    Thanks for honest review of the UB21 many of the reviews are from non runners who are I assume sponsored. But adidas needs to fix the marketing message behind the Ultra boost line to properly place it as a lifestyle and not a running performance sneaker.

      Thanks for watching! You’re right about Adidas needing to do a bit of rebranding of the Ultraboost! With how good running shoes are now, the Ultraboost has no place being classed as one.

    As a beginner and relatively new to running this was and still is my entry Shoe up to date. Ive run already more than a 100 miles in them and what I can tell is they are a heavy on the feet. They also get dirty very easily because of the knit material . This Shoe gets extremely heavy and soaked when running in the rain + little stones can easily latch into the outsole design and remain there if not removed by hand. Little dirt spots and hair will gather unter the plasticpiece which holds the 3 stripes logo on the outside. Other than that the boost does a great job to minimize the landing on concrete and the shoe is also very comfortable and has a good looking design when worn as a everyday shoe.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  2 года назад

      Sounds like we have a similar opinion about this shoe! They’re great for everyday wear, but just ok for running! Are you planning on getting a different pair of running shoes?

    I'm seeing a lot of rather negative reviews. Everybody talking about the weight. Just putting them on the scale already influences perception.
    I don't notice a higher HR when running in them. Not during long runs, not during speed work. They give lots of support and comfort. I notice less little, or not so little injuries. So they provide continuity in training for me, which indirectly causes better performance over time.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  3 года назад +1

      I agree they're supportive and comfortable (except for the hot spot I had on the top of my foot), but even if you don't notice a difference in your HR, your body is working harder to move the weight. With so much direct competition (other shoes that are equally supportive and comfortable), it seems silly to expend the extra effort when running, AND drop the premium price these shoes demand.

    • @marvinberton4004
      @marvinberton4004 3 года назад +3

      @@its_Matt_B_ It's always going to be difficult to measure fatigue. Certainly for amateurs, like most of us are, who have very limited access to measuring equipment. HR depends on so many other factors, like form of the day, temperature, sleep, illness, etc.
      But I still trust inaccurate measurements more than your perception, or my own.
      It might be a challenge to create some method to objectively compare one shoe to another :). Or maybe investigate how putting a running shoe on a scale influences our perception AND/OR performance of a shoe.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  3 года назад +2

      @@marvinberton4004 Weighing a shoe is indeed an objective method to compare one shoe to another. So is price. We use those objective methods, combine it with create our own subjective method (running/feeling), to help form our perception. I agree with you though; seeing the shoe on the scale and knowing it weighs more does influence perception.

    I appreciate the review, Matt. I’m using a UB20 as my daily driver. I’m a slow, steady, overweight runner that is trying to protect my joints and add miles but not necessarily speed, and I love the 20. It’s like running on a cloud and fits my large (not just long) feet like a glove. I had heard the 21 goes a bit overboard with weight and “boost,” and it looks like I might have to look elsewhere after my 20s wear out.

    Hey Matt, I believe your arch is to high. The instep hight of the shoes It’s very shallow in that mid foot area. I tried them on a local store. It’s definitely runs a lot lighter than subjected. It felt really smooth and soft. As someone who over pronates and often can’t do max cushioned shoes as they aren’t stable enough. These where a dream. I will say 180 dollars is a lot. At that price I need s plate. It probably would do all my regular runs in it. But I am a size 10.5 so it’s gonna be closer to that high 10, low 11 oz range. As I said before the fit is very narrow,shallow and doesn’t have the highest arch’s with my flat feet it fit just right and my arch’s are pretty low.

      @its_Matt_B_  2 года назад +2

      Happy belated birthday, Volaire! Yes, I also think the UB21s are a little too heavy for running, although they are a good lifestyle shoe! I'd recommend sticking with the SL 20s, and even picking up another pair on sale; they can be found quite inexpensive now!

