Why are the drop catches are made in term of mentally, sir

Throwing arm elbow should remain above the shoulder height at point of throwing, or else would risk injury.

Very true. Also if the elbow drops in you end up 'short arming' the throw. This shortens the lever and costs lots of velocity.
