I walk and clap like a Thermian now.
Maybe, but do you talk like one? IF not, I am not impressed.
I am kidding of course. I wish I remember the link, but there was a documentary about the making of Galaxy Quest. One part of the documentary focused on the hot termit.... I mean Thermian who had a broken translator (you know, the one who fell in love with the engineer (Monk). Apparently, when in the car the actress totally adlibbed the "YAYAYAYZA!" sound and, when interviewed, she said she regretted she didn't do it for another second or two. Interesting, fun, and useless fact.
@@jonathanrobertson3406 Hahaha It was shocking as it was anyway so it worked. 😂
😂
@Jay Bond Speaking of "Monk", which was just mentioned, you might like that series. I know that you mentioned that you liked mysteries. Monk is your standard private detective show. He's a bit like Hercule Poirot, except he has EXTREME germophobia. He avoids touching things with his bare hands, etc.
Surely you mean a "termite" 😏😉
"Never give up. Never surrender."
Fun Fact: Despite frequent whining about his character Crewman Number Six being expendable and going to die, Guy Fleegman is the only crew member not to be shot and killed by Sarris during his surprise assault.
Bonus Fact: Tim Allen admitted that he was quite star-struck when he met Sigourney Weaver, as he's a huge fan of Alien (1979). Allen even got Weaver to sign some of his Alien memorabilia between takes. She ultimately did.
Hahaha Nice! Tim Allen is one of us! 😂 I didn't noticed that Guy didn't get shot, that's a fun little twist for his character. We love Guy!
She also took the role on the condition that she was a "dumb blonde." She specifically wanted to play the opposite of every other character she's done. They offered to even just have her natural brown hair, and she refused.
There is another fun fact. Guy gets a role as security chief on the new show.
But in Star Trek:The Next Generation, the security chief dies in the first season.
Fred (Tony Shaloub) was originally written as a stoner. They took out most of the references to the devil's lettuce, but they decided to keep the laid back attitude.
Fun fact: the in-universe TV show had the actors throw themselves around the set while the camera operator shook the camera, just like Star Trek used to do. But the command deck set for the "real" ship was built on an enormous gimbal, and the actors were actually thrown as the entire set shook like a violent earthquake. Just one of the ways they make the "real" ship feel more viscerally realistic vs the TV show ship, just like the two aspect ratio changes (4:3 to 16:9 when the convention is revealed, then 16:9 to 2.35:1 when Tim Allen is shot back to Earth in a goo pod).
The actors and their characters are only loosely based on Star Trek. Tim Allen is Kirk/William Shatner, Alan Rickman is Spock/Leonard Nimoy, Sigourney Weaver is veeery distantly an Uhura/Nichelle Nichols expy, and casting Laredo as a child actor in the TV show era was a clear nod to Westley Crusher/Wil Wheaton from Star Trek: The Next Generation. But Tony Shaloub's character was a pure Galaxy Quest invention, and a lot of important Trek characters don't have Galaxy Quest representation.
Awesome, thanks! That makes a lot of sense for Fred. He definitely acted stoned. I can say, if I was stoned and all that was happening I'd be losing my mind. 😂
I so wish they would've kept this as an R instead of trying to make it a family thing.
@@d3l3tes00n the scene where Sigourney Weaver says screw that is badly dubbed and if you watch her face she clearly said f*ck that. I can't unsee that scene now.
Shaloub was also the star of a tv show Monk. He was a PI who had memory loss due to the murder of his wife and got fired from his police job as a detective. It was a comedy drama.
@@subitman12 That's what Monk's about? I never actually watched that one but it sounds up my alley!
Brandon's mum is so supportive, her attitude reminds me of my mum's when I overheard a conversation between her and our aunts. My siblings and I grew up watching anime and never grew out of it. Our aunts thought it was childish and absurd for almost-grown adults to still watch "cartoons", and go to conventions dressed up in ridiculous costumes. Our mum told them "better that than drugs and gangs" and she had always let us pursue our hobbies as long as they don't get in the way of school.
the more you see it the better it gets
I love seeing people watch this movie for the first time. Great reaction and thanks for posting!
Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie that doesn't have the cast of Star Trek.
A fun, fun watch.
Galaxy Quest was probably the third or fourth best Star Trek movie of all time. This is said from someone who can vaguely remember some of the original broadcasts.
"Rudimentary lathe" is a direct callback to where Kirk fought the Gorn captain one on one and had to construct a rudimentary hand cannon from iron-hard bamboo, saltpeter, sulfur, and diamonds/diamond dust.
