The season he got sacked he had 18 points after 13 matches....most clubs would have got rid of him especially with some of the dross he bought. Sometimes things just don't work out. Martinez was a strange one...for some reason he played about a dozen PL games in 10years. He did nothing on loan either. maybe he was a later developer.

Martinez was put on loan as he came up from the youth to seniors. Arsenal already had a No.1 so couldnt promise him games, hence put him on loan. As they couldnt promise him match time he asked to leave. Arsenel nor Emery wanted to let him go. In short you let Emery go for Arteta. 13yrs of pain and nothing and a Worlds No.1. As a Villa fan I have to say I don't completely agree that Martinez is an arsehole but since lots of other fans seem to think he is, I can confirm that I'm bloody glad that he's our arsehole!!

Australian villa fan here again - I don't know if many people talk about this, but as someone who enjoys soccer, I always considered Arteta to be a noone. Some subpar player in Scotland who came to England and played for Everton before moving onto Arsenal - he was never a play that excited me. And now as a manager I have to, I HAVE TO ASK - WHY OH WHY DOES ARTETA WEAR EYELINER???!!!!

This is the 4th year under Farteta the Arse holes have bottled it. In 2021, they bottled European football and finished below Spurs. 2022 they bottled top 4 and finished below Spurs. Last season they bottled the league while being top 93% of the time (biggest bottle job). Now they bottled the league again 😂😂😂

This is unrelated. I don't mean to brag. But as an aussie. I have been following ange since his days in australia. When he left to Japan. His first season. They nearly got relegated. But every game was close and everyone around them saw what he was trying to do. Do this sound familiar? And 5th place is nowhere near just avoiding relegation. But he turned that team around and built a championship winning team, off a season where they just avoided relegation.
I thought i'd mention this because perhaps Barnaby would like to share this persepective amongst the fans.

What a perfect remedy, to a thoroughly abysmal performance vs Newcastle. Aston Villa did to the gooners what Newcastle did to Spurs, thoroughly outclassed... especially considering the location, and the moment! I am quite sure that Arsenal would have got a result (probably a draw) if Arteta hadn't tinkered with his starting lineup... but none of us were surprised?
I would have been more surprised if he had stayed with their league-leading formation! -- their loss combined with the Harry Kane equaliser in the CL match were almost sweeter than the Spurs loss was sour. COYS!!!!
