    Steve , you should have put some silicone grease on the threads of the filter where the two halves screw together. Will come apart much easier when you go to change the cartridge next time.

    • @one7decimal2eight
      @one7decimal2eight 4 года назад +2

      Exactly. I learned this lesson the hard way. I have a reverse osmosis system under my sink with 3 filters on it. Took a long time to crack it loose because I may have overtightened or minerals or whatever. Did the silicone trick and it opens every time without any issues.

    • @Scott-eo7lj
      @Scott-eo7lj 4 года назад +2

      Instructions say not to put anything on the threads. If you can't get them apart it means you're going ape shit when tightening it. It has an o-ring so there's no reason to tighten it to the max. It should not leak when turning a 1/4 turn after hand tightening it.

    • @milotorres6894
      @milotorres6894 2 года назад +3

      @@Scott-eo7lj basically like a oil filter 3/4 turn after contact on flat seal O ring should only need snug hand tighten plastic will lock if over tighten.. just my humble observation.. 🤔👍✌️🙏😔😸🦋💪

    Steve, at 30:03 you were looking at 1/2" copper that seemed to go nowhere. That tube goes right into the well and allows makeup air in the well. as water is drawn, air goes through that tube into the empty well space to prevent a vacuum.

  • @royallclark6331

    All of the housing I've installed have said to install the cup hand tight only. Use the wrench to remove.. Also, if the pressure isn't released off the housing, it will very hard to remove. I've had to replace many because the homeowner sees the wrench and goes gorilla on it! That or they didn't see the big O ring fall out and then use the wrench to over tighten to stop the leak.
    Just sayin..... YMMV

    As someone who does heating and plumbing in the UK (and i know a large amount of europe is basicly the same as the UK), its very interesting to see how its done in america. Because air conditioning isnt as common in the UK we dont have as many people specialized in both but we do have some. Very cool video. Thanks for the insight.

      Waste of money on a deep well. But a very good idea on shallow "Dug" wells. Deep wells are not at risk of the things a UV light will kill.

    I went and installed 3 large water filters at work for water used in cooking our products. 2 were cold lines and 1 was hot. I didn’t want to use these plastic case filter housing on the hot line, but I installed what what they ordered up for me to install. Less than a year later that filter housing developed internal cracks and blew out staying a bunch of water overhead and threw the floor and down into the production area through wall seams. Huge mess!!! Checked the other 2 and they were perfectly fine.
    I have a all stainless filter housing I ordered, but been busy to get installed. I’m going to try this week. I did do a way to bypass these filters so they can be worked on and allow water to flow on by without going through the filters. So like it had been for 15+ years without water filters in these locations.
    Trying to filter the hot water side is not a normal thing you would do at home. There really was no practical way to get a filter on the cold side to handle all of these locations. Most of the main copper lines are 2”.
    So never put a plastic housing filter on a hot water side!!! Home use you’re going to put one on before any water gets to your hot water tank, before it splits to a cold and a hot side.
    I installed a duel filter setup for sone friends. Their old system was bad, so I did a better setup, but limited in space as it was in the front of their house. There is no basement. Here in CA, I don’t of anyone who has a basement. Of course we don’t have these fuel tanks in basements heating up our homes either. It’s natural vase or propane. I think one city, maybe more banned that for electoral for less pollution. This is loonie CA. New housing gets more and more restrictions. I think any new homes have to have solar.
    Nooooooo, don’t crank the filter down hard like that with the handle!!! I live the o-ring and then hand tighten, maybe just a run bit with the wrench at most. If it dribbles you can tighten it a bit more. After that, it’s going to be a while before you have to remove it and now this filter may not come back apart once again. Now you’re replacing the camera whole thing once again.

    Hello Steve, you said at one point that if you get a leak on the connections going into the unit you would have to cut the pipework to undo the male threads going into it, although you could see the pipework had no play on it, you could have possibly used a compression lever valve instead of the soldered one, if you have had a leak, undoing the nuts on the lever valve might have allowed enough water out possibly and then with the nuts undone, maybe you could have undone the male fittings going into the unit, although it might be a bit awkward

    Another good video; however, I would have put a union fitting on at least 1 side for easy no solder replacement in the future!

      Copper unions tend to leak, then you have to dope them up and tighten the crap out of them. Avoid at all cost. Copper pipe is easy to cut and solder. Especially that tiny stuff. I generally working with 2” stuff at work.

      @@jbdragon3295 Copper unions only leak if they are not lined up properly.

    I'd think twice about it just sticking down like that... I'd do it by the wall... just saying basements got lots of things moved stored..seems stupid to me..

    I am surprised you don't use Pro-Press for water and Mega-Press for gas fitting. Saves lots of time.
