- Here we have the "Man Alive" theme tune from the very popular TV series that ran in the UK from 1965 to 1981.. I don't think this tune that was done by "Tony Hatch" ever charted, but i think it's a great instrumental and well worth a spin on my channel.. The lovely lady that can be seen here is "Julie Christie" and the footage is from the classic UK film "Billy Liar" and i thought the two went well together here.. Thanks for watching...

A very evocative piece that, for me, conjures up the long-lost world of my youth. The choice of accompanying film clip is masterly. No specially-commissioned video could have complemented the music more perfectly than young Ms. Christie, breezing her way into 'Billy Liar'. Hard to believe now but in 1963, that skirt she is wearing would be have considered daringly short!
Almost brings me to tears Robert and I'm a 66-year-old Londoner. Reminds me so much of my Inner London youth until I moved 12 miles away in 1983 to the house that I still live in. This is the Theme for The Man Alive Series and I have just seen, once again, "Man Alive Hyde Park" and it has totally filled me with nostalgia. It was just a normal day in the park but personified the idiosyncrasies and eccentricities of the England of that era perfectly. The Lady from Westbourne Terrace who emigrated to Canada and still sent money for flowers for her pet Cat buried in The Pet Cemetary there resonates. That programme was 1967 and the cat lived from 1922-46....

Yeah i really like this instrumental Mark, and Tony Hatch has done quite a few good ones over the years.. Oh this ain't London Mark, this is Bradford i believe, which is where the film "Billy Liar" was filmed.. I got the movie which was a freebie in the Sunday newspaper a number of years back, they gave some real good ones out.. Thanks for watching mate, have a great day there...

I just watched a wonderful 50-minute programme about Hyde Park in Central London in that series that has almost brought this 66-year-old Londoner to tears of nostalgia to a world that no longer exists...

Must agree wonderful music from my youth. How I enjoyed that time. I had my 3 piece suit and off to the dance. The girls were so pretty with no horrible tattoos. There was full employment and a family could get along pay off a house own a reasonable car all on 1 wage.

Hi, Carl - don't remember the TV show (I heard about the film) but loved the music and the lovely Julie Christie. I also enjoyed spotting the old cars - that Vauxhall at the beginning is great - and the shops too. great memories from what seems like yesterday.
Hi Vic, the film Billy Liar was filmed mainly in Bradford Yorkshire, your part of the world i believe, but i don't remember the series Man Alive that much, i was more interested in other things in the late 70's like going out chasing girls (smile) but i sure do like the theme tune from Man Alive.. Tony Hatch & his Orchestra recorded some great tunes, and i just might check out a few more pieces of his work, which is like a good wine, and gets better with age.. Thanks for watching mate...

OH MY GOODNESS ! I thought that was whom that was, before I read your info! My old Girlfriend, ever since that great classic film, Dr Zhivago...( I watch, at least 1X a year) I bet that was a popular show there..I do not think we ever got to see, over this end.. You get so many great shows there past&present..Wish they would show more of, here...Our's are not fitting to watch any longer,
LOL... I used to watch All Creatures Great and Small, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearances & few others really enjoyed...I know of Tony Hatch & Orchestra, in fact have a few of his records.. This was very nice, and sounds like it went with the show very well... Looks like it may have been a little similar to a show we had in the 60's called "That Girl" with Marlo Thomas..

Oh you mention some real good shows there Rich, with that "All creatures great and small" being one of my favourites, and i recently got hold of the film for that series that was made.. This film this clip was taken from "Billy Liar" which is a really good film, funny in parts but sad in other parts, and it has some great British actors in it too.. All creatures great and small was brilliant, the actor that played the head vet was brilliant in his roll, so was the actor that played James. I saw them on some travel show with them driving an old car and I didn't recognise the actor that played James or the younger one that was travelling with him.
@@BoB4jjjjs Hi Bob, Well in the film sequel to All creatures great and Small "It shouldn't happen to a vet" James was played by "John Alderton" who is better known for his roll in the series and film "Please Sir" so maybe that is who you saw driving that old car in that travel show..

@@TheOldrecordclub It was the ones that played the vets under the head vet, can't remember their names, (actors) but they went around parts of the UK and mostly Scotland in an old car. They went to the road that was cut off by a Hydro or Water Dam, can't think at the moment, but the road can still be seen on the other side of the dam. Someone will know what dam it is. It was ok series of programs, but they had aged a bit and I didn't know who it was until I was told. Take care mate.

Yeah that Volcano is quite a nasty one, but luckily for me i am well south of where it is, but many thousands on the main island of Luzon have been evacuated.. I loved Julie Christie in Billy Liar. Pretty girl, looked very nice as she sat in the lorry coming into Central London. Shame on the film producers for not taking a shot of her getting out of the lorry. I'd have loved to see that in the finished product. I've got the film on DVD.

I watched Billy Liar a few days ago and this music wasn’t played once....

I can't remember any program that went with the tune, but if it ran till the 80's I must have seen it at one point. I do know the tune strangle enough, perhaps I showed no interest in it. But then I was always out looking for something else But I thought I would have seen it in the 70's? I'll need to look for it now!

I have just seen "Man Alive Hyde Park" from a typical day in the park in 1967 and it was evocative of a wonderful era that no longer seems to exist :)
It was "Man Alive" Bob and if you want to see a classic example of 1967 England then please watch the "Man Alive-Hyde Park" for 50 wonderful nostalgic minutes, my friend...

I always thought the start of this tune was like the Vision On theme tune.

London is an international city always was and always will be. Londoner born and bred here and proud of my city.
@@peterdavy6110 Me too, dad worked in County Hall for the LCC, then GLC when it was a... er... a county hall. Dept of Architecture & Civic design rebuilding London after the Blitz. I'm pleased your proud of it but not sure it's origin is as an international city, moreover not certain it always will be. At present I'd suggest it is a shambles, but hey, we beg to differ. I left, I loathe it. Now Singapore... Kuala Lumpur... Kota Kinabalu, they're international cities to be proud of.
