gault shot first, hitting Clyde in the head killing him instantly. Clyde's shoeless foot slipped off the clutch, which was still in 1st gear. The car lunged forward which led the posse to believe they were getting away. That's when they all started shooting. The car ended up quite a few yards down the road and came to a stop off to the left in a shallow ditch. Bonnie was still breathing when Ted Hinton opened the passenger side door. She died within moments.

Hi Nick. Thanks so much for taking the time to video this for so many who have not had the chance to do so themselves. Kindly let me to help out a bit: "Frank Hamer would have COME back this way"......"Bonnie and Clyde would have COME this way".......they would not HAVE CAME this way...... "HAVE CAME" is borderline cringe worthy I'm just being honest - you could say that they came this way........but not have came. (btw - sad that Dallas didn't find the time to prevent the demolition of the Barrow gas station earlier this year. Pretty super shocking. I'm not one to glorify violence but I am also not one to suggest that we tear down statues or demolish the small fragments of our past just because I do not agree with it. Most people are not yet aware of the true history of nearly everything as it stands anyway, so to suggest such a thing is likely one being quite oblivious to one's own ignorance! See all of 2020-2021 for reference.) Cheers!

@@laurenurban3942 I can't imagine anyone in their right mind condoning or celebrating the actions of Bonnie and Clyde. Yes, their murderous actions and total disregard for the sanctity of life was appalling and horrific. Using this as reason to damage and destroy something that is part of history, as criminal and evil as it is serves little purpose, other than to satisfy a personal grievance. Also I'd imagine the State of Louisiana would have laws that prohibit the discharging of firearms in a public place.

What's interesting to note is when they filmed the death scene in the movie "The Highwaymen" (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson), they filmed it at the exact location that the real ambush happened (like you show in this video). They had to bring in tons of dirt to pave the now-asphalted highway, along with fake trees and bushes to bring the woods and highway back to the way it looked in the 1930s. That must have been one heck of an expense.

If you could pin point the actual spot where Clyde stopped and most of the shooting took place, before the car rolled down the hill a bit after they were both killed, it might be possible, using a metal detector, to find a bullet or two, maybe get really lucky and find an empty shell where they were shooting from, one or two may have been missed.

I have some major issues with this story / event.
I'm a retired peace officer and absolutely appalled over how this was handled.
According to the U.S. Constitution, aka "Law of the land" this ambush was illegal as hell!
It's pretty much common knowledge that Bonnie & Clyde were guilty of multiple crimes HOWEVER... according to the letter of the law, to this day, they remain innocent as they were never proven guilty in a court of law!
Nobody ever attempted to serve a warrant. In fact I doubt any were actually issued.
Texas Rangers had no jurisdiction out of state!
Also according to the law, most if not all involved in the ambush should have been charged with conspiracy and murder. None were.
Yet most celebrate these "brave heroes."
There were other options to serve justice. This wasn't even a good last resort.
Some other details most overlook. Most of the weapons seized in the ambush were stolen. Technically still property of the "previous owner(s)" yet law enforcement officers kept them as souvenirs.
Bonnie & Clyde's car, wasn't actually their car as it too was stolen. The registered owner still owned it!
It was only after a major legal battle with major expenses that it was returned.
Zero compensation for damage, legal expenses to recover it or the profits made from it until it's return.
Other "souvenirs" actually owned by Bonnie & Clyde were kept rather than offered to surviving family members.
All of these things are contrary to the oath I swore (and every other LEO) swears to.
The difference is that I meant what I said.
It's no mystery to me why most people hate "cops". And rightfully so. The bad ones brought that down on all of us.
We The People are also to blame for our current state of affairs for allowing events like this to go unchecked.

The same with Lee Harvey Oswald. He was never tried in court (for obvious reasons), but to this day, most articles refer him as JFK's assassin, not 'alledged' assassin.

    • @bendover4154
      @bendover4154 Год назад

@@kennethcurtis1856 No way was Oswald responsible for JFK's death.
I was already convinced of that many decades ago but by accident I was stopped at a traffic light and noticed the street sign. Directly in front of me & to my right was the Texas School Book Depository!
Of course I had to find a place to park.
The street is marked with an "X" each spot where JFK was hit.
Standing on each X, I looked back to where the shots allegedly came from... they didn't line up. However... the building across Houston St did!
I never believed Oswald was the shooter, but was still astonished over this unmistakable revelation.
I'm not sure about the "grassy knoll" but if you look in the storm drain below the sidewalk, there is a rather large room... making the perfect spot to fire the fatal shot without being detected.
I don't know where the storm drain goes but it appears large enough for someone to calmly walk in/out.
Regardless of all the theories, only one person had the power to cover it up. "Coincidence " that same person had the greatest motive & most to gain. Another "coincidence" was his familiarity of Dallas and likely allies there.
Oh and it was merely an accident that he had a copy of his "oath of office" in his pocket... just at the perfect time too.
But... nothing to see here folks.

Prentiss oakley was one of the Louisiana lawmen from the parish that took part in this. He said there was no warning at all, nothing. He was told that when that car stops, let them have it. Prentiss shot Clyde in the head with a remington m8 in 35 remington caliber that he borrowed from a dentist friend of his. Prentiss was an expert with firearms and fired the first shot that killed Clyde. He felt terrible about it and never got over it. He took to drinking and had terrible nightmares. He said they should have yelled for them to surrender first if nothing else. The only sound that came from that car was Bonnie screaming before she died. Sherriff Jordan did not think to much of it either, he aged 10 years overnight. They would never be the same agian.

The other is statutory law to which you wrongly refer. This was clearly the “exception to the rule” and this met the exception. Otherwise you give them a sword and a shield with “due process” and “innocent until proven guilty” which they refused to recognize. They were judged and sentenced by the long arm of the law which is often, but rarely necessary. Why? They could not be taken alive and refused to allow others to apprehend them so they could face the wheels of justice. There were eyewitnesses to most of their crimes which included murder, robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping, grand theft auto, vandalism, defrauding innkeepers, assault, escape, etc. etc. Accordingly forensics, at that time, named their weapons, tire tracks and yes fingerprints as exhibits of evidence. Their death was their judgment due to the way they lived-by the sword. It was of their making and their choosing. Do not forget Clyde WAS a convicted felon, already judged and under a sentence for which he escaped. Bonnie had aided and abetted him and his unlawful flight against justice which put her in another category altogether…harboring fugitives of justice etc. If you dispute the deaths of their victims, and any of their voluminous amount of crimes, that is wrong on so many levels. Hollywood promotes such garbage by glamorizing blood-thirsty, heartless animals. This is ignorant and vilely repugnant.

In that time and age of the public enemies extra judicial measures were necessary to deal with cold blooded killers....a lesson learned by the deaths of numerous law enforcement officers who followed established protocols and procedures and paid the ultimate sacrifice. It's easy to sit back and quote laws and The Constitution in the comfort of your homes and offices but not so easy when you are faced with the reality of the life or death situation right in front of you.
