    10:10 love the bet on the river - that's exactly how you might play AdKd, AdQd, etc. And sensing that he wasn't overly strong because of earlier sizings was an important component of sniffing out the bluff. BTW, it's bad form to show your hand to one person and not share it with the table. In many rooms, somebody will say "Show one, show all" and you'll be forced to show your cards to the table. I'd just tell Jake (later) what you did.

  • @MrSweetgorgor

    that Ace river bet probably don't work as well as you would like. Most people would call it off with TP/2nd P there because good players understand that you are using the ace as a scary card for bluff. Agreed though that he was betting too small on the turn if he had a strong hand.

    4:14 You raise, 3-bet to $65, now you make it $165. The single most reliable tell in all of live poker: when somebody makes it a nice round increase over the previous bet, it's the nuts. So he makes it $65, you make it $165. I'm folding everything there that isn't AA or KK. Make it $155, make it $180, anything *but* exactly $100 more. Same is true of exactly $50 in lower stakes, exactly $200 more or $500 or whatever.
    Interestingly, I just called out Ben Deach about that, and he said "You know what - good point, and it's absolutely true."
    (1) Don't give off that tell, and (2) use that tell. You're welcome.
    Great persistence, great commitment to grinding content.

I know you mentioned his betting of 2 streets, but did that go against the table dynamic that much? Was it something different he did?

    Folding is intelligent. It might cost you pots now & then but check raised and if I can't beat a hidden set or 2 pair on the turn/river I fold. If I call and miss and its bet I fold unless I get the feeling he's missed or just bsing. Folding is intelligent $$ losing is boring and stupid.

    8:40. Betting $55 into $350 is pretty wonky. If he's going to pay off an ace (which he did) he'll pay off more. You will also find that in bigger, more sophisticated games, the tough players will recognize that for exactly what it is (one pair going for thin value) and put you to some tough check/raise tests. In situations like that, when I'm not sure of the right bet size, I go for half pot. If he's got an ace, he'll pay off half pot frequently (he's getting 3:1 any time you bet half pot). If you bet $150 on the river, you probably get called half as often, but you make more money than getting called twice as often for $55. Your goal isn't the most calls - it's the most chips.
    NB: J9 was open-ended on the flop, and got there on the river - it was something to be aware of.

    • @Wolfgang_Poker
      @Wolfgang_Poker  2 года назад

      thanks for the insight, I like your analysis of why I should bet 150 instead of 55.

    9:30 Check-raising either flop or turn makes no sense imo. You raised preflop and he called. The flop/turn smashes his range, so even if you flopped a set of 9's, you shouldn't be overly aggressive. I'd lead bigger with a flopped set, and maybe thinking about check-raising the turn, but in this case, I think a check/raise on either street would be a mistake.
