- In this Drum Lesson I will show you the train beat. It is not only one of the most used grooves in country music, it is also a great exercise for your coordination and your Moeller Technique.

Hi Michi - just came across this which although not quite a train beat sees the drummer play a standard jazz ride (swing) pattern on the snare whilst additionally playing light rudiments/figures on sd. He alternates with double time back beat on cymbals & adds a few drags to fill spaces which reinforce the downbeats. I think it’s a nice example of intuitive drumming, very idiosyncratic with a feel that doesn’t lend easily to notation. Your viewers could borrow this strategy to compliment their train beat as this adds variety without compromising the main groove.😀 Hope you enjoy! ruclips.net/video/wG0fS4DoGUc/видео.html
Very cool.. I am a huge Johnny Cash fan!!! I'll pin this comment to the top, so others see and enjoy it as well!
It's...it's...a Ballroom Blitz!!! Terrific variant of this beat also on the B. Bumble and the Stingers Nut Rocker. Another excellent video, Sir.
Are you ready Steve?
Really like this groove . Thanks for showing us the correct way to learn it and play it. I like the variations each one changes the feel of it. And your right you hear this beat all the time and it’s definitely time to learn it . Thanks as always good stuff from you !!!
Hey Gary, that's definitely one every drummer needs in his arsenal.. Thanks for stopping by!
Really country is a really tasty genre😂 i wish i’d like to see more videos related to country drumming
That's what I thought when I made this video ;-)
Great lesson! It took me a while to get the feel of this back when I learned it originally....I was used to a straight up rock beat, lol
haha, I know that feeling. The pattern isn't hard at all, but nailing the feeling is!
When the video came on and I heard his German(?) accent, I snickered. What does this German guy know about country music? But he showed me! Abonniert!
Thank you for exposing me to genres I would otherwise probably not learn. Love the video!
I'm not a drummer but needed to learn this for a track I'm doing. Fantastic lesson very easy to follow for a none drummer. Thanks man best wishes from Liverpool uk
This is a super good quality lesson! I've been researching on train beats, watched quite a few videos and no one broke it down so well. I really appreciated the part where you show "what you want to think when playing this", i.e. how your arms "prepare" for the Moeller movements 🙏
Very good job
Thanks a lot!
Once again - played with great feel & strong technique. With the 2 variations it shows the ways in which a small change can become a big change. Most drummers will get a working gig mastering these concepts rather than closing space with 32nd note fills! 😀👍
Thank you so much, Terry! You are absolutely right.. These small changes go a long way and are so much cooler than high speed chops!
very nice explanation with variation......thnx
thanks for watching!
@@DailyDrumLesson thnx
Good job. Thank you.
Thank you for watching :)
Good lessons thank you .
Thank you very much!
Thanks to help us to increase our potential!!! Appreciate.
Thanks for watching and your constant support, Fabien!
Thank you!
you are welcome!
This is a cool groove just changing the accents changed the feel of the groove.
Hey bro,
Thanks for video.
My pleasure, bro!
Thanks Man! I am a Brazilian Guitar Player and you help me a lot on my Production Job!!!!
Awsome!
Wie immer Top. Besten Dank
Danke dir!
Hey Michi! Interesting lesson, I gotta try it! I really like the paradiddle inversion version, it reminded me right away of The Sweet and their song Ballroom Blitz. Thanks! I hope the neighbours like country beats ... :)
I didn't listen to Ballroom Blitz in years.. Added it to my playlist right away!
"What do my neighbours like?" is something every drummer should consider .. haha
Nice beat even for church songs, i should try to play it, i think:)))
Yeah, go and get it! :D
Wow man, what a killer breakdown! Thank you!
😦 I’m freaked out right now Michi... I just watched Toy Story 4 and I heard this beat in it at some point. I’m a beginner drummer and I thought to myself ‘I wonder what that beat is called? I hear it quite a lot and I should probably learn it but I’m not sure what to search for’. A few hours later you upload this video! I really appreciate your channel man.
Hey Lawrence, that is so great to hear. Really glad I could help you! :D
Great, thank you for sharing!
wow!
Thanks Tim!
thanks a lot
Great lesson.
Bravissimo
the paradiddle part made me go hmm. gotta try this.
That's my favorite as well!
I like this one. I'm not a fan of country music, even a little bit, except for a few classics, but I can hear a lot of potential in this for some fast paced, fun style grooves. I love that you're so frequently tackling varied genre's, it gives me lots of ideas!
You can definitely use this groove in other genres as well, or just use it as an exercise.
I am having a lot of fun doing these videos about grooves from different genres.. Lets see what is next :-)
Not only country. Also for skiffle
cool
Cool!!🤘👽🤘
Your brilliant 👍
Thanks, Kevin ;-)
Fantastic lesson, I love how you break everything down and simplify it. One question though, is there any benefit of using the paradiddle inversion over the single strokes?
Not really, it is just for the looks ;-)
Great lesson. If I'm not mistaken, I think Keith Moon uses the first version of the train beat under the violin at the end of Baba O'Riley. His BPM are at a rate far too high for my abilities, but I believe it's a train beat if you break it down.
Super bien explicado!
Sina-Drums used this technique in her latest video BTO's You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet and I asked her how she did it. To let me know she gave me your link. I'll probably watch the video a few more times to better understand it. :)
Michi thanks very great lesson...how to suggest me to study the paradidle like a train beat for almost an amateur like me? I can play the normal train. Eat but it is hard to play this like a paradidle
Really take your time and take it to the pad. Just get comfortable with the paradiddle inversion before you try to add the feet. This thing isn't easy!
So, I'm a little confused by your explanation. Shouldn't the accents fall on the two and four, not the "AND" of each beat?
Hey can I ask what kind of train beat they were using in devil went down to Georgia
Holy Shit I did it
go slower lol
