"I think all stories are love stories" This explains so much about how Andrew Scott plays his parts. I feel like in every part he is somehow loveable, even when he is playing someone like Moriarty.
that's so true, I rewatched the reichenbach fall episode of Sherlock recently and Andrew Scott plays Moriarty as a deeply lonely and depressed guy, even though he's also hilariously insane, it's fascinating.
I saw this and immediately shouted ‘they are KILLING US with these pairings’. SO GOOD. I love the thoughtfulness and empathy in Andrew’s acting & that’s really true of Greta as well.
Oh my gosh Greta Lee is amazing! I'm so grateful she shared her story of being passed up for the role only to be offered the role a year later. Truly a sign that what's meant to be is what's meant to be, but it's also okay to mourn the loss of what isn't.
I just can’t understand how this role would be Gerwig’s since she’s white. It was probably a generic voicemail that COULD have been interpreted as being about Past Lives by Greta Lee when she listened to it. 😂 I’m so happy Greta Lee is having her time. Her face is just… magnificent.
Greta's "God damnit" when Andrew says "I have a sort of idea that all stories are love stories" is such a genuine reaction to hearing Andrew speak yet another beautiful and profound truth. Love these two.
Greta is so incredibly funny! She’s got a graceful sense of wit that makes the conversation flow and pick up throughout. Andrew is attentive and kind, offering earnest themes about intertwining love and his craft. Very enjoyable watch. Seasoned actors finally getting their flowers
Well said. She's beautiful in a natural organic way. Would she turn heads if she was walking down the street and you didn't know who she was? Probably not, but then after seeing her a second or third time up close and it suddenly hits you. This woman is absolutely gorgeous
Past Lives was so phenomenal and Greta delivered such a deeply authentic and frighteningly affecting performance. I saw it months ago and even now I don't quite know how to talk about it, absolutely loved it.
Watching these professionals interact about their work is fascinating to me. I am an electrical engineering student - a kind of work where emotion, instinct, vulnerability, and failure are not only rare but in many cases discouraged - and I can’t imagine ever having such an emotional and vulnerable conversation with a colleague about work. It’s an amazing reminder of how different people can be, and how glad I am for that to be true. I could never be so passionate or skillful about acting, just like these two could never match my passion for electronics and programming (nor would they even want my skill set), but without people like them we would never have such amazingly powerful pieces of art, and without people like me they wouldn’t have the tools they use to make said art. I’m writing this at 3AM, anxiously awaiting my last final of the semester, to remind anyone who may come across this that you also have your own role in the world, and that you are special and important and NECESSARY simply because you are exactly you. Embrace your passion the way these two have and the world really will become better for it.
Very well said, that we are all important and necessary just by being us, we spend so much time trying to live up to something or be like or be someone else. But the world needs us, and what we are passionate about, thats how we contribute to the world and to ourselves
Been a fan of Andrew since his role as Moriarty, then the priest and his role in Hamlet(incredible btw) and even in black mirror were phenomenal, such an underrated actor! From now on hope he gets the recognition he deserves, sweet talent man with an absolutely kindest heart
Andrew's role in Black Mirror was so beautifully acted. I'm happy to see him continue to have all this success. All of Us Strangers blew me away and had me floored by his performance. I really hope he can get an Oscar nomination or at least a BAFTA nom.
omg I am OBSESSED with this pairing. This year both actors are staring in tender, introspective romantic indie movies that reflect on family history and belonging. Both Past Lives (Greta Lee) and All of Us Strangers (Andrew Scott) are at the top of my watchlist...oh and they are critically acclaimed too.
I saw Past Lives on the plane and I just sat in my seat sobbing after it finished and rewinded back to the bar scene and the goodbye scene to watch them again. One of the best movies of the year for me, incredible performances and outstanding screenplay!
This was so much fun. Might be tied equal with Margot & Cillian for my favourite Actors on Actors conversations. All Of Us Strangers & Past Lives are two of the best, most moving and touching films I’ve ever seen. 😭 Greta & Andrew are such wonderful actors & it was wonderful to listen to them talk about their acting processes. Can’t wait to watch their next projects.
And they just keep getting better this cycle. A totally delicious match up, and the notion of a double bill of "All of Us Strangers" and "Past Lives" is too, too good and simply must happen. Thank you, Ms. Lee, Mr. Scott, & Variety: this one rocked our world.
Andrew Scott in Fleabag, omg. I come back to it from time to time and to this day I can't help but smile the whole time watching him and Pheobe W. Bridge. No other film does this to me❤
Andrew deserves all the recognition. ❤️ He's the sweetest. He played so many great characters The man is like a cinnamon roll and then play the most psychotic character on TV aka Moriarty. I can't wait to see Ripley and All of Us Strangers.
Didn't watch these two movies and this is one of my favorite episodes. Two very charismatic and interesting people, I could listem to them for hours. Great pairing!
I love how every actors on actors starts with a bit of both of them jokingly talk about how they just looove the privacy and intimacy of the setting, haha.
Haha I know. But I genuinely don’t know why they don’t make the setting cozier, I believe it would help making this interviews even better (if that’s even possible, I adore them!).
Variety put together the best pairings. I never even conceived of this pair in my head and they come from the most unlikely backgrounds to cross paths, and yet here they are, both absolutely perfect together!
Andrew is my absolute favourite actor. Seems like such a wonderful and kind person too. I’ve watched everything he’s been in I can get my hands on and will continue to do so for as long as he continues to bless us with his talent. Hope he has nothing but love, health and success. 😊 What a great conversation this was. Two really sweet people. Going to see if I can find her movie to watch as well. ♥️
Gorgeous pairing. These two are nearly opposite in the characters they play (as can be seen even in their wardrobe choice for this chat), but they share an undercurrent of play and warmth that made this gripping. I was sad when it ended. Well done, Variety and thank you Hot Priest and Stella Bak!
i love their conversational rhythm and bback and forth! they were each so generous and vulnerable with their questions and answers. such a brilliant match up of actors and films
I’ve been shouting my love for Greta Lee from the rooftops for a while now and I’m so happy she’s finally getting her flowers. If I were a rich producer /writer/ director I would put here in everything do.
Been looking forward to this episode for a week. So good! Two beautiful humans. I'm tearing up thinking about the last scene in Past Lives and I no doubt will tear up at All of Us Strangers next month.
All of Us Strangers is absolutely outstanding but the most deeply emotional I’ve ever felt watching a film. Was lucky enough to see it at an advanced preview. Can’t wait to see Past Lives, everyone’s raved about it
Past Lives is such beautiful masterpiece, I remember when the movie ended I just had the feeling like I need to sit with it for like an hour or a day before I do anything else. I have to watch All of Us Strangers now, I'm very intrigued
Andrew Scott has that magnetic quality. I saw it in fleabag. I can't explain it, but it's like he was written by a woman? lol. his emotional intelligence and ability to make the audience feel it in a unique way is special.
First time I ever saw Andrew Scott in something, he played Paul McCartney. I must be one of the very few, because I never hear anyone else refer to that role when interviewing him.
I wish I could tell Andrew the amount of people fully unabashedly sobbing in the theater when I saw All of Us Strangers (including myself). Never have I ever seen such a performance! The man deserves the world.
Is it just me or is the chemistry here beautiful to watch? Seems so natural, more so than the others.
one hundred percent, I havent seen many of these but this is one that stands out as just very down to earth, natural conversation.
They need to do a project together.
What everyone said.
you're right...their chemistry is off the chain here.... they should really act across each other one day
both below mid looking
This is chemistry, they understood each other immediately, almost as if they shared past lives.
They’ve got a lot of in-yun
They are just strangers
Yes!!
Hey I saw what you did there 😂😂😂😂😂
A+, all you lot ❤
whoever was in charge of this pairing deserves a raise - seriously
This channel needs to charge $1 for every time a comment like this appears under an Actors on Actors video
They so do I didn’t see this coming but how wonderful to see them conversing. I think he’s a lovely person
Comments like this are really getting boring 😅😅
man this comment is always on the top of these videos
Each and everyday you comment the same thing 🤡
Andrew Scott is such an underrated actor. Loved him in Sherlock and Fleabag
He was great in 1917 also
Pride is another great one!☺️👌🏻
He was fantastic in Black Mirror as well
@@TheFranc77 he was in 1917? as what?