One of my favourite jokes you missed was Weavers role in the original was lazily written so all she did was ask the computer questions and repeat its answers. So when the thermians built the ship the computer refused to answer anyone but her making her pointless role on the TV show absolutely vital to their survival. And she keeps repeating the computer out of habit.
Sam Rockwell won an Oscar for Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri🏆(Best supporting actor 2018)
Oh wow!
He was also fantastically disturbing in Green Mile, and one of the highlights of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
its a love letter to fan culture, and all sci fi. And its the best Star Trek movie, lol. but there are references to other sci fi in there. The part where Jason gets licked by the pig lizard is actually a Stargate reference.
Right on! I don't remember Stargate much but I recall watching the first couple seasons of the show and loved the first movie. Just wikipedia'd it, damn that show ran for a longer than I thought!
@@JayBondReacts yeah, between SG-1 and all the spin-offs, it was around for quite awhile. SG-1 was my dad's favorite show, lol
What reference is that? (the lizard .. )?
@@osnatashtaralevin8944 when Daniel gets woken up from unconsciousness by the Mammoth/Horse creature that dragged him over the dunes licking his face with its giant tongue.
@@ladyshar42 Oh you mean in the movie?? I've watched the series so much I don't remember it anymore.. 😅😅
I'm glad to see young people getting around to exploring our common film history, but hearing a grown man say 'I've never watched Star Trek' is like hearing him say 'I've never seen a naked woman.'
Haha I get it. 😂 Just never been much into sci-fi and the brief period in my life that I was, it was just the og Star Wars trilogy on repeat. I'm aware of Star Trek, I could probably name 20 characters and their actors and even get references certain episodes but all just from various pop culture tidbits picked up along the way.
Proof that Jay is now the best reactor on YT: using "Hentai" and "kayfabe" in the same review--fucking awesome!
Hahaha Just natural vocabulary for me. 😂
I think this movie was tuned down to get PG rating or something.
At 20:03, Sigourney's character says, "Well, screw that!" Her lips are clearly saying, "Well, fuck that!"
Hahaha That's great! That seems so noticable now. I wonder how often that happens in movies where we don't catch it.
Enrico Colantoni (leader of the Thermians) was also memorable as the former sheriff in Veronica Mars(3 original seasons, a movie, and another season years later) and as a guest star in Person Of Interest.
Oh nice! I have never seen anything Veronica Mars but recall there being a lot of hype for its movie and return. I remember a big Kickstarter campaign or something.
@@JayBondReacts Fans financed the movie. That led to a renewed series which might have had more than one season if not for COVID-19.
He also starred on Just Shoot Me from 1997 to 2003
Another awesome cult classic. I swear you're just picking all my old cult favourite movies to react to, don't get me wrong I'm glad they were recommended to you, as it's twice as entertaining both watching segments from great movies whilst witnessing first time reactions to it.
Hahaha I'm in your brain!! Throwbacks coming up are Weird Science, Top Gun, & Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
There are soooo many nods to Star Trek in this. Not being a Trek fan you do miss those.
It was fun watching you enjoy this movie. Yeah, you missed some stuff specific to Star Trek, I am sure, but there is enough for a general audience to have a good time. Yeah, Fred was stoned and had the munchies. That was Tony Shaloub of MIB (the head growing back alien) and Monk. All the characters were well-written, not stock, and all the actors nailed it. You can't help but feel happy afterwards. Great reaction!
Appreciate it. I really should have recognized Tony from MIB. I watched that movie on repeat when it came out! I am curious to check out some Star Trek but it's such a daunting task when there's so much out there. One day!
That kick by sigourney weaver always gets me 😅
Can’t go wrong with anything starring Sam Rockwell (Guy)
Oh I've heard his name before but unfamiliar with him. I just looked up his IMDB and of all his movies I've only seen TMNT, Iron Man 2, and Charlie's Angels so I guess that's why I don't really know him. 😂 I'm sure that will change though as I keep making these videos.
@@JayBondReacts Yes, you haven't seen The Green Mile yet?! 🕺🏻🤘🏻🎉🎈🎊👌🏼✌🏼
My top 3 sci-fi comedies are
Back to the Future,
The Fifth Element and
Guardians of the Galaxy! 👌🏼✌🏼

That guy in the back of that car is actor Tony Shaloub Yes he was that alien on the movie 🎥 Men In Black that his head blew up then grows a new one! He also plays a obsessive compulsive order detective on the tv 📺 show Monk!
also the dad in 13 Ghosts!
