Here again Constant, thank you my friend! I always appreciate connecting and thanks so much for purchasing my Almost Jazz Standards drumless tracks! How's the practice going?
I already started practicing and I appreciate the quality of the recordings. 😌Even though I’m already an a little bit experienced drummer they are quiet helpfull in my daily practice routine🤗
Great vid as always!
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching! I hope you'll also check out my new Jazz Drum Soloing course at Jazz Drum School: jazzdrumschool.com/course/jazz-drum-solo Keep swinging my friend 🤙
Thanks Von, nice video. I know you also play big band, so perhaps you could do a course on that: chart reading and interpretation, long / short note articulation around the drum set, band figure set up, fills, intro, shout, outro chops etc. Best wishes.
Thanks Peter! It's great to hear from you and read your comment. I am planning a course for how to set up kicks and matching articulation is one of the key skills I'll teach. Stay tuned my friend 🤙
It's great stuff, but the explanation I think is a little tired. I've been playing jazz exclusively for a long time, and I've come to the conclusion that good fills or comping has nothing to do with a "conversation." It has nothing to do with dynamics. It has nothing to do with "telling a story." It has nothing to do with "call and response." It's more like language. It has to do with "things that sound good." Just like a pentatonic scale. There's not really an explanation for why it sounds good. Why does your ear like notes on a scale? It just sounds good. If Jazz teachers would just say: "... here's something that I've done that sounds good... use that..." The world would get a lot easier.
LOL 😂 I get it! Thanks for sharing your opinion and for watching. Yes, I too think it comes down to what "sounds good" but how to know what sounds good is a mystery to many beginning Jazz drummers. Use of dynamics and the concept of a musical conversation are helpful concepts for cats to get a thumbnail sketch of what we're doing on the kit. Keep swinging my friend 🤙
