it’s crazy how 808s was one of the most critically hated albums of the 2000s. just one example out of hundreds of Kanye being far ahead of the curve and creating his own waves.
I was a fan when it dropped and loved it, it’s my favorite winter album to this day. There was no internet like now so I was oblivious but I do remember rumblings but I’ve never been into critics opinions.
1:38 lmao man the reviews for 808s must have really killed his self esteem for him to be self deprecative like that. 808s & Heartbreak sounded like nothing in hip hop at the time, very forward thinking and simultaneously paying homage to 80s new wave and synthpop. To hear him say 'I'm glad someone else likes the album other than just me' is just so jarring considering how beloved the album is now and how many people it touched, really shows how different the reception was at the time.
Man all this interview does is show how strong a speaker and how easy-going/clever Kanye was. Terrible conversation on one end and he makes it flow, keeps it positive, and makes it idea-based
You say ‘was’ like hes not intelligent now. Hes still the same person just beat down by the constant hate from the media. Most of it, he brought it on himself. Hes still wise but tired now
@@safeinthehandz Disagree, he's defintiely fucked. I'm an appologist too. A lot of people turned on him and hate him, but saying he's "tired" and "beat down" is just wrong lmao. He has actually mental issues, whatever they are, his fault or not. It's there.
Mr. Kanye West is so intelligent and creative. He never fully recovered from the death of his mother. Wishing him well as he moves on after divorce. It's clear he is a kind soul.

This interview is so strange but so amazing at the same time. This looks like it was shot in the 90s or even 80s. The jacket and the entire outfit in general gives off the impression that it was shot back then. And those glasses just top it off.
crazy to know that Michael Jackson, who changed music forever since Thriller, loved 808s and is one of the many reasons Kanye made this album, and now this album is one of the greatest and changed music too.
People know MBDTF was made AFTER 808s right? Idk what’s with everyone saying he sucked from 808s? Plus, 808s is still an amazing album (and personally my favorite Kanye album) and legit that album is the reason why hip hop has changed and impacted so much after the 2000’s!
Yall dont understand. This era of Ye was very much needed. I can remember being around my friends dressing very preppy, business like with relax colors and cardigans, sweaters, and scarfs with messenger bags. Being a 🤓 a fan of music, the afternoon brunches, the calm night life with good music playing. My friend nick had this dope highrise apartment where we all meet and just kick it. I love tht ye came out and expressed himself for black kids tht had more appreciation for more styles of music then gangsta rap, which is cool but he made it cool to be different
They will tell you Kanye has changed, NOPE! He’s still has the same mindset on everything including family. Today he has his fourth child and his own family CONGRATULATIONS! Kanye for nothing let media control and cage you🤷🏾♀️🇳🇬
Scott Paulson it’s understandable Kanye has always been a futurist, gotta remember Kanye is an icon he is opening doors to new mix of genres, we need people like him to evolve music, that’s what makes a true icon, someone who isn’t scared to try something never been done before, he’s one of the most important artist of the 21rst century, and one of the greatest hip hop artist of all time.
this one the most awkward yet heart warming interview cause you just have two nerds talking about music but also again you have two nerds talking to eachother, so you get this beautiful yet awkward conversation
Yea, he's an eccentric goofball now, but, you would be one too if 500 people crowded around you when your trying to buy orange juice at the grocery store.
wooow. This was great. Now I understand much better where he is coming from. He is really sharp, one of the best answers right here. His view on macho culture is brave as hell.
808s literally opened the door for rappers to make retro, emotional melodic music. imagine if Kanye didn’t follow his vision.
Agreed, 808s is my 2nd favorite album of all time
No Travis scott probably and that means no Rodeo
Poopy literally The Weeknds entire discography
He only did it after being inspired by Scott mescudi as well
