When I was a young man and feeling confused and depressed I went into some woods and was sitting with my back to a tree After some time a sparrow came and perched on my knee looking at me . I suddenly felt that nature was communicating with me and immediately felt better .
I will never forget the healing nature of that encounter .

I took a complete leap of faith when I was 27 (35 now), knowing that the path I was being pushed on by society WAS the worst case scenario. Absolute slavery to a totalitarian system. I quit my job and basically accepted that I would have nothing, unless nature, Life, accepted me, and I accepted being part of it. Earlier I had quit school for the same reason: my soul knew they kept me dumb and fed me lies and hierarchical propaganda to control me.
I was labeled sick (well, "autism spectrum disorder" because I have an autonomously functioning mind, set my own rules, and live by them no matter what "the law" says) and poor, but actually never healthier or wealthier, both in what I value, and in monetary fictional funds. Instead of renting a soulless apartment in a soulless city to do a soulless job to pay bills and tax extortion and spend what little I had left on surrogate "happiness" and false "freedom", I now have two plots of forest land that are "my own" (whatever that means), and instead of being depressed to the point of wanting to die and accepting that that could very well be the result of my choice, I'm more alive than ever before, with a deeper love for life than ever, and no more aching body and exhausted mind and soullessness from "normality", where I would have never found peace anyway, that was clear from very young age. Still more willing to die than to let them push me back in line though.
I wish you all the best brother, sister.

There was mango tree outside of my room where I am staying, but the root system was affecting the perimeter wall, so it had to be chopped down. I felt a deep sorrow for the next few days following its removal... Though we don't think about it, every living thing around us draws energy from us and gives energy to us, so when the tree was removed, I felt like I had lost something dear to me, even though I never consciously thought about it that way.

I finally realized a few years ago that the ONLY place I'm truly happy is outdoors amongst the hills and trees, away from the cities and suburbs. I can be happy here indoors as well of course but it's never that pure, deep-seated joy and contentment. The difference in how I feel and think here going about my daily chores and job and how I feel and think out there amongst the woods and the rocks and the hills and the rivers is incredibly stark.
I currently have plans in the works to get out of dodge once the old folks' time on this Earth is up and have remote land scoped out to purchase. I need my outdoors. Amongst nature is truly where life is best.

I grew up on 80 acres of woods. Trees have always been sacred to me. My family's properties is one of the few that have not been logged off. The forest takes care of itself No trees cut for the century my family has owned it. The local logging company still sends offers of money to my mom to log off the property. She finally responded back that if they contact her again, she will consider it harassment and contact a lawyer.
I've always felt compelled to see and experience the giant redwoods!

We collected tadpoles and watched them grow into frogs we would play with the salamanders. We went fishing in a nearby pond . Those were the days I remember the most as a child . I now go hiking with my family. Go out on the lake and go camping. It is important to enjoy the great outside . You are right it makes you feel better.

👍Truth, Bjorn. This is how I survived a painful childhood. At my lowest points of my 65 yrs, it was always nature that gave me peace and real joy. Trees embody more than people will accept. The derogatory use of one calling another human a " tree hugger" makes me laugh in sorrow for the idiocy of that sort of thinking. Almost 50 yrs ago, I formed an unusual group of girls and boys with ecology as our focus. The children raised enough $ to buy 350 seedling regional trees to plant randomly. It was very ambitious. We were a bit understaffed for such a huge project., but each seedling was planted. I visited a few of them in 2008, and they are glorious to behold! I hope those same children have carried on that ambition with them to pass down to their children as a "Butterfly Effect"". I was so young back then. I can only hope people like yourself keep the message alive. Thank you for your devotion to that knowledge of our forests importance on your platform. Can you imagine if every reader grew and then planted at least 5 trees? I think that would really matter right now.

Grew up in the city yet I've always felt the same way. Always sought out tree filled parks, fountains of running water and piers when I was stressed out. I've been to therapy before but when I couldn't afford it or no longer felt helped by it I spent hours looking at the way the water flowed. It always made me feel like I was being cleansed inside and any chaotic feelings/emotions inside me were being unwinded. Always makes me sad when people say they hate nature because of bugs or the climate is too hot or cold. I wonder if some people have completely severed their innate connection to nature because of their dependence on modern conveniences. They're missing out on so much.

