  • Today at Working Horses with Jim, we get some more fall plowing done. I try rotating the horses around for the best fit.
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

I only saw a sulky plow used a couple times. I was amazed the horses did the walking. Grandpa and my dad used a walking plow. Guess maybe that's why I enjoy.walking. When I was younger, I walked barefoot behind picking up fishing worms and whatever else I might find. Rather be doing that now, rather than voting! Lol

Jim, I am a certified journeyman farrier as well. I couldn't be exact, however it appeared as though your outside black was short strided on his left rear. Have a look tomorrow. Maybe I shouldn't say anything. Don't mean to be cheeky. I'm like the old cobbler. First thing I notice is the feet. I've studied horses from the ground up. Wyoming Jim

That looks really perfect to me. I find your horses work very well. I said it before, I envy you for your level fields. I can't even do any fall plowing anymore on our hilly ground due to the risk of soil erosion with heavy rains. I plow with a 16 inch trailer plow behind the forecart with my team of two heavy Percherons since it is easier for me to get on the forecart than climb on a regular riding plow.
Thank you for sharing all of that with us.