Also Antonio the cab driver on the TV series "Wings."
The scene with the rock golem was filmed in Goblin Valley Utah. Fantastic place to visit! Great camping and hiking. And looks exactly like that. I highly recommend. It's very fun to play ailens there. But go in spring or fall otherwise it's way too hot or cold
That's cool! Utah has some great locations for this. I worked on an app about bike trails on the Moab and it all looks so cool!
This was Three Amigos taken to the next iteration - great movie, amazing cast, top to bottom, and Tim Allen's high-water mark
...even Kevin McDonald from Kids in the Hall appears in last scene at Galaxy Quest conference and Justin Long's mom was none other than Susan from Seinfeld, George Costanza's wife who died licking envelopes! lol
Love this movie!
"Galaxy Quest": The best "Star Trek" movie that Jar-Jar Abrams and Paramount didn't make. Sigourney Weaver liked the blonde wig so much that she wore it off set...all the way home.;)
It is Stan Winston's work! You hit the nail on the head. 👍🏾
Oh nice!! I basically only watch horror movies so I see his work pretty often. Masterful!
The guy in the back, as you'd described him, is Tony Shaloub whom you might also recognize as the title character of Adrian Monk
It's a love letter to Fandom!
as for going to a convention „dressed as these guys“: watch the „galaxy quest documentary“ 🙃
"Theres a red thingy heading toward the green thingy. I think we're the green thingy". And that was the day Guy became a man.
This movie is a wonderful homage to Star Trek but still hilarious for those of us who aren't Trekkies, tho there are plenty of inside jokes for Trekkies, like all the stuff 'Dr Lazarus' (Alan Rickman) says to 'Commander Taggert' (Tim Allen). "I see you got your shirt off." (apparently William Shatner liked to show off his body whenever possible)
At a Star Trek convention a couple years ago they had participants vote to rank all the Star Trek movies. Galaxy Quest was ranked as the 5th best Star Trek movie. The creators and stars of Star Trek love it too, and I believe it was Leonard Nemoy (not totally sure) who jokingly referred to Galaxy Quest as a 'documentary.'
That's great. Love that it's embraced by Trekkies!
Check out the Wrath of Khan Star Trek 2. That will give a feel of the Star Trek we all know.
Cult hit
Love this
at the time, god knows why, many did not like this film. only now, after so long, it is getting recognition. I don't think we will be wrong if we call it a classic.
Klaatu is the name of the visiting alien in the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.
I find it humorous that the girl NEXT to Justin Long is Leelee Sobrinski, but because she looks so much different now, no one notices...
Oh right on. She's someone I probably wouldn't be able to name by seeing her but I know her from Joyride.
She also has a significant role in Deep Impact.
''That guy'' has one more academy award than you do.
You don't know how many academy awards I have! 😤
The BEST Star Trek parody EVER made.
But it ISN'T a parody.
@@Otokichi786 it's a parody that is not a parody intentionally. in of her words, they didn't make it a parody of star trek, but it's essence is.
It's really a love letter to Star Trek, the series and the fandom, yet able to stand on it's own as comic sci-fi.
@@topomusicale5580 Yes it's a love letter and a parody. Being a parody is not a bad thing. In fact it's VERY hard to pull off a parody. So doing both. I think makesi t even better. In fact, I think it has almost as many memorable lines as "ghostbusters".
great movie .
Grew up watching this one , it's fun time :D
This is based around the cast of the original Star Trek, but as a comedy version. However; this is known in the Star Trek universe as one of the best Star Trek movies ever made. Even some of the cast of TNG love this movie. There was a time when they did try to make a sequel or TV series, but after Alan Rickman died, this is no longer going to happen.
I saw this movie in theaters and it's still in my top 5 favorites of all time
Dope movie
You know how you said the creature design reminds you of Stan Winston? All the practical stuff you see was done by him The pig lizard (inside out) being my favorite.
It really is a gem of a movie, glad you enjoyed it.
All the best from the far north of New Zealand👍
Aye, awesome! Just watched a New Zealand movie for another one of my channels, Black Sheep! 😂 My knowledge of NZ comes exclusively from Flight of the Conchords.
also 20:03 you can clearly see weaver mouthing the word FUCK!!! lol
Yes, the creatures were done by Stan Winston studios.
The one in the back played Monk the detective.
Hey Jay, the actor who played Mathasar was in the TV series Flashpoint and he played the character of Keith Mars, the father of the title character of " Veronica Mars"
Oh that's cool. I never got into Flashpoint or Veronica Mars but that's neat.