If all stories are love stories and all love stories are ghost stories, who killed colonel mustard???
He was IN LOVE with Blofeld!
These 2 actors just met?! I feel like we just stepped into a conversation between long time friends. They have such good chemistry and rapport.
they're acting
@@flyingfaceyea it was too good to be true 😂
The fact that neither of these two got an oscar nomination is downright criminal
SNUBBERY OF THE CENTURY
Andrew comes across as so intelligent. I'll never forget his performance in Sherlock. Masterpiece.
I enjoyed his performance in Fleabag even more.
@@ordinarryalienwho can forget the hot priest 😭
Andrew will always be Moriarty for me first.
But his hot priest is hard - impossible - to forget.
He was in one episode of Black Mirror too. He was great as always.
Yeah. He's got that HUGE brain.
I saw this and immediately shouted ‘they are KILLING US with these pairings’. SO GOOD. I love the thoughtfulness and empathy in Andrew’s acting & that’s really true of Greta as well.
oh yes SO TRUEEEEE

Can we talk about the chemistry between these two? The conversation just flows so well with them.

beautiful comment
I knoooow, I am fan of her humor! I want her to be my friend!
Past Lives and All Of Us Strangers are two of the most beautiful love stories I’ve seen in years!
It is actually unbelievable how gorgeous Greta Lee is. She is so wonderful.

