2. Wow Lion King and Cinderella were on top for a VERY long time!
Pretty Women was released by TouchStone, a studio Disney founded to produce more adult/teen content along with films that would be able to get Best Picture nominations. Other films from Touchstone include Nightmare Before Christmas and Who Frames Roger Rabbit
Pretty Woman was provided by disney
@@apotatosapling5698 but also it's a movie made by a studio owned by Disney. If it were only a movie distributed by Disney, it will not count as a Disney Movie. Yes, :-( it's a shame because it's a beautiful film. But I think it did recover its budget in subsequent theatrical rereleases, before the VHS and the DVD came out.
Controversial - but I think sleeping beauty is better than Cinderella.
Apparently when Sleeping Beauty was first released in 1959, not many people liked it. They thought it was boring and just a copy of Snow White. Sad. Sleeping Beauty was one of Mr. Walt’ Disney’s most expensive movie to make.
I know! It's my favorite disney movie. Sadly it didn't do well in the box office at the time of its release. I still find it an iconic classic :c

This.
Would Mary Poppins and Touchstone Pictures count? They're stand-alone Disney.
I love all of these Disney movies very much I am just shocked that Bambi didn’t make it on the list
The reason Disney's early films didn't earn as much is because for much of the Golden Age, they had a HUGE rival in family entertainment: Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) from 1937-1962, when MGM began focusing on more adult aimed stuff. During their 25-year war, both studios cranked out one classic after another, sometimes in the same year as each other (Disney had Snow White, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty; MGM had The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Carol, National Velvet, Ivanhoe, Ben-Hur and How The West Was Won, among others). MGM actually beat Disney at the box office during a number of those years, making who "won" the "war" a debatable question (since Disney became the family movie leader, but many say MGM had greater films in that era).
Or dumbo
Its really sad that none of the originals made it up there..

Soo... Frozen is the biggest Disney proper movie.
Star Wars and Marvel are owned by Disney yet NOT "conceived" by them.
Money well spent however.
Disney itself is in serious trouble with a lack of creativity. Instead of creating new films, they remake an old one in Live Action, add a little 'social inclusion' in it and say it's a new movie.
Actually Frozen II appears higher, and The Lion King remake is also stand-alone Disney.
I'd give almost anything for people to categorize actual Disney movies instead of everything that Disney owns. Like, if I bought someone else's painting that doesn't mean I created the painting.
I agree... they’re NOT Disney.... just cause they own em... they shouldn’t even be on this list....

Actually, he wasn't. Though I'm sure he was well off, the company wasn't the mega-company it is today... and the studio came close to going bankrupt 3 times in his lifetime
He wasnt cause im sure he was a much better man than those horrible people that own this company today and im pretty sure they own atleast 50-60% of entertaiment production and money connected with it in US and about at least 40-50 % of it worldwide together with China. Its actually pretty scary.
If not for his brother Roy, Walt Disney would have driven his company into a ditch a dozen times over. As it was, he darn near succeeded several times.

Lion King: "I am speed."
Why isn't Bambi's movie on that list? It's said to be "the crowning achievement of Walt Dinsey's animation studio," because it introduced a type of realistic art that has never been done before. Whereas Snow White had animation that had their animal characters looking like "flour sacks". . .
Walt Disney: "In Snow White, we gained more experience and the courage to take another big step. We'd make a cartoon starring only animals. Now, we'd long been interested in the works of Felix Salten, and one of these we felt was ideal. It was Bambi, the story of a deer. We knew that, to retain the charm of these creatures, our animators must fully capture the natural movements and attitudes of real animals."
And from that one important cartoon spawned many others that were inspired by that one, cute Fawn himself: Bambi.
And from that day on, it has held its own place in the history of animation.
