Tape your baseboards bro. If you’re a god at cutting in, good for you. But that doesn’t stop the rolling for spattering tiny tiny droplets of paint on your base. I was also taught to tape anything that gravity will affect. You can control your cut ins but you can’t change gravity
Bro as a painter my advice to is bring your paint scuttle closer to you so your not walking up and down all day cos you would’ve walked about 3 miles by the end of the day.
Just found your channel tonight I’ll be watching bro 👍🏻
keep up the hard work bro it’s good to see a man trying to earn an honest living
Thanks
Try a 14 -18 inch roller bucket and liner gets it done quicker, less mess than those trays, purdy do an adjustable frame ☺👍 good luck
I appreciate the effort. Just a few tips. Your rolling technique could be better. You're bending your back, which will injure you over time. try using just your hands only, not your back. Use the pole as an extension of your hands. Also keep your tray closer so you don't waste time walking back and forth. In Canada we have a vertical handle that attaches to the tray. It holds the pole when not in use and you can grab it easily as you move along the wall without bending over. That brush is way too small. You need at least a 2.5 to 3 inch for cutting walls.
Agree with all of this
£500 to paint emulsion on the walls.
No prepping or anything .Your having a laugh.
I used to do handyman work and never charged enough. Everybody wants things done for nothing. Nobody thinks of the time you take to price up the job and collecting materials. I used to get a lot of little jobs and people would not want to pay a decent price . I do miss the work but for me it’s not worth all the hassle that comes with it.
I totally agree. To be fair I price higher than usual just to cover time getting materials and call out for estimates etc.
Know that feeling pal!
Just seen a couple of your Vlogs. Changing careers next after 22 years in the army and finding your Vlogs very helpful, thank you
Don't be a painter😂, no one appreciates your work, they think anyone can do it, and they try to cheap you on price, work for landlords in empty houses if you want to guarantee your income and get left alone, I don't do tenanted anymore, don't want to deal with people or their stuff
I rate it because your making it work and making money.
On the other hand, no filling Or sanding down. I know for a fact there would of been slight imperfections in the wall.
You say you don’t use masking tape. Your right, you should be using painters tape to get a crisp edge!
A professional will use tape, a novice won’t and I don’t practice on customers property’s. I practice on my own.
£250 is a bit steep for just doing walls. Even if that’s all the customer wanted, you could of priced it up differently for that.
And it shouldnt of took a full day.
As I said, rate what your doing and I’ll be watching more.
Maybe price accordingly for what your doing not how long it takes.
Quality is remembered long after price has been forgotten my man
Proper painters don't need tape to cut in what you on lol
Have you lost your mind and how long have you been painting to be downgrading his choices of price and how he doesn't or does do his application?
Everyday is different and everyone is different and every customer is different...So what are you talking about?
I probably spend the first day prepping and repairing cracks etc, keying the woodwork, caulking and cleaning down. Then it’s ceilings cutting and rolling the walls first coat and then undercoating wood. Second coat walls and then two top coats on the wood. I do change things about sometimes depending on drying times and other factors but it would definitely take me longer than two days to do a proper job on a similar area. I suppose it’s what works for the individual that matters though as no two decorators are the same.
A few tips mate.. 1 get a bigger pole 2 a bigger roller 3 always keep ur scuttle with u and 4 where your whites
I have just painted two rooms and a kitchen and I have previously done it also.
I enjoy doing it I have previously looked at painting as a way into self employed role but I struggle to find work.
Hello Man as a professional painter and decorator with your permission I would like too give you an free advice, :for cut in lines use a angle brush, cut all the in first before using the roller# starting apply the paint with your roller from middle of wall, brushes and roller you use is low quality
Hi, I find your video interesting. I was hoping you can do a video on sites to get jobs.
yes. you a great job. can you explain how do you find the job thanks
Thanks for the video mate. I'm looking at making the move over to Painting/decorating and handywork from design engineering desk work. Seem to be a lack of blokes/husbands/ who know even the basics these days so money to be made.
Totally agree. Good luck and you will not regret it
How is it going?
I am a handyman for many years but anyway fount your channel helpful. I like to get new knowledge all the time making my job better.
One thing about the price you advised. The UK has many different areas and prices could variable a lot. For example, you couldn't charge the same price for a job in London and SouthWest.
How do you know how to price up a job
I totally agree with your point on profits. This was a thoughtful video... Subscribe
I'll defo be working with you in the near future.
i use tape everywhere i can. cutting in is a skill you really need as well so thats a great point. great video i subbed the channel. thanks.
Handyman is where the money is and a job that has no shortage of work, I probably earn just as much as any tradesman and it is usually easy clean work.
End of tenancy is where I get most of my work, because I am dealing with regular landlords I charge £40 per hour and a typical end of tenancy is 4-6 hours work. Typically a bit of filling, painting, changing sockets, bulbs and switches and then a clean ready to rent again. After this I will fit in my smaller jobs (1-2 hours) and charge £50 per hour.
I average well over £300 a day with little overheads, just me, basic tools and a small van.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is this for one person? per hour :)
also who pays for the materials, paint filler bulbs etc?
Hi. I like your comment. £300 is just for work? Right? On a top of that is paint etc....?
@@razileg I am now charging £45 per hour these days, cost of living and that. But yes that is my base labour rate and bulbs, paint, filler, sealants is chargeable if I use quite a lot of them.
I won't charge for filler or sealant if it is only a little bit.
Charge £250 a day outside London and you'll have to advertise. You won't get word of mouth recommendations, and that's where the steady work comes from.
I have to disagree.
It depends who you're work is aimed for.
Those with money on a budget or those who have the money to pay for a proper tradesman/person doing the work.
Not true at all im in the midlands and get 250, on contract work from estate agent often as much as 500 a day
What did you used to do prior to painting? Also how many years of experience do you require to earn £250 - £275 PD? By the way great video.
Where do you find your leads from?
Please let me know where you get these Jobs also I would be more than happy to help me through this industry as someone that is starting out.
Thank you

