I appreciate the in-depth reviews from your channel. You, unlike many others, do a pretty comprehensive review. I advocate for clarity and concise content when watching reviews. So thank you.
One of the things I love about your videos is how clean the trucks are when they come back to the bench at the end of each video. There are plenty of RUclipsrs that bash harder etc, but I find your clean trucks really satisfying 😅 Any chance you could do a video showing us your cleaning process? I’m relatively new to the hobby so would be good to see it done by someone that clearly does a good job of it!
Before deciding between this and Kraton I was led to believe the Sledge was more reliable, but based on my experience and this video it makes me wonder where the advantages are if almost everything needs to get replaced. Unless that’s par for the course when it comes to extreme bashing. Still new to this hobby.
The motor mount that doesn't destroy gears is more important than a bent tower that can be beat straight. I did the BQ towers. Wish I'd done just a 7075 rear. It's interesting in our differences in power preference. I think the V2 needs 5s, and the Sledge with the stock setup is plenty. Thanks for the vids Jason!
I appreciate this from a "money is no object" perspective, but it's hard to imagine starting from zero and paying the RTR price knowing how much more you'd have to spend afterwards. I couldn't do it.
Me too I'd thow max 6 higher gearing ⚙️ call it a day , the Maxx I absolutely abused it fir over a year I even toughd out the laggy esc till it finally went , it's truck I use mud rain snow
That’s how I feel about my Xmaxx. I’d love to get the lights kit and other stuff but I just spent 1000 on just the car. To me it shouldn’t need any other upgrades
you don't need to spend any money on most of these cars for average normal use, these people upgrading the heck out of them are just hardcore that want to extreme bash the cars and nerds of the hobby that just use it as a mechanic simulator, just look at this dude's tires, they are spotless, he barely uses the car yet spends tons of money """upgrading"""" it to end up with a machine that is straight up less durable and reliable and insanely overpriced, all these people are about 1% of the user base. Don't enter in this upgrades money-time loop, be ahead of the curve, just enjoy your cars, whether is a sledge, a kraton or any basher, and fix as it breaks.
@@Mikeselchow thankfully the Xmaxx doesn't need much to beat the snot out of for a year. I did waste the stock tires rather quickly(foams), but otherwise it's a beast for me. Xrt looks really good too..as does the Maxx. This Sledge is just a complete miss for TRX IMO. I agree that after spending $1500, it's great, but WTF!? No GOAT prospect in any real sense of the term I don't think.
@@knowair6767 yeah, I went through the stock tires after a couple packs, wrecked my body in the process. I got the Duratrax hatchet x. They seem pretty solid so far. I actually went to the hobby shop today, I was debating on the XRT, but heard because the wide wheel base it’s kinda fragile, so I bought the sledge today. Getting ready to give her a spin right now.
You have a very nice setup now!! I like the color scheme of the blue/orange. It goes together surprisingly well! You would think for the price of this truck that Traxxis would have put the "upgrade" quality gears in it from the start rather than selling you the upgrades when you break the garbage gears they put in it. Not much Traxxis left in it at this point. Body, arms, wing, tires, and center brace? They really did a good job with the plastics on this truck though. You don't hear about arms breaking or the steering links too often.
Great informative video, I used to have a blue Sledge but i wasn't too much into it i ran it bone stock the entire time i had it and it ran well had no issues. I'm now looking into getting another one as a slider off eBay or buying another RTR or looking into the Kraton 6s V5 or the Kronos XTR 2022. Tell me if it's a good idea to get another Sledge or look into another brand's 8th scale truck.
You want mesh loose , not off end gear but not bottomed out either, the way you have it is perfect , it will draw less amps run so much better , when gears are cheap metal they do wear but you have good quality gears ⚙️
Carbon fiber can be strong or weak. It depends on the weave of the fibers and the density of the weave / layers. I also love to upgrade my cars. Its an addiction in some cases. In others its a strength thing. I bought a Slash and said I won't upgrade this. LOL Years later it is one of my heaviest upgraded cars lol
That was a really good overview.. Definitely some disappointing aspects about the truck out of the box but if you can get through those with some great aftermarket options like you have than I think the payoff is huge, both in durability and enjoyment.. At least they dropped the price 100 dollars to 979 Canadian on it to bring the price closer to what it should have been when first released.
I always love the kraton , from a performance pov.... that said I have brand new one and shelfed it. I have another I'm using typhon arms , I'll eventually go to Mojave. I like the Traxxas diffs , convinance , longevity , arrma is the ultimate performer if your able to set up rcs to a specific skills. 😉
I agree with almost everything that you said and I’ve upgraded everything on mine as well,Max6 with 1250kv, bash it chassis etc,the only thing that’s actually “Traxxas” still on my sledge is the receiver, have you used the belted sledgehammer tires? Bc there frkn awesome
Just got back into hobby after 20 years. I used to be like you. But as I get older I care less and plastic is easy to have spares. Their too expensive for toys already. But have your fun. I did with the nitro. 😆
I love the Sledge and yours looks awesome. Did they replace your max 8 ? Mine did the same thing and they would not replace it. They said I could buy a new one at a discount but not much. I did not like that I just got a max 6 to go back in it. Oh and have you seen the new tires for the Sledge that Traxxas has? well its same tire but new wheel that you can put orange or any color insert in there. It looks cool.
I had to purchase some sort of express shipping that did nothing. It was the worst service experience I have ever had dealing with RC or anything. It was bad enough that I am no longer purchasing Hobby Wing products.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs I’ve had the worst customer experience with the hobbywing guy. Burnt up batteries with my max 6 in my xmaxx and they guy blamed me and acted like a jerk the entire time. I’m getting close to not buying hobbywing also. Not there yet but definitely have a bitter taste in my mouth with them for sure! He was such an ass! Lol.
Hi Jason, great video and i love the channel. I like how you explained in detail what you did to the truck and why you did it. I would have liked for you to have talked about the fluids ( especially shock setup) a bit though since they also play a vital role in the trucks performance. Nice job though and the colour rocks.. keep up the vids.
I just don't understand why someone would spend almost $2k on a sledge. You could probably spend around $1200 on a K6S and it would be better than a Sledge with less work. Heck, my K6S EXB that I turned into a XL with the Mojave EXB chassis is better than a Sledge. MMX8S and 1650KV motor 23T pinion. 😂. Thanks for the video. I would never spend all that time and money on a Sledge. Just my opinion 😂
I just ordered this truck. Before it gets destroyed I want to do some super high speed runs what kind of speed do think is possible with this motor / esc setup?
Hey Jason, with all the upgrades you got done to the sledge I don’t even know if I wanna get the sludge anymore and if I have to put in all that money I think I’ll just wait for like version two or version three to come out
@Jason Perrin RC do you talk to people on Instagram's DM? If so I sent you a couple of questions on there. If not is youtube the only place you answer questions?
Diffs are still holding. No issues there. Pinion and spur were usual traxxas junk. Not sure on the durability yet. But I have broken a lot of parts. But jumping in the cold is never a good idea. So with it being winter here, it's sort of unfair to say it has issues. Just yet!
Why buy Traxxas at all? You’re replacing 80% or more of it, why spend the money? Buy the chassis and differentials, maybe a body, you’ve replaced everything else, seems a waste of money. I guess I just don’t understand why you buy anything Traxxas at all as much as everyone loves to bash on everything about them.
Nice video thanks! Gettin rid of my stock sledge since it doesnt seem worth it to me puttin all that money in it to make it run/last the way I want. Really dont like the sledge tires btw. The foam does not last long on either Sledge or Maxx.
So basically waste a crap ton of money in a perfectly working car to make it a shelf queen… I guess some people have different definition of what to do to improve something.

