I can’t remember the last time I saw a true masculine heart-throb on screen. Thankyou Chaske for re-awakening something in this middle aged lady.

I'd say I am a mostly reasonable 30-something adult woman who does not fall in love with movie characters, but I have to admit yesterday I got to the point where I was like: OK so this whole Eli Whipp situation -- should I be concerned? LOL. And I know it sounds like I am just simply lunatic but the funny thing is, I don't think I have ever had a thought like this before. But... Eli Whipp? And the way he looks at Cornelia? And the way he reaches out for her hand? And the way he talks and listens to her? And like, pretty much everything about him, inside and out? God help me.

@@imsparkly7968 Haha! I think you must be able to read my mind. That’s exactly how I feel about him. Never has a character ever made feel like I was falling in love before or at least understand why the love interest fell in love.
His strength, masculinity & intelligence coupled with his gentleness, empathy, devotion, honesty & integrity plus his silky voice & gorgeous looks. What more could a girl want eh😍
Such a great character & Chaske was perfect. I can’t even separate the two.

You know it's interesting because I feel like to me Chaske and Eli are very different / separate people and I guess I don't have the same reaction to Chaske himself. So I thought your last sentence was interesting! I feel I would be able to behave in a collected, normal human way if me and Chaske were in the same room. If, on the other hand, Eli was standing in front of me and he were looking at me and listening to what I am saying and he would reply to me in his own gentle, kind way ... I guess it would feel like I am on another planet, on an actual literal different planet. I think everything we get to learn about him, everything you listed above, his stillness, his calmth, his emotional intelligence... well, as I said before: God help me. Haha.
Sorry if this was too much information, but I need to unload and vent all this somewhere! And I really appreciate your comments, gosh it's so nice to be able to share this. I really wonder how Hugo was able to find / channel / write him in the script.

you know sometimes I wonder how Emily Blunt was able to remain composed. no but really, I don't mean it in a disrespectful way, but objectively you know when someone so attractive is there in front of you and all your nervous system can think of is hysterically laugh? :D ok so obviously this is an exaggeration but you get the point. Kudos to Emily Blunt for being able to conduct herself. Heaven knows I probably would have struggled.

So good to see Chaske Spencer as a leading actor in The English. He was made for this role. Chaske nailed the very understated, pragmatic character, Eli Whipp, who meets Lady Cornelia played brilliantly by Emily Blunt. Emily Blunt, as always, delivers a believable performance as a gentile lady whose courage and determination is tested as she travels throughout the wild west.Their subtle chemistry quickly draws the viewers in as the couple journeys towards their ultimate destination. How both characters grow and learn about each other over the course of the series was wonderfully developed. Great cast and great directing. Looking forward to seeing Chaske play more diverse and complex characters in years to come.

I remember the scene I think E1 or E2 when Eli takes the bow from Cornelia's hand and start flicking the bow string. I noticed that her right hand did the same exact flicking motion his did and stopped at the same time he did! It didn't look like it was part of the script. The English was a bit of a rocky start for me with the Emily Blunt soliloquy but managed to get through that by the Ben Temple character's shooting of the Cheyenne leader. The reaction of having shot the enemy, how he processed that action and then the intercession of the Pawnee Scout, Elis Whip kept me going. I was back on track when Blunts character stepped out of the stagecoach and communicated her displeasure at the speed to the stagecoach. Toby Jones, as the stagecoach Driver, was excellent - loved the interaction between Whip and him. Malcom Storry, as the Sherriff's Deputy, was also commendable. Having characters that were Irish (Sherriff Marshall) Welsh (Black Mog) Scottish (Major MacKay) and German (Mennonite) added authenticity with the various accents, as well as the British class structure represented by century

Great actor But Emily Blunt is probably the worst actress I have ever seen

Have you not seen Quiet Place, the giving birth scene? That scene was filmed in one take. That is when she won my respect.

She is fabulous. She also produced this series so obviously has a great eye for a story
