Unfortunately firms like SBI are like termites, we'll have to fumigate the whole industry for awhile to get rid of them before we can go back to normal.
4:00 Just look at the MCU and the DCEU. Marvel started with an almost B-list character, Iron-Man. When that worked (90% because of RDJ killing it, let's be honest), they tied Edward Norton's The Incredible Hulk into it, by having RDJ appear in the post-credits scene. They they did Captain America and Thor (and Iron-Man 2), and only then they went for the gold with Avengers. DC, on the other hand, took Man of Steel, a movie with a mixed reception, and immediately jumped to featuring the whole Justice League in BvS. And they failed. They were so desperate to get to the money Avengers was getting, they screwed everything up, by merging 4 plotlines into one movie (Man of Steel II, Batman vs Superman, Dawn of Justice, and The Death of Superman), and failing to deliver in all 4 of them. You cannot rush franchises, you need to start one installment at a time, and see what happens. Once you've built the franchise, sure, tackle several angles at the same time. Even if the product is good (and U9A wasn't), it can still fail. The hubris you need to have to start a multi-platform franchise without having even tested the waters is insane.
In other news, Trump just fired the head Admiral of the U.S. coast guard for focusing only on DIE and not national security. Here's hoping this stuff trickles down into gaming!
They'll never learn. And yeah, I can feel sorry for all the actually good people who worked there, but ultimately, their heads decided to lay waste on themselves.
games aren't made in a week, or a month or even a year. EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE saw what was being made and why and they still went through with it. I have ZERO sympathy for any of them.
I'm an indie game dev, and game designer. I've not played Unknown 9, but when I watched videos of it and I could see that the chasm jumping in the game is not actually controlled by the player, but the player just presses a button, to make the "Player Character" jump the chasm automatically, I face palmed. Maybe this is one reason why the game failed. :P
I think nobody bothered with Unknown 9, and I mean literally nobody. All reviews were from people who got it with a graphics card or something like that. I unironically think they haven't sold a single copy.
I mean, there isn't a human alive who didn't see this coming. It looked like a proof of concept game that would never be developed outside of a trailer. Remember that game from Grandma's Boy? That 2004 alpha game looked 100x more entertaining than Unknown 9.
They dont seem to understand their own customer base they are trying to market to. Also, their audience is literally a percent of a percent globally so how do they expect to sell games to people that dont even play them? I got a few gay friends and 100% of them do not play games
What funny is that SquareEnix is doing really bad before all this DEI stuff back in 2001 during FF downfall and now 24 years later they had it much worse.
7:14 "All due to review bombing?" Well, with the number of players... that might be a solid argument in this case. Not quite Dustbin levels of players but... Although that leads to the counterargument, 'well, your supporters didn't leave reviews at all let alone good ones, so it's not our fault.'"
Anya Chalotra doesn't give a single F about games. I vividly remember her annoyance whenever Henry talked about games with sparks in his eyes. After she destroyed The Witcher where she was terribly casted, she was desperate enough to be part of a game - something she has 0% passion for and tanked the studio.... LMAO. Maybe she should stop doing woke slop
I simply don't understand how they thought this concept was strong enough to float a whole media universe. In fact, I watched most of a playthrough and I'm not even sure what the concept even was.
Oh yeah! That weird dark themed Pacman Metrovania style game that was shown off at The Game Awards. So they are going to ruin another franchise now? 🤦♂
Good question At what point do studios say 'You know what, we should stop paying these large amounts of money to these "consulting firms" to tell us to add things that only end up driving customers away'?
It's not even that complicated. You attack your customers, you try and sell something no one wants, you make everything political, you lose. The oddity is they can't figure how this happened.
How narcissistic do you have to be to seriously think that you can create a company, establish a new IP, and then immediately have that IP be a transmedia franchise? When your company hasn't created a single thing before, why start with trying to create this IP universe intending to have movies, books, etc to go along with your game? That is so incredibly braindead.
Oh no! So, anyway... SBI has left a trail of failures, tanking company profits in exchange for DEI/ESG social credit points. It makes you question, why aren't these companies learning their lesson(s)? 🤔🤔🤔
Kim Belairs's "job" involves creating an overly-complicated, unnecessary, unwanted shibboleth and securely fastening it around the neck of a flailing production, so that production can be pulled under the waves.
