[Story] : When Johnny Comes Marching Home (sometimes "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again") is a popular song from the American Civil War that expressed people's longing for the return of their friends and relatives who were fighting in the war.

Did anyone notice the tank is named Fury
Warlords 85 now that you mention it yeah I see it
On the barrel you can just barely make it out
Abisai Ruiz
The variant on screen is not the m4a3 but a m4 or m4a4, pretty hard to tell
Fury or firefly I really don't know what one they were going for
Guys that’s a Sherman Firefly.
I am listening to this on July 4th
The red army is strongest
Lenin so young the battle going again

I love the duality of this song. It can be both a galant march to victory at the outset of war, or a lamenting mother's cry in sarcasm when she gets that letter.
Chris Bolland its actually based off a way older Irish song about this girl who is upset about the fact that he’s been completely fucked up by an unnamed war. Look up johnny I hardly knew ya, but beware there are some rock versions that aren’t great.
@@latinman1736 yeah I've heard that original song as well, but to me this one hits harder somehow. To me it's the reaction that the girl thought she'd give when her conquering hero came home, but Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya is the real reaction. She disowns and is disgusted by him. War fucks shit up.
Chris Bolland Johnny I Hardly knew Ya is not older that When Johnie Comes Marching Home.
This song was actually written in 1863 during the us civil war by Patrick Gilmore supposedly he wrote based on an american drinking song from the same time period
@@latinman1736 Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya came after When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
My literal great grandpa, a Panzergrenadier officer( 105 yrs old) said that the American infantry soldiers he captured sang this and taught he and his men this song
How is your great grandpa? He is ok?
@@unionjack007 He has perished many years ago. He died when he was 105 years old.
く(T T) respect his honor to Panzer ...
Your great grandpa may have fought for a bad leader seeking pain for the world, he is still a great soldier, since a soldier always and always follows orders without question.
@@thegeneral459 Actually, he dismissed a couple of orders when he was a young oberleutnant, such as when his superiors told him to execute Polish POWs. Instead, he took them prisoners and handed them over to the POW camps. He also refused to execute civilians deemed "sabatogeurs." He somehow rose the ranks into a oberst by 1945. Basically, if ur interested, my grandpa joined the German Wehrmacht in 1939, just in time for Poland. He fought there as a common infantry soldier. Later, he decided he wanted to be a Panzerman. He wanted to be a driver, so he started training in a Panzer III for the Russian invasion. In 1942, after the beginning of operation Barbarossa, he later decided to be a gunner in a sdkfz half track. He was apparently very brave, but also ruthless. He shamefully admitted he killed a surrendering Soviet officer, after witnessing his friend and one of the troopers in the half track get killed by this officer's troops(he says that this wasn't the officer's fault, but he was being an idiot for committing war crime). He also tried his best not to participate and kill civilians in firing squads, but sometimes when SS men or goody-two shoes officers were present, he had to carry them out. He and his men did not enjoy it since they had wives and family at home, and the ppl they killed reminded them of them. However, he hated the Soviets for not giving up. But, when he saw the treatment of Soviet POWs in German camps, he felt sorry for them, and started to detest the SS. "The SS were young men, who would waste ammunition, supplies and men for very little accomplishment. They are filthy sons of bitches who show no mercy to little kids, animals and women, though not all of them were monsters" is what my grandpa had to say about them, or at least close to what he said. In 1944, my grandpa rose the ranks to become a panzergrenadier major, and was war-hardened. He would plan out attacks, but the low morale and the lack of supplies would result in constant loss. In late 1944, he'd come back to Germany, and by then, he heard what happened to Germans who surrendered to Soviets. He wanted to surrender to the US or British. The general in charge probably suspected of gramps wanting to surrender, so he made him colonel, hoping this would boost his morale. It didn't, and they both knew the war was about to end. Later on, he, 3 or 4 panzergrenadier privates, 6 common infantrymen, a wehrmacht officer and a downed luftwaffe pilot trekked west and somehow surrendered to a group of US patrol men on bikes. He had to stay in USA until 1949 when he was brought back. He sold his panzer wrap and beret for 600 buck to a local collector, but kept his luger, and his panzergrenadier officer uniform and gears. It's pretty cool having known him. I dearly miss him and want him back in my life. He passed on 2009, when I was 15. He was one of the best friends I had.
Johnny wont come back home ,he died in Normandy.
@Drake Rehmeyer oh scheiße johny was a good boi

The "All-Stars University" represents the United Nations (UN) in the real world. The song When Johnny Comes Marching Home is an American song, for this reason in the picture there is the saunders university. Image songs are linked to the transposition in the real world of anime schools, for example Pravda = Russia and communism or Kuromoromine = Germany ecc.
Im guessing you saw my comment but still. Amazing vid!
Dolly☺️👍
Pairs well with "Jonny I Hardly Knew Ye"
What song would the UN have?
@JEROD OWEN they do. All-stars also uses American tanks, cause they are UN forces but the Art depicts Saunders so it is all good
I love how this song touches on both the joy and sadness of a family member coming home from war. How at one point he could be in the car stepping out to hug his sister, or in a reverse of the situation the same sister could be hugging her family tears streaming down her face as the hearse pulls into the cemetery.
that or how people will feel that this war was useless, and are angry at the soldiers for going out to fight. Shedding 'unneeded' blood, taking it out on the Young man who watched his friend's head explode after just having a meal with him.
A lot of people can be inconsiderate.
Actually, it's about Johnny coming home in a box... he's dead despite all the fanfare.
N9
That’s dark
Not sure that’s correct.
@@jamesharding3459 seems about right if you consider that this was sung during the civil war in America and Johnny could mean Johnny red (a term used for the confederate soldiers)
@@thomassilva9892 Considering it talks about victory parades and victory and the confederate states lost, id guess not. John/Johnny are common names like John Doe. It's just a place holder name you could associate with and change to your own family member or someone.

