Explaining the concept of Islamic & Non-islamic countries, in his book Pakistan and Partisian of India Dr. Ambedkar writes:- "According to Muslim Canon Law, the world is divided into two camps, Dar-ul-lslam (abode of Islam), and Dar-ul-Harb (abode of war). A country is Dar-ul-Islam when it is ruled by Muslims. A country is Dar-ul-Harb when Muslims only reside in it but are not rulers of it. That being the Canon Law of the Muslims, India cannot be the common motherland of the Hindus and the Musalmans. It can be the land of the Musalmans - but it cannot be the land of the ‘Hindus and the Musalmans living as equals.’ Further, it can be the land of the Musalmans only when it is governed by the Muslims. The moment the land becomes subject to the authority of a non-Muslim power, it ceases to be the land of the Muslims. Instead of being Dar-ul-lslam, it becomes Dar-ul-Harb",,🤗
It is important to view the social, political, religious, and ethnic issues of the Middle East in the historical context. Now, the history of this region should not be confined to the last 100 years. Because, it is during this time that the concept of western democracy was evolving and as a consequence of it, ideas such as equal rights and representation of various groups came into the picture. Taking the idea of modern day democracy and applying it to a region and time where a different set of social, political and economic institutions were at play is naivety. Prior to the British mandate of Palestine, and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the region was part of the Ottoman Empire. When we talk about empires, the borders are never fixed, it is always fluid. There is usually strife in some form both within the regions of the empire and potential threat from the outside. Therefore, populations move in and out of certain regions depending on whether they have the upperhand or not. If at any given point a community is overcome and defeated in war, they might serve under their captors, integrate with them or move out to more accomodating lands due to the inhospitable conditions in their previous homes. Now, if these people find out that the conditions are once again receptive and favorable, then they may or may not move back to their former lands/home. This has been the trend throughout human history. The people who come back aren't occupiers, because they were displaced from their former homes in the first place. Now, if we look at the history of the Middle East, especially the regions encompassing modern-day Israel and the Palestinian territories, it is rich and varied, reflecting a complex history of numerous civilizations and culture over millennia. Since the rise of Islam during the 7th century and especially during the Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates, the region has been dominated by the Muslim majority. The Islamic conquest of the Middle East made it possible for the introduction of new cultural and architectural elements in that region. A notable example is The Dome of The Rock in Jerusalem, one of the oldest Islamic structures in the world. The very site where the Second Jewish Temple used to stand. The period before the rise of Islam in the region had a strong Jewish and Christian Presence for several centuries. If we step back to the period of Classical Antiquity; the region was dominated by the "Ancient Egyptians", "Greeks" and "Romans". Take a step further back to the period of Ancient Civilizations; the region's archaeological evidence points to the "Canaanites", "Philistines" and "Israelites". History is replete with stories and accounts of the conquered and victors. The location of modern day Israel has unfortunately subjected the people of the land to be under the rule of several powers. The Jews have been conquered, dispersed across the globe and have returned back to this region in the Middle East on countless occasions. Nevertheless, since the emergence of the Israelites in the region, the Jewish people, they have continued to live in what is modern day Israel in greater or lesser numbers. To call the Jewish people as occupiers is utter stupidity. The longest occupation story in the region of modern day Israel is that of Arabs, they arrived during the Islamic conquest and continued to stay there to this day. The Israel-Palestinian region's boundaries and populations were fluid over centuries, influenced by various empires and migrating peoples. The concept of fixed national boundaries is relatively modern and it does not fully apply to ancient medieval periods and empires.