"we are the new barbenheimer" lol greta is hilarious.
If we build it they will come hahahaha
Andrew just has chemistry with literally everyone
so does Greta
He is chemistry, gosh could watch him just existing
Andrew Scott in All of Strangers was incredible beyond words. I felt that performance in my soul.
There're nothing better than mature actors who just enjoy their success in their mature age. Just fun and humble, I love them both so much
Past Lives was so phenomenal and Greta delivered such a deeply authentic and frighteningly affecting performance. I saw it months ago and even now I don't quite know how to talk about it, absolutely loved it.
Now THIS is a pairing! Fabulous chemistry. I love when new and extraordinary acting talents appear on the scene like these two have.

This was beautiful to read. Thank you stranger 💐
A mother and a father…their power together is overwhelming
i want a hundred more hours of these two incredible performers
OMG, these two paired so well! They felt like two highschool friends instead of two actors who never met before.
Been a fan of Andrew since his role as Moriarty, then the priest and his role in Hamlet(incredible btw) and even in black mirror were phenomenal, such an underrated actor! From now on hope he gets the recognition he deserves, sweet talent man with an absolutely kindest heart

That Priest was hot 😊
These two talk so normal. It is almost as if I am eavesdropping a conversation between them at dinner.
I think Greta needs also some recognition for how sweet and kind she is
I need these two to be in a movie together. They just met, yet their chemistry is through the roof
They both deserve Oscar nominations

Greta always gives off a cheeky playful vibe in her interviews, be it here or on Graham Norton’s red sofa. It’s really endearing.
OMG their chemistry is INSANE!!!! 😍 We definitely need a movie with these two together!!!!!!
I saw Past Lives on the plane and I just sat in my seat sobbing after it finished and rewinded back to the bar scene and the goodbye scene to watch them again. One of the best movies of the year for me, incredible performances and outstanding screenplay!
Been in awe of Andrew Scott for a long time. He’s fantastic.
These guys have unprecedentedly brilliant chemistry, this is easily one of the easiest and well-flowing Actors on Actors of this year!
This was such a delightful conversation
It is happening: Greta and Andrew filming together ´My Notes On Mars ˋ next spring. So excited 🔥❤
Such a lovely conversation between two underrated actors!
Their chemistry in this interview was so good that they are going to star in a movie together called My Notes On Mars
The chemistry here is through the roof. Like I’ll watch 100 hours of them together whatever the situation…. Commenting for any filmmaker out there…
I can't believe Andrew Scott is 47 years old. He looks so young!!! 😲
The banter and chemistry between these two are so good, such a great pairing!
This duo is wonderful Andrew & Greta's repartee is sublime.
oh my god their chemistry is so good. the banter is top notch. need to see them in a film together, i feel like they’d play off each other so well!
Whoever matched these 2 up really earned that day's pay. They are a joy to watch together. Their senses of humor just dovetail beautifully.
What a delightful pairing; Greta, with her sharp crackling New York bagel wit and Andrew's smooth, warm buttery Irish charm.

What an awesome couple. Love Scott and his work in films. Didn't know Greta would be such fun. She's awesome. Loved Past Lives.
This interview was so beautiful. I laughed and cried along with them. Wonderful chemistry between them. So honest and insightful and real.
Every single one of these actor pairings has been fantastic this year. Well done, Variety.

Two of the most beautiful movies on human emotion and experience, and two of the most insightful actors. What a win!
"Easy to root for," is what I would say about Ms. Lee and Mr. Scott. Congrats...and much continued success in the future!

Greta Lee and Andrew Scott , we get you your Oscar nominations !!!!
Andrew Scott was formidable in All of Us Strangers. I fell in love with his character and performance.
This is such a wholesome pairing. I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole thing.
Their charisma together if off the charts. Such a delightful, deep, playful interview with two gifted actors. Love love love
The 2 most devastating films of the year
I have a screener for All Of Us Strangers. Will watch it soon but Past Lives was both devastating and beautiful.
Also, in that running is The Iron Claw and 20 Days In Mariupol
These two really hit it off. Charming pair.

boy i never ever felt sad that an actors on actors ended but it happened with this one. one of my favorites of life
I saw Greta Lee on The Morning Show and I love her! I can't wait to see Past Lives!!
I watched both of these movies the past week and wow! They both made me cry in different ways.
What a genuine relaxed conversation, I want to grab a drink and join them

andrew scott my beloved
I don't know something about Andrew Scott that makes him so charming and lovely. Like the way he seems to treat everyone like they're special.

Greta is so funny! It's a joy to hear her riff with Andrew Scott
I will pay so much to see these two in a movie!!!!
I hope they stay friends because this was so lovely