@@JayBondReacts that actor's name is Enrico Calatoni
Beryllium is about 2/3 the density of aluminum, so it would be pretty light for the size.
Really enjoyed! May your views and your likes always be equal.
Haha Thank you!
Maybe you didn't "lose" the comedy, perhaps you just "missed" it; there's some subtle funniness in GQ. Your laugh, when some comedy hit your funny bone, was infectious!
i love tony shaloub as a stoner/burnout.... i strive to be THAT cool
3:13 The Glenlivet was the first single malt scotch I ever drank...
If you want to react to Star Trek I'd watch it! Start with the original series.
That's a huge commitment so not sure I can do that tbh. 😂 Even just the original series has like 60+ 50 min episodes and I'd feel obligated to do do Next Generation which is 170+! 😂
@@JayBondReacts do it man. I had never watched Star Trek until about a year ago. I've now binged TOS (66-69), The Animated Series (73-75), The Next Generation (87-94), Deep Space Nine (93-99), Voyager (95-01, Enterprise (01-05), the JJ Abrams trilogy (09-16) and started Discovery (17-present), and theres more still. It was great all the way until the Trilogy in my opinion. Not that the newer stuff is bad, but it is different. So that's about 40 years of great Star Trek at least to watch. I don't think you'd regret it.
@@kyleoconnor5944 Wow, that's wild! We'll see. I don't think I could physically watch that much on top of everything that I currently want to keep up to date with.
@@JayBondReacts Because most of the Star Trek series are episodic (self contained and not something that has multi episode storylines or requires you to have seen previous ones) it is entirely possible to watch a sampling of 2-4 episodes per series and then go through the movies. The reactor Primate did a version of this. I'd be happy to assemble a watch list if you care to give it a go. (I've watched them all so many times that I could probably quote them all from memory)
Or you could just follow his path. But he didn't start blending in episodes initially, so I would add a couple of 60s original series episodes to his list, especially the episode "Space Seed," which is helpful in following the films.
that's why aliens avoid us. They're afraid Captain Kirk and Doctor Who will kick their a$$ if they visit us.

A forgotten Classic 😎 😎
This or Princess Bride are likely the best movies of all time. Honest.
If you enjoyed this concept you should check out the 1986 film _The Three Amigos_ which has a very similar theme.
Oh yeah, I did want to see that one. I believe it's on my list, but if not I'll add it. Thank you!
Dude...the movie came out in 1999, there was no twitter, or reddit or barely even FARK back then...
Dude...I was making an observation about newspapers existing today, not in 1999.
How's it going?
Good, how you doin?
Jay: "I just don't see who's reading newspapers... Go on Twitter, go on Reddit". And that's why millennials and Gen Z will destroy the world. 😂😂
They are both toxic as all hell but honestly, print media is immediately dated the moment it exists. You can't get faster information than Twitter. 🤷♂️
@@JayBondReacts You can't get faster MISinformation, either! But yes, newspapers are a corollary to computer programs: "Any program, when running, is obsolete."
Yo
Gotta say, I still read the local newspaper every day. Why strain your eyes to read stuff that has little to do with the world around you? Besides, I like having a more permanent record of some things.
That's fair. I guess it's the same reason books still exist even though eBooks are a thing. It just caught me off guard because I probably haven't even seen a news paper in years at this point.
@@JayBondReacts Undoubtedly the parents reading the newspaper was a way to show their disconnect from their kid. Well, he's out of the house.

you should watch Star Trek. The 1st movie is slow but things pick up after. Or see the series to get the references most movies do.
in most shows when they reference both Star Wars and Star Trek they normally get the facts about one of those movies wrong.
Woah, I didn't know they made 3 Star Trek movies (like the reboot ones). I feel like I'd miss out on all the callbacks from the shows and I definitely don't have time to catch up on all of that. Sytar Trek II by far the best one makes a call back to the TOS episode "Space Seed" but you don't need to know it to follow it
Star Trek 3 directly continues Star Trek II making past 2 required for part 3 and part 4 directly references part 3 , Part 4 is a lot of fun and has a setting and plot completely different from any other film in the franchise.
Star Trek V can mostly stand on its own but is a bit sillier then normal
Star trek VI loosely references Star Trek III but you don't need to see it to follow it. this movie sets up vital events to the rest of the franchise

Star Trek In to Darkness repeats the plot of Star Trek II , still requires you to know Space Seed but alters the ending of the movie going in a direction Star trek II didn't go in.
