You know, Legend, i keep getting the impression the Disaster Battles you get are mostly resolved successfully by simply dragging out the battle and avoiding a full-on confrontation. I do not mean that as a complaint, more a neutral observation. Mostly the issue is that the enemy has an army geared way more to deliver massive amounts of damage in a direct manner while the player has one that can, in total, do MORE damage but takes LONGER for it to do so, so giving it the time it needs is key to the fight. Healing and/or Health Regen also counts into it.
I think that's correct and that it is a consequence of army composition and game bias. You could build a balanced army, but the it would be able to deliver less damage (with the benefit of holding longer, usually), however, especially on legendary, you are often in a situation where you're not going to hold either way, and you need large damage potential to get rid of all the enemies. Luckily, you can rely on the (lack of) AI to compensate for your lack of holding power, through tactics or cheese. PvP might have a bad rep amongst campaign players, but the armies you see there are way more balanced, owing to the fact that there's no dumb AI with larger numbers, but another human with an equal value army. The game would be totally different if it had a good AI instead of AI cheats.
@@arthanor9631 Or a requirement for certain unit types to be present in the army to force the kind of playing the game has on the table top, but then there would be little sense to make it real time in the first place. Long before TWWH there were other Warhammer Fantasy games, i played "Mark of Chaos" a lot, it was great. but that game already lend itself to using one particularly powerful unit. And that is the biggest difference between the video games and the table top, you can´t micromanage the way you can in a turn-based game unless you abuse the Pause function to the point of ridiculousness, something impossible in Hardcore as there is no pausing.
If you play defensive or gunpowder factions the AI feels like it wants to hit you hard and fast as possible and as legend has said before if you can drag it out past 5 minutes it kinda bugs out and gets really slow and derpy
@@arthanor9631Making a "good AI" is extremely hard. You have to remember, it's just an Algorithm. It's never going to actually be proficient because that's just not how it works. It will always be limited because it relies on "if this, do this". They have to use cheats, because that's how Programming works. Everything in it is "If this and that, then do this. Else, do this." It will always have to rely on Values that are already set. That's why we can never have actual AI. We will never see an actual Intelligence. Basic Programming and Computer Science. Everything has to be extremely specific. That is why it is possible to break any AI by thinking outside the box...because everything with the AI is based on neat little boxes because it has to be.
Everything in Programming is based on accessing specific little boxes. It's all a huge grid array of stored variables. AI is incapable, and always will be, of doing anything other than checking the current situation and accessing "Boxes" in the Array according to the situation. That's why "Cheese" even exists...because if you do something that Contradicts the programming, the AI cannot react properly to it.
I have the same audio issue with Steam Tanks since the latest patch. It will get worse the longer the battle goes on. One of their audio files seems to be defective and messing with the audio processing or memory. Also happens with the Engineer lord on Steam Tank, so it's not the Emperor's Wrath special ability.
The AI is frustratingly good at exploiting stupid mechanics in ways not possible for human players. Good example would be how easily AI can pull through units with less mass because it can afford to order it to move 10 times a second constantly, which obviously the player can't. This is also how they avoid clumping and slowing down when chasing single entities with cav - constantly ordering to move like 20 meters in front of it, adjusting the order as soon as you adjust yours. You can check it by trying to wiggle your single entity while it's about to be boxed in - AI cav unit will wiggle along like a flock of geese. It really takes me out of it - AI lacks understanding of tactical situations, it has several attack patterns like chess debuts programmed into it, and then it tries to win by instantly reacting to anything player does and choosing actions that lead to worst possible outcome for the player in a 1 unit vs 1 unit situation.
I would never have been able to figure this game out without you. Finishing my second campaign now. 1st campaign: Ikit Claw 2nd campaign: Drazhoath the Ashen 3rd campaign: ??? Anyone give me some suggestions. I have every DLC except the two newest dlc drops (new khorne dlc and the dlc that dropped with malakai)
First of all, Malakai is AMAZING. One of the most fun campaigns in the game IMO. Look into getting him, since he also provides some "Understood, captain, erasing that direction" gameplay like Ikit and Chorfs do. His starting position is moderately tough but he has more than enough tools to deal with his problems. Second of all, if you dont want to try Malakai, Arbaal is pretty fun because Khorne is broken as can be and Skarsnik is also very fun. Balthasar Gelt is the most broken empire faction by far, cheese or no cheese.

I swear I had two sets of restocks on a gunnery wight using a engineer's knapsack not too long ago. Maybe it works for them? Or, they patched it? Edit: just checked and it's because the gunnery wight restock is called "more powder" and that lets it stack. Should have figured.
Good job, the only downside is now this random master engineer is Emperor of Men for lore reason. Also if the sound issue happens again, please just mute all sounds till the end of the battle.

The sound breakup happens on these large battles once you start popping spells. Just a gross negligence in terms of programming on CA's part. The only way to fix it is to stop moving the camera. Just such garbage it's unreal.
You could win this battle just with Gotrek&Felix and a levelled up life wizard. Although thinking about it. having two life wizards would make it a breeze. Fire magic is sadly just a meme in WH3, pretty much useless compared to other magics, probably because it was great in WH1&2. The only thing to consider would be your overall magic cap which obviously scales with characters but I've had gelt with over 500 and even against 4 armies I rarely use more than 200. The Empires true strength is in magic, it's weird that so many people playing don't realise that. Then again, the Empire is so versitile you can do almost what you like with army compositions.