It's sad that "'gamers' don't have to be your audience", rather than having been relegated to the annals of history, has been embraced more and more by game studios. Somehow they have been convinced that these 'gamers' that they hate so much form a microscopic minority of their customers, and thus they can deride and insult them as much as they want.
Honestly, if the studio hires consultants, that's the sign that the directors of the project are failing at their jobs. Why don't you have people in place to set up the story before ever starting on the other game assets? The development process seems to have reversed in recent years. Studios make the software and then outsource the most important part rather than starting with the story and then working on making the game match that vision.
@4:36 If SBI is involved, I wouldn't be shocked if the Bandai/Namco project is a game that retcons Pacman and tries to make a story about how Mrs. Pacman is really just Pacman's secret trans identity. 🤣
All the based devs in these studios, who got laid off because of SBI politics ruining them, should band together and create a new studio - BASED GAMES STUDIO and start working without the restrictions and cult politics, being free to create.
I think Unknown 9 might have stood a better chance of seeing some level of success if they had made it a short TV series for one of the major streaming platforms instead. When it comes to movies and gaming, it's harder to succeed since people are far more picky nowadays with how they spend their time and money, especially with how expensive everything has become.
All this talk about "Future Success" it just reminds me of the whole Devolver Digital where the fake CEO keeps screaming "FUTURE" while her head's bleeding.
These companies know exactly what gamers want, and they are going out of business trying to make us buy something we hate. Its not going well for them.
I don't feel bad for them, the majority of the gaming community already warned that it was going to flop and they weren't going to support this project, if they still launched this game, it's entirely their fault for the failure.
Soon everyone will be mourning the loss of the devs, and the layoffs in the industry completely setting aside that this is not a "gaming industry" problem, but a problem with a bad product that no one is interested in. This could happen in any industry, and it's always a good thing for the long term health of the industry.
So my previous posts got nuked for speaking the truth. U9A happened because the D company used millions to push a hero of the same race. That media was trash, but they called it a win. They even made a movie with another trash character, Cap'n M (Monica R would've made a better Cap'n M than what we got, not because of the character, but because of the actor). So others thought they could push similar trash with less money. They were wrong. The D company is a powerhouse that can throw money at a problem and fool investors into thinking they're doing great... at least for a while. Not everyone can pull that off.

Bet the game that they cancelled was "Pac-They".
PAC-MA'AM
„Pac-They“ is probably still in development, after all, Namco-Bandai may have closed the developer, but at no point did they ever distance themselves from Sweet Baby Inc.
I watched the numbers on player count for this game on steam since it released. I knew this was only a matter of time
Its on xbox for under $10 right now, lol.
@@zybchIt’s not worth $.003
Video games are art and art cannot be politically correct because politically correct art is Propaganda, and propaganda is not art.
Just when we thought we were winning until we realize we aren’t. SBI still have contract deals with studios.
Montreal is the DEI cancer of the Game Industry. WTF is wrong with Montreal ?
Change takes time. It's not about instant victory. It's a fight for tomorrow not today. Hold your ground and it will change.
They didn’t change the industry in a day, it won’t go back to its rightful place in a day either
Unfortunately firms like SBI are like termites, we'll have to fumigate the whole industry for awhile to get rid of them before we can go back to normal.
@@gravitatemortuus1080 they're making it real easy to keep our wallets closed thankfully
They keep taking themselves out without us needing to do anything. Easiest wins of our lives.
“Past performance is not indicative of future results..." but a series of flops are an indicator of a bad product.
They'll never learn. And yeah, I can feel sorry for all the actually good people who worked there, but ultimately, their heads decided to lay waste on themselves.
There's a Pac-Man metroidvania being developed by Bamco. It's called Shadow Labyrinth. They were probably reassigned to that game.
Sorry Haroona, hopefully you maintained good ties with the call-center you left in Delhi. 👋
Games Studio that choose to work with Sweet Baby after witnessing what happened to their games and marketing for past 4 years would be Unknown.
