    I'm not sure but I think, during the Bean War, Cool Hand Luke was picking up the ones Sarah dropped and putting them in his bowl. 🤣!!
    Someone really should come and do a documentary on Sir Rupert McPiggery, his Lady Peppa McPiggery, and all the wee little McPiggery's, at the Castle McPiggery, which overlooks Lake McPiggery, on the McPiggery Estate.
    🐷🐓🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖...😁😅🤣!!
    The wildflowers are indeed so beautiful. I'm glad you get to enjoy them awhile, and the bees and us too, before they have to go. It's a wonder how they can get cut down each year and then come right back the next spring.
    Have a lovely week!! 🥰🌿♥️

    May I suggest that you consider a solar-powered electric fence system to manage the romantic encounters between sows and boars?? It would work very well in a climate like yours.
    Pigs learn wonderfully quickly to respect the fence, the fences are easily moved so your livestock can help you with the strimming and fertilizing of your pastures and there is a remarkable variety of fence systems available. In my experience, goats are very challenging to fences and will show you where improvements are needed, but pigs are much more easily trained.
    My property was surrounded by forests with black bears, coyote and mountain lions and I didn't have one of the new systems that are designed for predator control so we saw a lot of wildlife but it seems that is not a problem for you. Except for the boars, I guess.
    For decades, New Zealand has led the world in innovation for fencing and pasture rotation and some excellent systems come from there. Many livestock owners in all sorts of climates love their solar-powered systems so you will be able to find lots of useful help on the Net.
    I have a modest amount of experience with pigs so I stand to be corrected but I think you will need both a perimeter fence and an interior fence - unless you want more wild babies.
    Four-foot lawn mower/manure-spreader combos are a great help at managing your land, especially the ones that come when they're called.
    I look forward to what happens next in your piece of paradise.

    With the bean stalks they are best broken up. I used to dig them into the soil lightly and then cover in straw or other carbon rich mulch and then keep moist to speed up decomposition. You don't need to dig in the broken up bean stalks if you are going no dig, but you should still use a carbon rich mulch and keep moist. The bed will be ready for use again when all the woody bits of the bean stalks have broken down. If you want to use the bed again immediately, you can compost the bean stalks somewhere else but use the straw/carbon and water method again

    It's nuts what a difference there is in the climate your side of the mountains! I found your channel last winter while stuck in my kitchen watching the rain. It was kind of nice watching people getting on with the sort of stuff I should have been doing but couldn't (at least not without getting drenched ... and having lived in Scotland most of my life, I refuse to do that here 😂) It's been such a wet and cold winter and spring this side. We seem to get them on average every 5 years but everything is so late. And green. And still growing like crazy. My broad beans are only just beginning to come ripe here. I have most of my strimming still to do since everything I did is already back to knee height. Will be interested to see how your drip system works. I use drip lines but combined with a hosepipe as I find once it gets really hot the wet spots on the drip lines don't spread out far enough.

      @@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife haha! I don’t have anywhere near as much of it as you guys have so it’s a walk in the park by comparison. A walk in a wildlife park at the moment, but still a walk in the park …
      My place is only around 2-2.5ha and the really steep slopes I leave the bracken and broom because that vegetation really helps the small trees survive the summer, adding fertility to the soil and capturing airborne moisture on misty early summer and autumn mornings. Sure it’s also a potential fire risk, but there’s a balance to be struck. Unfortunately the fire cleaning regulations are based on the principle that nothing can burn in a desert. But I don’t want to turn this land into a desert - I’m working on restoring the native forest here which, as we saw in 2017, is more resistant to catastrophic fires.

    I'm curious about all the strimming that takes place in Portugal, as I keep on seeing it on various channels. I know grasses get dry and catch fire because their roots are shallow. But aren't wildflowers deep-rooted and therefore drought tolerant? How do they behave in the summer months when there is no rain? I'm asking because I was having a discussion with a local (UK) farmer about it.

    • @lukeandsarahsoffgridlife
      @lukeandsarahsoffgridlife  5 месяцев назад

      This is so exciting x x I wish i could advise you on cats but Timmy is the only cat I ever had so i dont have much experience with any others and sometimes he acts more like a dog than a cat 🤣. I had no problems with him like a few friends had, as he doesnt not scratch furniture and spends most of the day outside hunting .. i have trained him as i did molly , of course Molly knows way more than he does but he knows the words treat, sit, walkies, turn, high five and paw down. I never give him a treat unless he sits down or does a trick and when i go to give him his treat he always automatically tries to take the treat from my hand with his paw and claws so i just hold my hand closed with the treat inside and say paw down and until both front paws are on the ground he wont get his treat .
