Thank you for your opinion, whether anyone else likes it or not. I have found that you have helped me in my journey with learning cross stitch again. I learned on my own when I was very young, as my mother did not know how to do cross stitch but she did embroidery, crotchet and wanted to learn to quilt. I have enjoyed your video's.
As usual, thank you for a wonderful floss tube! I agree with you about caution when using the marking pens! I am so cautious (wary) when thinking about using something to mark my fabric. When doing a large project (such as ALTWL) I baste a center line horizontally and vertically. Then if necessary, I may baste additional short vertical lines along until I find my starting point. With ALTWL I needed to start at the upper left and am OCD about starting in the right place! You are so kind to explain how to read a chart with "grayed out" areas. Those of us who have been stitching for many years may well know this but for others your explanation is great!
Jean - it was so nice to see you put numbers on the pattern in the margin. I have recently discovered a lot of US designers don't. UK and European reproductionists/designers do. I find them so helpful as I baste stitch in the margin at every 10 stitches and mark the centre marks but much easier to find out where you are by counting. Also, the Stitching Buddy - I've seen others show the markings on it change from showing both black and white lettering so you can see it when you put it over dark fabric or light fabric. Thank you very much for your informative videos.
Hi, Jean! Thank you so much for your stitching tips, and especially for the cautions you shared about the marking pens. You always have such great advice about things, and it’s always so well-presented, and I sure do appreciate it! I always look forward to a new video from you! I hope you continue to feel better, and enjoy all your stitching. ☺️ Meline
Your "opinions" are carefully thought thru, presented with pros and cons for a variety of situations and uses. I appreciate your professional approach to these subject matters.
I love your videos - it's just like taking a textile or needlework course - you are a great teacher of the cloth 🙂 thank you for taking the time to help us stitchers
Fabulous British Isles sampler! I can't wait to stitch it. I stitched The Secret of the Sea and Two Turtles, and a Flamingo. I adore your designs. I appreciate all of your opinions and tips! I paused the video and purchased the Cross-Stitch Buddy Ultimate. I have loved everything you have suggested - scissors and other tools, Cosmo floss, and designs. Thank you for making these videos. I am glad you aren't ready to retire! 😊
Jeqn...the Cruddy symptoms are just that...thanks for the wonderful tips and your new sampler is awesome...it is good to hear that you and Jan will be teaming up for Nashville Market...best wishes❤❤
So glad your health is good again. Thank you for all your tips. Your opinions are very welcome. Come with experience. Good to hear you will be busy designing for market and cruise. Thank you🎉
Glad you’re feeling better. Good reminder about the magnifiers. I use a cloth bag from a set of sheets that had Velcro closure to cover mine anytime I get up from my stitching chair. How exciting to be a vendor at Market next year. So glad for you and I can’t wait to see what new designs you have for those beautiful fabrics. I like the new stitch buddy. Happy Easter
I like the new sampler you are designing for your British Isles cruise, and I look forward to seeing it when it's complete. Glad you'll be bringing back some of your former patterns. I'm throwing out re-releasing your Mary Ann Backhouse as a suggestion. I think her colors and size would really appeal to stitchers who are fans of reproduction samplers and might not have been stitching when she was originally released back in the day 😊. Great tip about covering the magnifiers... I'm especially careful about the magnifier that clips onto my glasses too. A couple of times I've caught myself just removing it from my glasses and leaving it on my side table unsheathed. I'm grateful for your opinion of marking pens. I've never used them because I just didn't want to take a chance of the chemicals potentially having an adverse effect. Good to hear someone else is a little wary too😊.
Love that tool! I always "prep" my threads in even cuts and this would be a lot easier to use! Love the British Isles cruise sampler. Enjoy the trip! I'm excited for Alaska!! Looking forward to seeing what your market ideas are! Happy Stitching!
I got Winter Mint from Atomic Ranch as well! You're such a natural teacher. And I can't tell you how excited I am that you're excited to be a vendor at Nashville again next year!
Great advice as always! I would like to add that verifying fabric count should ideally be done vertically and horizontally. I once had a fabric labeled by the manufacturer as “even weave” and it was only after 12 hours of stitching that I realized it was 28ct x 30ct. The pattern was to be an obvious square, so that was a shame. Learned my lesson the hard way. 🤦♀️ Happy stitching!❤
Glad you are feeling better. Also, I am very happy to listen to your opinions. They are informational and I know you want all of us to enjoy successful projects and outcomes. Congrats on plans to be at market next year!
Glad you are feeling better. I saw the Cross Stitch Buddy and thought what a great tool. I also use a cardboard cut out to wind my floss to cut and store on Floss Drops.
Happy to see you this morning and hear that you are feeling better! I appreciate hearing your opinions, for as a professional designer you have had a wider exposure to techniques and products than I have, and I value your experience. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you release at Market 2025!
Happy Easter! Glad you are feeling better. I was starting to worry that we hadn’t seen you in a while. I saw someone else talk about the Cross Stitch Buddy Ultimate. I bet it was a big seller at market. In deciding about what patterns to reissue please consider the crossstitch shop/house stocking.
Great guidance about water-soluble pens, Jean! It’s so good to see you again, looking and sounding healthy! Have a blessed Easter, from here in Central Pennsylvania.
Thank you for an informative and educational video. I can tell you are a great teacher. My career has been as an appliqué teacher. I have the same opinion about disappearing markers. They are unpredictable at best….why take the risk! Thank you again for your high standards of stitching and for sharing what you know from experience.😊
When it comes to checking the count of a fabric, I stitch about 25 stitches both vertical and horizontally in the margins and then count the stitches per inch. I find it easier to count stitches than threads. I think it’s important to check both ways as the number of stitches per inch could be different. I was helping my sister set up a Long Dog Sampler project ( gigantic chart) and in completing those steps discovered that the fabric dyer sent her the wrong count fabric. The person graciously sent new fabric after the order checked & mistake found at her end. But what if my sister had just measured in 2 inches from a corner & started???? I shudder to think.

Great tips again - I always learn something, thank you. Looking forward to the release of the British Isle sampler - a great momento.
Thank you
Nice job you can never go back I used fishing line that was dark and it stained my project.
Oh I had the “crud” over Christmas. Hung on forever. Glad you’re feeling better! I had to laugh about your animal comments.
Nice ruler, a bit pricy at some shops, as I noticed it varies.
Those markings will reappear if you put your project in the freezer. They never really go away until you wash your project. ....coming from a quilter.
