Hi Baldy, absolutely 1000000% spot on!!!! I got this as part of the 2 keg pack with the ceramic mug and the Franki Kellerbier (which was fantastic). Must admit I wasn't too kean myself on the first few pints and found it almost abit to...well sickly. Came back to it the next day and 3 pints emptier and it seemed to have lost that Edge!!! Having done the keg, I didn't hate it, nor to be fair though would I be dying to try it again, nor if I had it as an option in the pub would I select it (unless the rest of the beers were the usual Carling filth). You are right it does have a Newcy brown vibe to it. Interesting they called it a Marzen as for me it's absolutely nothing like a Marzen beer at all!!!
Its good to see Camden trying to expand there range, admittedly though with mixed success. I don't mind the pale, hated the ipa, can tolerate the Helles, don't get me started on that strawberry abomination and that pina colada thing was one of only a few cans where i had to flush it as no one would take it!!!!
Hopefully 2024 will see some great euro offerings return, Nd I'd like to see more Tiny Rebel back on the menu!!
    Have a great one Baldy

I couldn't make my mind up with this one. I thought it was just OK. You are right in saying that it has a place on the machine though because it is a bit different. I would order it again but it would have to be on offer. Don't think I would pay full price for it. Cheers 🍻

Class as ever baldy. Completely agree with you on it. I would have given it same score, definitely got better the more i had of it though.
Think shawarma is like tandoori chicken on a naan with like salad etc, well thats what it was like when i had one. i think these morrisons max strong rip offs do pretty well with resemblin their flavours, and tha crunch is spot on

I gotta try this one with big hopes. I didn't like any of the camden kegs yet. The ipa was the worst IMHO.

    Hi Baldy
A really good review on a different beer than is something totally different to what we’ve seen on PD.
A Marzen beer is usually brewed in March (hence the name) and is usually kept for Oktoberfest. Most Festbiers used to be Marzen’s used to be festbiers but this has changed in modern times especially with commercial brewing.
There is still a few Marzen style beers such as Ayinger Märzen and
Rothaus Märzen but most Oktoberfest fest beers are not just classified as “festbiers” and are now just stronger ABV versions of their standard beers.
As for this Camden Marzen it’s. Been about before in bottle a few years ago and it seems PD have wanted it reviving for Perfect draft customers. I’ve had a few kegs of it and I do think it’s not too bad although it’s definitely not the best keg on the PD.
For me It’s sweet on the initial taste with caramel and a good malt backbone with a hint of crusty bread and the caramel runnin through from the initial taste, it finishes with a bitter slightly roasty finish. It’s got a good medium body and good carbonation even though the mouthfeel is towards the softer side. The closest comparison of anything for it I think would be Cruzcampo Gran Reserva on Sub with it being a “100% malt lager”.
I can see the comparison between to “Newky Brown” you made but the Camden lacks the nuttiness that a brown ale should have but let’s be honest Newky Brown has been changed so much it’s no longer the beer it used to be (along with lots of other beers).
If Perfecf Draft had got the timing right this would have been classified as “a 3rd Festbier” but the good thing to come out of its late release seems to be that it’s going to be a permanent release (for now).
    Have a good weekend.
    Joff 👍👍🍺🍺

Glad someone else could see the newky brown comparison! But like you say, that's nowhere near like it used to be!
      Hope you're well! 👍🍻

1:32 a pyramid of 5? are you sure baldy? :D Anyway, good review! this is a keg i skipped, not because it's from the UK but just not that impressed with Camden Town brewery in general tbh.
As for the hate on UK brewed stuff, I think it needs to be understood that the UK has some amazing breweries! However!! recreating a 600 year old Belgium brewery in South Wales overnight and expecting the beer to taste anything like the same ( Stella ) is nothing short of comedic.
If i ran that brewery in Leuven, and I believed UK Perfect Drafts' claim that it now 'taste's better and fresher than ever' I would bulldoze the entire site in Belgium and retire. 600 years of brewing experience and any old bunch of clowns with the recipe can knock out the same stuff?? Many breweries have tried and failed to accurately replicate continental lagers here, and that's not that we don't have any good breweries here, it's just hard to copy a beer! you just end up creating a new beer! In this case, it's a new beer with a Stella label slapped on it. Doesn't make it Stella though.
Not a big fan of any iteration of Stella anyway tbh but I just worry that they will be producing more and more of the lagers in the UK under license and that's not good. If that happens I will import the kegs instead.

Shwarma’s are Arabian not Indian. They are the Arab equivalent of a kabab or Gyro. It’s spiced meat (mainly include cumin, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric/paprika) with salad on an uneven flatbread and then rolled into a cone with a toumie sauce (similar to garlic mayonnaise but a little more tart).
