  • What is the BEST FORWARD Facing Sonar in 2021?! So far we have the Garmin Livescope which has recently been updated as well as the BRAND NEW Lowrance Active Target.... Which is the best? No joking around... No Bias..
    I break it down into three different tests to get a good idea of what will actually be useful in REAL fishing situations.
    Hopefully this helps answer some people's questions and helps YOU get a better idea of what is out there..
    PS: Rumor has it that the new competitor will be emerging soon so stay tuned for my opinion on that as well!

    Wow lots haters on here..... lowrance won simply due to a narrower cone angle which gives more details. All of the image issues the others are talking about can be adjusted with the gain for perfect images. This video is about effective ranges. This type of settings would not necessarily be used in real life. My bet if you were not focused on range but instead focused on image quality the lowrance would still win. Smaller cone angle equals better images. Most on here are Garmin live scope users and just hating because they just got beat by lowrance. Yes Garmin was first but as of right now not the best.

      @testboga5991 3 года назад +4

      It seems very close actually. Lowrance has more aggressive post processing with some introduced artifacts, Garmin had the softer image. Don't get hung up on cone angle. 18 vs 20 deg is tiny and you don't know how they calculate it. It could actually be exactly the same angle and one company uses -3dB and the other -5dB etc. That happened with 2D transducers.

    • @pyroozrat6565
      @pyroozrat6565 3 года назад +6

      If someone does not have the same opinion that you have they aren’t automatically haters and btw a narrower cone angle has nothing to do with better details. Pls get your facts straight!

      weird how people perceive things. I switched to Humminbird from Lowrance. never tried Garmin. Closer in, Garmin picked up the structure better. But picking up the fish farther out, Lowrance clearly looked better to me. 20:43 is the prefect example. I know it's not simultaneous, but overall, it looked like Lowrance did a better job of picking up the individual fish.

Been a Garmin guy for years and will stay with them. Look forward to more analysis in the future though for sure. In my mind, neither is the end-all be-all, and both are just additional tools to employ during the fishing day. Thanks!

    I've had livescope for just over a year. The narrow beam on the Lowrance probably helps to see things a little bit further out. In my experience with LS, once you get it dialed in for your particular conditions (water clarity, turbulence etc.) it is pretty easy to find your bait and know what's going on. I usually keep my unit around 100ft out and 30-50' deep, depth depending on which lake. I can easily see my a rig at those settings, and can see jigs, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits. It has definitely changed my fishing and allowed me to catch a lot more fish by finding additional structure, or seeing how fish react to your bait. My vote still goes to Garmin based on this video, but ultimately it's better for all of us when there is competition. Better innovations and lower prices when they compete.

Honestly, I thought the Lowrance was better in some of the areas you pointed out, but that weird pulsing going across the screen would be a deal breaker for me. It bothers my eyes. Also, in looking over the forums and some of the guys I’ve talked to at the landing after fishing I’ve noticed several folks have switched from Lowrance to Garmin or Humminbird. Most of them their reasoning was the same and it was because they had problems with Lowrance’s service. However, to be fair that was in the past. I would be very curious to know if Lowrance has stepped up their game in that area or if it is still the same. That would be my biggest concern and why I would go with Garmin as my brother has had excellent customer service with Garmin.

    Jacob, can you explain how you combine the HB360 with the FF Sonar? Do you use the 360 to scout the area, then use the FF sonar to focus on detail? I assume depth plays a factor? Would love to see/hear even more detail on how you combine these different technologies. Thanks for taking the time to help us all out.

    Just curious, I heard you mention that the Garmin was at 67% gain which seems a little low to me. What was the gain set at on the Lowrance? If it was 95% that might explain a difference in distance.

    • @WheelerFishing
      @WheelerFishing  3 года назад +1

      Color gain was higher, 80% plus. I normally only run 62%-70% on the regular gain that you can adjust on the screen just because if you go any higher it will blow out.

    • @boostedassasins
      @boostedassasins 3 года назад

      Just run auto gain , then adjust from their if you want to see a little more but not much more past auto because it will blow out.

    I own the Garmin Livescope and was getting really unclear images with the factory trolling motor shaft mount. I upgraded to the Summit Fishing trolling motor mount, so I can adjust the transducer angle and wow that made all the difference in the world. The factory Garmin Mount kicks the transducer off at an angle so it does not pick up the trolling motor foot, so at further distances the picture quality decreases big time.
    Jacob, can you reply which mounts you are using for both units in this comparison video?
    Thanks

    I thought Garmin looked better. Not as much noise. Almost like the gain was cranked higher on the Lowrance. Signal blotchs appearing on the Lowrance, Or maybe its my eyes LOL. Hope the settings and cone angle were set similar. Both look good, incredible technology. Great video Jake.

    I have heard many people complain of interference using active target in conjunction with mega 360. On the other hand you can keep garmin livescope one inch from your 360 pod with no interference. I would also say a wider cone is better esp because most of us bass guys have our live technology on trolling motor mounts. (Live scope user, never used active target but im sure it works well)

    Livescope is better...but does it justify having to buy a separate Garmin unit? Active Target saves you 2K because you can use just one unit.

    I have a Garmin I recently bought but haven’t bought the correct transducer yet to show the forward facing. I do plan to purchase very soon. I have to say to me the Garmin looked cleaner but maybe since I’ve never used on the water I may be wrong.
