Some may say boost is dead but what’s fact and works for me is boost is consistent. You nailed it on that. The Ultraboost may not be everyone’s tea but like you i find boost to be a great midsole material for colder weather. My go to shoe when it’s cold and dry out is the UB 19 or 20 in my stable along with the Triumph 17. The TPU material is far superior in retaining chemical properties and characteristic than say EVA in the cold. My other long distance run shoes with EVA are just terrible and flat I find in the cold. I reckon the prime knit materials in the UB is great for balancing warmth and breathability in winter as well. Ultraboost are great daily wear for me in spring and summer but runners for me in Fall and Winter. If the latest SolarBoost is anything like the 2019 model I got, you will be in for a treat. Balance cushion for the long haul but one can push it to tempo pace. It’s not as mushy in the midsole like the OG Ultraboost. I think the SolarBoost has one of the better uppers in Adidas run shoes, far better than primeknit, but it can be a tad warm. I think what can be the ultimate winter road running shoe may be the Ultraboost Winter Ready edition. It’s a steep $190 in US but will try to find on clearance for next season.

But I will need to replace the adizeroPro with something I can also use in colder temperatures (the upper). The UB21 or SB3 (with, maybe, the SL20.2 for warmer days) may be just what the spirit animal ordered. These heaver BOOST shoes have the added benefit of doubling as a slight build anchor on those especially windy days 😉 So many people only seem to be bothered by the heft of the UB but completely ignore big'uns from other shoemakers. There is more to a shoe than weight, and savvy runners seem to be speaking to it lately. This is a fairly radical departure from its predecessors without losing the spirit of what came before it. I'll be honest the only issue I have with the Ultraboost is the heel drop. If it was an 8 or 9mm I would be jumping with joy but 12 is too harsh in my personal opinion.
Professor, while I like many Adidas models for running, the UB is so heeeavy. I do like their color options and enjoy the previous model(s) for long walks (off short piers).
Yep! Here a user of the new Solar boost 3. I guess less amount of boost than the Ultra one and lighter. The LEP seems to be very similar and for me a bit too exposed to run on gravel or cross bc as you well said, one hears the little rocks crunching below, prolly they are rather uniquely made for tarmac 🤷🏻♂️ The biggest difference between both, Solar and Ultra might be the propulsion rails I don’t think UB has it whilst the Solar do has a rail and eva topsole that fortunately changed the game of the shoe completely. 😜
Another great reviews! I tested the UB uncaged, UB S&L, UB 19 & UB PB... Still the midsole is kind of too firm. I still prefer LSD with 1080v10 and the ASICS Glideride more. Hmmm... UB 21? Still considering... Buy definitely will go for 1080v11 and the ASICS Glideride 2
@@crucialbigmac7493 I ended up not using the 21’s to run in. Maybe I need to break them in more, but I just found them too heavy. I'm assuming you meant the solar boost 3 not the solar boost 13? I've been running in the solar boosts for years and I'm unsure of what my next adidas shoe will be. The UB 21 seems like a good contender but they didn't really used to be running shoes. The solarboost 3 came out of nowhere but I'm pretty sure that will be my next shoe!
In answer to your question I ordered the solar boost 3 but sent it straight back, cushioning was SO firm for a daily trainer and just felt miles behind what all of the other brands are offering when it comes to their daily trainers.
@@geronim042 Hey Hubert, my daily trainers of the last year or so are 1080 v10s, Infinity React, Triumph 17 and Peg 37s - these felt far firmer than all. Maybe boost just isn't for me, different strokes for different folks!
The outsole appears to be a bit of a letdown. One of the strengths of Boost shoes is that you could use them on gravel paths or buffed trails. The outsole pattern in the UB20 seems to provide less grip and also collects pebbles, which over long runs is an annoyance for sure. Overall, the UB21 seems like a downgrade in my book. Adidas should have focused on improving the lockdown (which they appear to have done to be fair), instead of adding more boost and changing the outsole pattern. BTW, the lockdown was decent for me on the UB20 but still could be better at the heel. Note, I do have wide feet, so I could fill the shoe better than one with regular feet which might have contributed to me having a better lockdown feel.
My Old Man's a Dustman, absolute classic. You really must check out The Lion and Albert a song by Stanley Holloway, unless of course you're familiar with it, it'll make you chuckle.