hi my name is peter ive just got back to job im in bristol just need to know anymore tips and upgrades to this job and how to get my name out there
how do you get your painting jobs from?
Advertising, positive feed back from customers, its the only way
Nice video - But get a thicker roller head. Should get 2.5 ish lengths with that. ✌🏼
Get a 18inch purdy roller and purdy angled scuttle save you hour a day.
New subscriber am a painter from Kenya 🔥
If your doing a hallway and a room in a day it’s obviously no woodwork cause it’s not possible to do a good job on that time with woodwork drying time filling caulking sanding
How can my hubby gets a POP ( Plaster of Paris) and screeding jobs in UK. PERMANENT WORK with a visa sponsorship
No overalls?
It's the prepp that's the hard work, anyone can paint
Brother one question what You think do we need painting and decorating course from any college, in Birmingham, or you make one video separately if someone want to start first stage
is learning this work, from where we start, first if someone teach us depending on person how he teaches,
secondly do I need to go any institute where I can learn properly and get certificate atleast basic knowledge about
Just only (painting, and wallpaper )
Even I would like to mention that because I m Muslim, it is big reward if u teach and motivate to someone who has no achievement in the life,he is struggling.

Hello mate, I just moved to rainham Essex, am a painter back in Canterbury but needs new connect please help a brother.thanks
Do you paint your skirting first or last
You don't want to be messing about with 9" roller in that landing
Thx pal.. just thx ... u didn't have to do this vid, but u did ... fair play x
No way I'd charge $250 a day with little experience as I can see by the way you work and the kit you have . What is your CSCS number?
thank you for video Mate
So in other words you are slapping 2 coats on the walls and not doing anything else no ceilings painted or woodwork. Jack of all trades master of none
The clients request. This is something that comes up in alot of refurb work for new builds.
Everyone`s a decorator these days 😆
@@Nickpaintbrush are they? 🤔

I'm painting a friends house if I list down what I'm doing can u tell me how much I should charge very unsure how much to charge
if its a whole 5 bed house modern with upvc then looking at about £6,000 on average depending on type of paint and type of staircase etc 5 bed house with timber front back door windows etc depending condition easy extra grand depending on what paint etc too
Certainly be taking ur time with that 9 inch roller 😢
Been a decorator for over 35 years my philosophy has always been someone in your area has to be the most expensive so it might as well be me, I've always worked,no shortage of jobs ever, do the right job !!
How do you generate business
How much you charge for a m2 painted ?
Do you take deposit first?
Not on small jobs but always on bigger jobs
I'm doing handyman work and also I'm new on the area ( London) for now I'm struggling to find clients 🤷🏻♂️
Any way to help me I'll appreciate it 😊
Well done.
I purchased a hop along ball.
Fair enough, however painters paint ceilings and doors too. No way you charge £250 to emulsion walls. Thats an hour or two of work at most for a tradesman.
the emulsion on walls would take most the day with 2 coats with waiting between coats especially using retail emulsion takes longer to dry
An hour or two if you want a rush job with zero prep work yep agreed. But if you want a good thorough job it definitely isn’t an hour or 2 😂
When the DIY folk think they can quote
Where are you from?
Soon as I saw the brush it says it all 😂
You should charge more ?
U need painting overalls to at least look the part
Longer pole as your killing yourself & a purdy 12 inch or bigger roller, not sure if your using mini roller to roll sideways up top when cutting in but you dont need to bring that line down so wide, i cut in with a brush & bring down around 2 inches then roll up close, don't rely on masking up as it's unprofessional & you will never learn to cut in if you just go onto tape, im 38 yrs now £200 a day London Essex
Do you price your job individually. Example. If someone want to paint 14m² room...? If yes, how much you charge if you painting one time only and how much you will charge if you do 2 coats same room?
@@razilegwhen i price a house for example i basically go room by room work out how many days then total it up, im normally bang on , 14m roughly 50ft, hard to be accurate without seeing but around 2 days a coat as you'll be cutting in to ceiling & skirting, that takes the time rolling is fast, plus i never use masking tape to cut in but you need to for masking top of skirting to protect from roller spray which is time consuming
@@TheWESTSIDE1967 a week of work for a room 14m²? 🤯
@@razileg no i corrected that as i was looking at it as i normally do from start to finish, as i always do the lot including ceiling walls & woodwork, very rarely do people say just do walls, il give one reason is because if the previous colour has gone onto ceiling & i put a different colour on then i will have to go slightly higher to blot it out & then you are not getting a perfectly straight cutting in line as your following the previous colour where cut in & as i said having to come slightly above, if it's walls only i prefer to make a new line by just running a brush around edge of ceiling & starting afresh
Nice
👍
Need paint job
In your dreams
were u good at art as a kid
Yep
Get some dust sheets man
700 usd for that hallway
