The strange thing about Donald Pleasance's Blofeld is that while no serious Bond fan would put him in the top 10 of Bond villains, he is at the same time the most iconic of them all.
Nice to see YOLT and TLD getting some love, they are often underrated for the reasons mentioned. IMO the best Bond is the one that brings you the most enjoyment. Great discussion, chaps 😊
Casino Royale is extremely good but there is one major issue with it for me. It has a drag at the end. When Bond and Vesper are getting close at the clinic, the main villain is dead, Mathis is detained and so it feels like the film is closing. This is emphasised by the sudden appearance of the comic relief Swiss banker character. It feels like a final scene. But then we move on to a final act in Venice. I remember the cinema audience were restless at this transition because they thought the film should have just ended.
For me, Living Daylights and Goldeneye are tied... And if I was pushed..... Mayyyybe Living Daylights. One thing Goldeneye does, which, I'm not sure any other Bond film has done since For Your Eyes Only, is the Bond girl has their own life away from Bond. WIth family and friends and a job. I like the way those two stories are established, and then they meet... WITH THAT SAID. I haven't seen a Bond girl have any less chemistry with Bond than in FYEO (with the possible exception of Tomorrow Never Dies).. He's a 50 year old, and she looks about 20.