I have been running in the Ultraboost 20 and noticed that my lower heel started to ache. I use to run in the Nike Pegasus but I decided to give the Ultraboost a try because I really like what Adidas stands for with their attempt to combat ocean plastics. Would you say that the Ultraboost 21 feels better than the 20? I had to switch to my Pegs yesterday because I really couldn't take the heel pain anymore. I feel that it might have something to do with the plastic heel support that Adidas used in the 20 but I am not sure.
After years of running in the Supernova series I was sad when they were pulled from the lineup. The Solar Boost has been my go to long run shoe since its inception but Ive never been totally in love with it. It feels very flat and "slappy" for a lack of a better way to put it and a bit thin in the forefoot but Ive adapted. The Ultraboost always seemed more of a fashion shoe to me and that coupled with the price Ive avoided it.
So weird how shoe companies keep changing the midsoles without really saying anything. Adidas is looking pretty solid now with ub 21, boston, and adios adizero pro. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the $35 sl20s the other day.
How is the heel lock down in the Adidas Ultraboost? I have quite a narrow foot and I feel it sliding sideways in my Hoka Cliftons, especially when the road is slanted. Looking for a new shoe for the longer runs.
Good lock. It’s a well fitting shoe and one that was enjoyable on the half distance long run. Hokas have too much upper in my size for a standard width foot. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Running most of my easy / steady miles in them currently and must confess that they are really good. Good resilient cushion with nice support. Obviously a pair of Boston will make you feel like you’re flying afterwards.
I still think Adidas should have distributed the extra 6% of boost around the forefoot area/within the LEP torsion system to even things out. It's like the shoe is going to cause users to dive with so much rubber in the heel.
I ran in ultraboost all the time. Heavy? No big deal. Running just to keep me fit. I do football and futsal a lot. Yeah running just part time. Average pace 5 to 6. 5k PB 26mins ish.. 10k PB 54mins ish..
@@EDDBUD Pureboost Go and Senseboost Go are soft too. Ran in those. Pureboost, Pureboost RBL, Pureboost DPR, Ultraboost Uncaged, all good to run in. Don't understand the hates though.
I liked this video but I did it for the Beast only. My suede boots are lighter than these, no joke. 🤓 I've got nothing against Adidas, tempo 9 is (there's still some life in them after two years and 700+ k) one of my favourite pair of shoes ever, but almost 400 gr for a running shoe is a deal breaker for me.
I just love" the satisfied Beast." My cat loves to smell my running shoes and get her back rubbed when I come in for a run. Can your beloved Beast top that for involvement? Please use Beast more in your videos.
Lonnie Donegan "mmm" ! Try "Slipknot", a similar melodic marriage of comforting folk and blues mixed with a touch of satanic murderous sadomasochistic death cult vibe, great to relax too after a long shift in the abattoir or after a visit from the mother in-law .
Had some EB2. Meh. Got caught up in the hype. Sold the UB19 after one run. Got these yesterday. Last chance for adidas. If this one sucks, then they're gone forever.
That is strange the shoe looks like it’s stuck in a pre colour tv era, have you been experimenting with quantum mechanics & space-time warping, ha;-)..
I still think the 19 is the best shoe in the lineup. Apart from some cooler design choices in the 20, they've ended up just a casual shoe for me, they're just less "free" than previous models, too fitted. At £160 I'm holding off trying the 21, especially as I'm hearing they might be just as heavy... most reviews say they are best for short runs. I've just bought another 19 for £80

Yes my bad. Not sure where I got the extra 1 from! 🤦🏻♂️😂
In answer to your question I ordered the solar boost 3 but sent it straight back, cushioning was SO firm for a daily trainer and just felt miles behind what all of the other brands are offering when it comes to their daily trainers.
Interesting I find the sb3 quite nice and well cushioned. What are you comparing them to by curiosity ?
Only the stones are an issue really. :)
Excited to try out those pumas.
Coming soon! :)
Are you gonna do a review on hoka carbon x2 soon as your recent polls suggest?
5 mins and it should be live ;)
Your cat is adorable Bro
It’s in a good mood today 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
My Old Man's a Dustman, absolute classic. You really must check out The Lion and Albert a song by Stanley Holloway, unless of course you're familiar with it, it'll make you chuckle.
Will listen right now! 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Hi Ed does this fit to size or up or Down a size .?
Another great review, thanks ED. Adidas are on a roll
I enjoyed these today, though it was tough going in unpleasant conditions. The hands were frozen by the end. :)
It just comes yesterday! You already know is the bes!!!!! Is this add four them?
No ad, i bought them with my own funds. :)
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Edd, UB 21 or invisible zoom x?