Burning the games industry to the ground: One studio at a time
games aren't made in a week, or a month or even a year. EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE saw what was being made and why and they still went through with it. I have ZERO sympathy for any of them.
I want to read a "modern audience" post-mortem, they seem not to write them or release them.
Another studio killed by the sweet baby death kiss
I'm an indie game dev, and game designer. I've not played Unknown 9, but when I watched videos of it and I could see that the chasm jumping in the game is not actually controlled by the player, but the player just presses a button, to make the "Player Character" jump the chasm automatically, I face palmed. Maybe this is one reason why the game failed. :P
Unknown* key word
Unknown 9 is a game? when🤨
I never bothered with Unknown 9 as ive never played the 8 previous games.
Same reason I didn't worry about covid 19, the first 18 didn't cause an issue, never even heard of them, why worry about #19.
@@DarkForce2024This comment is gold. I did the same. 🤣
That 2004 alpha game looked 100x more entertaining than Unknown 9.
another one bites the dust
The only unknown thing here is how they didn't see themselves going bankrupt by rejecting gamers and embracing identity politics
oh no, i was looking forward to Unknown 10: Second Alarm, along with everyone else who just happened to busy whenever Unknown 9 was present.
Its crazy how these companies assume we will buy whatever they make...
Good question
At what point do studios say 'You know what, we should stop paying these large amounts of money to these "consulting firms" to tell us to add things that only end up driving customers away'?
These studios do not care what customers want. They only care that they "teach you a lesson". I hope that works out for them (nope).
It's not even that complicated. You attack your customers, you try and sell something no one wants, you make everything political, you lose.
The oddity is they can't figure how this happened.
What is on the screen of her presentation at 1:54 ?
Typical of wokies, secret pdf files.
So uh... this game is so bad it doesn't even have a Wikipedia article. That is truly hilarious. Literally no one cared
Which one is Unknown 9 again? Is it the one with the stunning and brave female protagonist of color? Oh wait.
So does this mean the Unknown 9 movie is getting delayed as well? Damn, I was looking forward to their cinematic universe. lol
I swear all I can hear is that random character from bl3, "I'M DOUBLING DOWN!!" Might as well be a SBI quote
Failing over and over again means they suck on purpose. How can anybody dismiss that?
They should have a deep reflector on their choices
Their goal is to wreck the game industry so this is not a failure for Sweet Baby Inc.
Hopefully Bandai Namco listen to this and stops doubling down on DEI. But then again, this IS Bandai Namco. They are shit and trend chasers
Kim Belairs's "job" involves creating an overly-complicated, unnecessary, unwanted shibboleth and securely fastening it around the neck of a flailing production, so that production can be pulled under the waves.
They/them might be gone, but I'm sure the hunt for modern audience will continue.
It's sad that "'gamers' don't have to be your audience", rather than having been relegated to the annals of history, has been embraced more and more by game studios. Somehow they have been convinced that these 'gamers' that they hate so much form a microscopic minority of their customers, and thus they can deride and insult them as much as they want.
too be honest Unknown 9 sounds better off as a book setting than a game.
If game devs need to hire a consultancy group in the first place then that is worrying within itself.
SBI is like the opposite of Midas' Touch. Everything they touch turns to sh*t.
It’s the Uwe Boll touch
@4:36 If SBI is involved, I wouldn't be shocked if the Bandai/Namco project is a game that retcons Pacman and tries to make a story about how Mrs. Pacman is really just Pacman's secret trans identity. 🤣
It is indeed a Pac-man game. The secret level episode about Pac-Man was based on the game Namco is currently doing.
Imma be smoking that reflector SBI pack
All the based devs in these studios, who got laid off because of SBI politics ruining them, should band together and create a new studio - BASED GAMES STUDIO and start working without the restrictions and cult politics, being free to create.
got the game for free, I don't want to play it, I prefer to keep playing baldur's gate 2 😅
I feel that, I've been playing GameCube games again the last few weeks
To quote the Archman himself: The stick, the stick, nothing but the stick.
I had to google this game in the middle of the video cuz this thing flew so far under the radar it might as well of spawned 6 ft under.