The tank may be fury in name but not in design. at first glance it appears to be a standard American M4A3 76(w) Sherman medium tank followed by a M4A1 75 Sherman but after closer examination of both you may notice a few historical inaccuracies additionally I believe that this is a M4A3 because of the Bogie VVSS suspension by the time the M4A4 was entering production they were mostly coming with the HVSS suspension
#1: muzzle break of most probably a panther but possibly a tiger, konix tiger or one of their respective TD's as opposed to the standard 76mm HVap A.T. gun of the Sherman
#2: lack of AA .50 caliber heavy MG's mounted on spindles on the top rear of both tank turrets
#3: (not a proper discrepancy) the 2 square or rectangular protrusions from the top of the upper glassy of both tanks are out of proportion to the vehicles they are far wider on actual vehicles
#4: (hull machine guns) the M4A3's appears to be a German MG32 or 34; while the M4A1 appears to have a large hole in place of a hull mg
#5: (tracks) on the rear of the M4A3 the gap's between track links is substantially to large and the front track pads are missing the iconic "V" on the outside of the pads
#6: the gun travel lock of the M4A1 is down, the hinges of the travel lock only allowed movement from vertical to the top of the hull, they didn't fold down and the M4A3's lock is to shot for the vehicle a real one would have been longer not by much but still longer and both have far to thin support arms.
Neeeeeeeeeeeerd
And more than a year after, there are the lyrics:
When Johnny comes marching home
When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then, Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer, the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
That joyful day when Johnny comes marching home
Get ready for the Jubilee, Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll celebrate the victory, Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll all join in the big parade
And let the soldier have his day
That joyful day when Johnny comes marching home
America, America, when Johnny comes marching home
America, America, when Johnny comes marching home
We'll sound the horns and beat the drums
Salute them for a job well done
That joyful day when Johnny comes marching home
The old church bell will ring with joy, Hurrah! Hurrah!
To welcome home our girls and boys, Hurrah! Hurrah!
Cause Janey too has done her best
She's fought as hard as all the rest
She'll march along when Johnny comes marching home
When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah Hurrah
We'll give him a hearty welcome then, Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer, the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
That joyful day when Johnny comes marching home
Twill be so good to have 'em home
They've been so far and gone so long
What a joyful day when Johnny comes marching home
America, America, when Johnny comes marching home
America, America, when Janey comes marching home
We'll sound the horns and beat the drums
Salute them for a job well done
That joyful day when Johnny comes marching home
That joyful day when... Johnny comes marching home
Welcome home Johnny...

A doleful damsel I heard cry
Johnny I hardly knew ye
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums
The enemy nearly slew ye
Oh darling dear, ye look so queer
Johnny I hardly knew ye
Where are the eyes that looked so mild, hurroo, hurroo
Where are the eyes that looked so mild, hurroo, hurroo
Where are the eyes that looked so mild
When my poor heart you first beguiled
Why did ye run from me and the child
Oh Johnny, I hardly knew ye
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums
The enemy nearly slew ye
Oh darling dear, ye look so queer
Johnny I hardly knew ye
Where are the legs we looked you run, hurroo, hurroo
Where are the legs we looked you run, hurroo, hurroo
Where are the legs that looked you run
But first you went to carry a gun
Indeed your dancing days are done
Oh Johnny, I hardly knew ye
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums
The enemy nearly slew ye
Oh darling dear, ye look so queer

Ye haven't an arm, ye haven't a leg, hurroo, hurroo
Ye haven't an arm, ye haven't a leg
Ye're an armless, boneless, chickenless egg
You'll have to be left with a bowl out to beg
Oh Johnny I hardly knew ye
I'm happy for to see ye home, hurroo, hurroo
I'm happy for to see ye home, hurroo, hurroo
I'm happy for to see ye home
All from the island of sulloon
So low in flesh, so high in bone
Oh Johnny I hardly knew ye
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums, hurroo, hurroo
With your drums and guns and guns and drums
The enemy never slew ye
Oh darling dear, ye look so queer
Johnny I hardly knew ye
I'm 90% sure this is the original Irish version but like Yankee doodle when Americans get a hand of a good song they make it one of theirs
@@jadenlawrence1934 Not to mention make an anti-war song into a pro-war one.
If this is a song for the Union, why do the singers have a southern accent?
This does sound like someone messed around with a recording from Dolly Parton. However it was common during the Civil War for songs to start on one side and be adopted by the other, albeit with some modification. Thanks to the Irish this started as a Union song but John is a very common name so it isn't too far fetched to assume some southern troops adopted this tune.
We are all Americans
We don’t hate our yankee brothers, we died on different sides. But we are brothers

are you talking about a Tv character?
Harold Keith Johnson, he was a soldier, and he did a nice career, he gets imprisoned in Japan and then to the Philippines, he fight to WW2, to Vietnam, and Korean War, we should remember this man, this soldier who fight the most important wars in the history, this is the "johnny" the song is talking.
Actually, the "Johnny" the song is talking about are Union soldiers during the American Civil War.
