  • Tap dancing is a uniquely American art form, with more than three centuries of tradition behind it. Ayodele Casel, a dancer and choreographer who has worked on Broadway shows, has dedicated her life to honoring the dancers of years gone by and ensuring their achievements are not forgotten. Michelle Miller has more.

I was fortunate enough to take tap for two years in my 20's. That time was one of the happiest in my life. This is such a beautiful story on the origins, history, lessons, and heart of tap.

Thank you for covering Ayodele Casel and the Nicholas Sisters - Women Tappers! So delightful to know what Ayodele is doing to preserve tap dancing history. I was fortunate to have taken tap class in NYC with (first name?) Kelly in the late 60s, where I found out how exciting and also strenuous it was. I was also fortunate to have taken a Master class with one of the Nicholas Brothers in 1975 in San Francisco. He was very kind, and of course, brilliant.