First time watching your vid, but you kinda sound like the rock guy from the Thor movies lmao
Thanks! I like that dude 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Excellent review
Many thanks Owen. I always appreciate you tuning in 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
This is a bit of topic, but what microphone are you using? Your voice sounds like the one of an angel!
Blimey. Thanks! It’s a Rode camera mic. Condenser type. With some old vintage valve outboard gear to warm it up a little. 😉
Solar boost my long run super comfort5shoe
Testing it soon :)
I got the UB 20s. I went for 6 miles and it only felt heavy when I tried to sprint.
Yes not for sprints but for other stuff it’s a ok. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
I use solarboost 19s what's the edd Budd verdict on them??
Coming soon John :)
Solar boost 3 seems like a better option?
They are in my shopping basket :)
Ultraboost some of the most soft midsoles going.
I've got nothing against Adidas, tempo 9 is (there's still some life in them after two years and 700+ k) one of my favourite pair of shoes ever, but almost 400 gr for a running shoe is a deal breaker for me.
I liked white a lot but this is exactly why I grabbed black instead.
Mine are cloud grey now. 🤦🏻♂️😂
Addias show with nike socks.. you bad 👦 boy.. off to the headmaster you must go!! Lol 😆 🤣 😂
You know me. I’m the james Dean of running. 🤣👍🏼
They do look 🔥 in either their proper colour or battleship grey😂.
The more I wear them the darker the upper gets! 😂
Do you recomend it to longer runs? 30 kms or more?
Personally no, i would opt for something a bit lighter.
@@EDDBUD Thanks for the replay, i guess i will try antoher brand then
I hate stones in shoes! Spending ages scuffing the outsole as you run 😩
Quite an issue for this one. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Hello Sir,please review more Asics shoes. Thank you!
Will do, very few of the new models available here in the uk 👍🏼🏃🏻♂️😊
Thanks Sir 👍🏻
Minus -20 Fahrenheit is minus 28.889 degree Celsius. So we can probably be confident they mean -20 Celsius.:-)..
I think you have it right :)
If i am a beginner runner (true beginner), is this shoe suitable for me ?
There are many a lighter option available though I hear many heavier set runners enjoying the boost midsole. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Given you 1,000th like. Know how to stop RUBBING front he plastic lace support on the INSIDE of your foot?
Wasn’t an issue for me on those.
Goat
👍🏼
Is the tie box wider than the infinity react 2?
No a more sleek toebox profile here.
Beast sighting!
A purrrring beast too :)
I just love" the satisfied Beast." My cat loves to smell my running shoes and get her back rubbed when I come in for a run. Can your beloved Beast top that for involvement? Please use Beast more in your videos.
Beast most of the time is responsible for shoe avalanches in the studio. Her record is 12 boxes! What a noise it made :)
I dub thee Beast Mode 🐈
Is the boost similar to a carbon shoe?
The UB21 has a torsion type plate but not similar to a carbon shoe.
One of the guitar players that influenced me to get a Jazzmaster was Jim Root. ;)
Cant believe the 20s r more expensive than 21s on the internet now
So i bought 21s triple black for 120 on goat! (Shipping and tax included)
Bizarre isnt it!
@@EDDBUD yes…i think the 20s r a little better in terms of lifestyle and running but would u say it was a good decision to buy the 21s?
Had some EB2. Meh. Got caught up in the hype. Sold the UB19 after one run. Got these yesterday. Last chance for adidas. If this one sucks, then they're gone forever.
Does your chewing gum lose its flavour on the bed post over night.
Quality track 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
How long do Ultraboosts 21 last?
A long time time. The boost is very durable stuff
I gave my Solar glide to my Dad. They're too heavy. Too clunky. Too stiff.
Livestream cancelled again?
Setup and ready for 8pm uk tonight ;)
That is strange the shoe looks like it’s stuck in a pre colour tv era, have you been experimenting with quantum mechanics & space-time warping, ha;-)..
Yes like its been sent from the past in terms of the colour! I may try washing it again, though last time it just made it grey! :)
I've just bought another 19 for £80
Fair enough! The UB V4 still to me had the right balance of flex and weight. These are huge now.
Oh... u got them in Oreo colors then...
s a t i s f i e d b e a s t
The beast is never satisfied!
Sometimes I run in them just to piss people off
One of my most watched videos was the long run review of these. 😂
White shoe?? 🤣😂🤣😂. That shoe just went to road war in my eyes. It got put to the test, that’s for sure.
It was white. Now battleship grey! 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