  • @husarz
    @husarz 2 года назад +2

    Same impression on my side. I tried to force myself to use these shoes but I just couldn't. I mean how Adidas could mess those shoes up is beyond my understanding. There's just lot of plastic that easily could be removed, both from cage as from bottom of the shoes. I'd honestly would like to try those shoes without all plastics and with some extra cushioning on the top tongue-zone. Cheers and thx for great content.
    BTW. It is sad to see Ultraboost being so bad and at the same time Terrex line having it's best times. Lately I tried Terrex Agravic Ultra (non-GTX model) and quite honestly it is better road-running shoe than Ultraboost...

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, it really is a shame about the UB. I wonder what Adidas will do next year? 🤔

    • @husarz
      @husarz 2 года назад +1

      @@its_Matt_B_ BTW, since I'm now on the subject myself - did you ever tried running in something from Terrex line? Two Ultra, Agravic Flow, Speed Ultra - these are 3 different types of high-end Terrex line (I excluded Free Hiker, obviously). In this year I think that I tried everything there is end ended up with Nike ZoomX Invincible Run (which I use for walks only), quite universal Terrex Flow GTX and Terrex Two Ultra. And believe me or not I was hugely surprised by Terrex"s performance. I have EU48 size foot, I'm tall and obviously weight some kilograms more than average person - mostly that is the reason why I need some more cushioning. ZoomX Invincible Run gave me too much of it, in the meaning that I was going with my foot too deep, up to the point where all responsiveness were missing... well maybe not all, but quite lots of it, surprisingly ZoomX wasn't that bad when I bought Nike's, it's just that after about 500km I decided to retire those shoes.
      I looked for alternatives - NB 1080p and FoamMore v3 - not responsive enough and quite uncomfortable in the ankles area, Hoka's - much the same, but completely different experience (quite nice but not responsive enough), then I went for UB 20 - too narrow in the toebox area (I have wide feet), UB 21 - here I had to go for 49⅓ 🙈 - I did liked the feeling and sock-like experience, but because of the weight and no cushioning under the tongue I felt pain each time on the top of the foot (same as you - heavy shoe hanging on a foot on not cushioned area of the shoe). I tried Vomero 15 - perfect but tongue is extremely unpleasant for your feet. Then Vomero 16 - it was like 15 model with cushioned tongue (awesome!), but they also put some plastic areas on the top of the toebox which made shoe much narrower than Vomero 15 and unpleasant for my toes - if not that I would say these are best running shoes currently on the market (absolutely undoubtedly). So me sad and tired bough (just for the sake of it) Terrex Speed Ultra (that was mistake - these were too low), Terrex Agravic Flow GTX (absolutely felt in love with those) and Terrex Two Ultra (which are just fantastic).
      And now I'm using these shoes on the roads (not trails like "normal person") and I am more happy than I ever was about the shoes. I mean how Terrex line changed within years is beyond me, I think that little redesigning (dropping some protections of the shoes) and Two Ultra could with hige success replace Ultraboost line.
      I get that I just wrote whole story of my life here, but I just luke to see what others are thinking about it. Here where I live it's almost always Hoka, Asics and Adidas UB and then me in Terrex like a crazy person... But quite honestly it isn't crazy at all - grip beyond imagination, boost like Ultraboosts, not as heavy as UB, foot locked better. I mean I get that I sound like some Terrex fanboy now... but I really feel like the line between Terrex and Ultraboost just doesn't exist now.
      Sorry for such long monologue. Just few of my thoughts. Cheers mate 😁

      Cheers for watching! The Boost has remained consistent over time and I think it’s definitely soft enough for a lifestyle shoe. The only real problem I’ve found is the laces pinching the top of my foot. LMK if you get them and check back in and tell me how they’re working for you!

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  3 года назад +1

      Tbh, I didn't re-lace the shoes before I made this video to see if that would make a difference. It may, but to me it looks like it's the upper that is bunching up a bit and putting pressure on the top of my foot, so a lacing configuration wouldn't change that much.

      Hey Stu! Thanks for watching, mate! I didn’t run in the UB19 or 20 so can’t comment. If you’re not looking for a specific Uber-expensive-race-shoe, I’d suggest looking at the Saucony Endorphin Speed. They just seem to work well for everything, and they’re fast! I have reviewed them and compared them to a count her shoes, so check out those vids if you’re interested.