Nature & it's plethora of metaphors for living & understanding our capacity was what nurtured me as a neglected, wild raised child with my messed up traumatized lost minded parents; gave thanks to a grandmother tree and immediately felt the energy in my hands and body which then suddenly made me aware of it's root energies! Nothing gifts, soothes and restores us like Mother Nature, our Great Mother which old Europe honoured and revered following her teachings and not humans theft of her plentiful gifts and blessings.

I am barefooted often, summer and winter, in my yard. I get my hands in the dirt planting in the Spring and caress my trees and plants all year. The plants do better when we do this, also. Try rubbing a leaf and talking to it. See what happens within a few days. It will blow your mind.

Oh yes, it has. Nearby I have my local woods. Not that very big but big enough to spend a day in without meeting other people. It calms me down. It's the best help to keep the mental health.

Hello Bjorn. We are kindred spirits. I just returned from a week in the backcountry bow hunting elk in my home state of Wyoming, USA. I'm out every day with my bird dog (who also elk hunts with me) and we walk miles in the heat and cold and snow and rain, and she is my consrant an faihful partner. I am so happy to hear that you acknowledge that just as with all of nature, we humans too are part of the natural world. I think that the distinction is that as humans, we have attributes that put us above many of other of God's creations, and that we also have faculties that should lead us to realize that with the blessings of these faculties come responsibilites. Respect for our fellow creatures and of our place in nature, and as humans, although we will kill elk, deer, birds, cows, and fish to eat, we must always deeply appreciate our place in nature. When I kill an elk or any other creature, I am happy and grateful, and honor them with every meal. Almost every day, I'm immersed in nature, and so what you hve conveyed in your video resonates deeply with me. "The steps of a rightous man are oredered by the Lord." Walk on Bjorn!

Beautifully put. Hunting done right is good for the herds , mankind and nature. My family always respects their kills. And yes, we need to remember to tenderly care for the beautiful nature God created for us.

I love this video and your words 🙂 I’ve always felt a connection with plants and animals. You’re so right about a feeling of belonging when you go out in nature. I will never forget that day I was out walking in the woods in Kentucky, and this buck and i saw each other. The buck came up to me , and stopped to check me out. I got this sense that this was a living being that demanding respect , and that there’s something greater than man kind. I wasn’t scared or uncomfortable, as he sniffed me. We met eyes one last time, before he went off into the woods. It was a beautiful moment ❤.

Insightful as always. We took a road trip last week from the desert to the forests of Arkansas. It is the same natural feeling but a unique feeling all of it's own. Each natural area has a power all it's own.

    *From the ‘Desiderata’*
“You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”
Whilst I find the entire Poem can cause me to become rather introspective ...even pensive... Max Ehrmann, [with but Two Sentences] imho, sums it up rather succinctly.

VERY underrated video and message. Well and I feel the same, everything you say, the connection, everything. Even though I ahvent such a wide, and clean nature like in norwegian, it makes still a difference, going outside of big cities. Thank you very much, its nice to listen to wisdom that comes really from your inner self by own experience, and not from repeating others.

Hello from Arizona, U.S.! I decided to live in my RV 2 years ago and I still do. I’m fortunate to have public lands here in the western US as my home. I stay for free on these public lands - forests, deserts, grasslands, beaches. I never knew I’d develop the relationship I now have with nature. It’s indescribable! I need it. It feels like the trees welcome me. I know who the robin is. The cactus greet me in the heat of the desert. I listen to elk and coyote in the evenings. I wouldn’t trade this for any other lifestyle. I’m home here.

Greetings from England, I totally agree I find the forest to be a great centre for healing, especially if one has a spiritual connection nature. The soil of the homeland a sacred bond.

very well said!!! also going into the forest for at least 45min a day boosts your immune system as the air the trees release there are particles that you breath in and they trigger a stronger immune system.

Very well put Bjorn. We are taught religion but we know our true connection with nature through instinct and gut feeling. I see that you are always with the rock up-croppings, and the ancient trees. You can feel the connection with them, can’t you? It is an amazing feeling!