Thank you. I make videos that I would like to watch. Precise and mostly to the point. :)
Been waiting for this one! Just ordered a new sledge today and have been checking your progress with it. Thanks for the updates!
Congrats. The sledge is a great truck. And I hope u really enjoy it.
They should definitely bring this out as a roller, nice truck now you’ve blinged out 👌🏻
Is there anything else available for what he had to spend?

Hi bud how you had a great Christmas and New year 😊.
By the way my arrma outcast 1/5 scale has arrived can't wait to do a unboxing 😄😀

Jason I don't know if you know or not but Traxxas has came out with carbon fiber shock towers Will they be as good as basher Queens?

What’s the value of the parts that don’t HAVE to be replaced? Could those parts be bought for less than the price of a new sledge?
Hi hello Jason how are you happy new year I've just bought myself the arrma outcast roller 1/5 what do you think any good 👍😊
How much better is the Sledge than the v2 Maxx?
Wrong person to ask :). I am not a fan of the maxx. Handles awful.
Was gonna go with a max 6 . Now I'm not sure about it lol

Jason Perrin RC what motor is it? Castle has 2 1650's one is 1717-1650kv and the other one is a 1520-1650kv
1717

The sledge need so much out the box . It’s enjoyable wince you get all the crap parts out .
Just curious.have you ever drove the XRT?..if so what are your thoughts on the traxxas XRT? Do you forsee the same stock issues you exploited?
Diffs are still holding. No issues there. Pinion and spur were usual traxxas junk.

Im having issues locking body back on since I’ve installed GPM shocks. The front ones seem to interfere.
Those tire do ballon but they do work well

Jason Pearson RC what gearing are you running on the spur and motor?
Fan of your videos but curious are you aware castle manufacturers traxxas esc's?
Not anymore. They haven't since the MXL-6S
Man I like that car but man that's so much to do to an RTR I wouldn't get it for that reason that car cost you well over 1500 after all the upgrades.
What kind of servo did you upgrade to?
I blow out a stock tire the second run after I bought it
Can you send a link for the arms?
Nice video thanks! Gettin rid of my stock sledge since it doesnt seem worth it to me puttin all that money in it to make it run/last the way I want. Really dont like the sledge tires btw. The foam does not last long on either Sledge or Maxx.
What fan is that

Thanks, I’m excited for the build too.
At this point its not even a sledge anymore, just the body and tires
I hate the sledgehammers.
Great video but witch size motor mount for the standard motor thanks.
Thanks forbthe video tho
Bro. U need a little more interaction just having tour chassis sitting there makes your video a little boring
