- Razor’s Edge (1984)
Modern Trailer Edit by Dan McBride
Part of my trailer project - breathing some new life into older, forgotten or overlooked films.
Mainly to spread awareness of these great films and hopefully inspire more people to seek them out.
Director - John Byrum
Synopsis - Larry Darrell goes on a journey for meaning after being exposed to the horrors of World War I, traveling to Paris and then to the Himalayas as he seeks inner peace.
I think it’s safe to say that audiences in 1984 weren’t ready for a serious movie starring Bill Murray, and today it’s still mostly forgotten, despite Murray successfully reinventing himself “post-Lost in Translation” (or "post-Rushmore," if you're one to argue).
The film is quite divisive, surely in no small part to Murray’s deadpan humor which can feel oddly out of place in a film like this.
Though I think it actually gives the movie a lot of charm and makes it pretty unique, despite some flaws. --DM
What do you think - was Murray ahead of his time or was this just an ill-conceived blunder?

I'm going to watch this with my wife tonight because of this trailer. Someone linked this from an interview video with Bill Murray and Sophia Coppola talking about their movie Lost in Translation (2004) with Scarlet Johannsen. Thank you for helping me sort through endless movies to find these works of art!
My favorite movie. Can't recommend it enough.
Larry Darrell is every person who expects nothing from life and more from himself.
I actually loved this movie. Some say an obscure Bill Murray role, but I say one of his best!
Thank you once again for promoting a "new" film to us. Ah, the power of a ***good*** movie trailer.
Fun fact: Columbia Pictures told Bill Murray that they'll fund this movie on the condition that he do Ghostbusters.
Murray didn't like it but agreed. The Razor's Edge was Murray's passion project. Ironically he's best known for being a Ghostbuster while The Razor's Edge is forgotten.
Murray's performance made this film, & it worked by his incorporating his sense of humor, not hiding it with a solemn tone that comics tend to do with a rare serious role, that choice was key!
I fully agree with you! Although I understand that it doesn't work for a lot of people, however I thought his humor brought something completely unique to the story and made it much more memorable.
Can't believe I've never heard of this one, looks like I have something to watch tonight!
Thank you to whomever worked on this. Really well done. Very underrated movie.
Thank you! Underrated indeed!
Such an under rated film, brilliant.
I'm glad someone else thinks this is underrated!
Gonna check it out now based on this trailer. I love serious Bull Murray
Murray’s best film, IMHO..
Great trailer. Nowadays they'd be courting this film during Awards season.
dont stop making this edits, If I can suggestion one amazing underrated and not well know Masterpiece it name is A Train to Life
This was one of my favourite films, and I couldn’t understand why the critics panned it. Some of Bill Murray’s finest work.
Just watched the tyrone Power film, and this trailer looks good. I know Murray was very disappointed it was panned America just wanted to see another ghost busters at that time. I think he would make a great Larry and I can see from one of the commentators that Wes Anderson thought so too!! Murray was very proud of this .
I love this. Thanks.
I'm watching this, thinking, "If this trailer dropped right now I'd watch the SHIT out of this movie". Read the book, watched the movie, and all flaws aside... it touches on something timeless and important. Thanks for keeping this movie alive in my mind.
Yes it is a bit flawed but I def appreciate your comment and I totally agree!
About 15 years back, I saw the tape cover for this movie front and back was like: 😒"well if I haven't heard of this Bill Murry movie, it must be dud."
But, after seeing this preview, 😲my interest has been tapped and my mind has been changed.
Update: I just finished watching, not a typical Bill Murray movie but his character fit the script and this movie delivers. I really like it! 🙂
7.5 out 10 stars
Fuckin STUNNING JOB…🙏🙏
Absolutely love your work. This trailer and the one you did for one eyed jacks are my personal favourites.
What song did you use for this (the piano piece at the start) I can’t find it anywhere?
Next movie added to my watch list :)
He makes a funny looking soldier.
@Prof. Richard Wolff. Please, don't be unkind to your cat😊
Thanks again for making a masterpiece trailer of another one of my favorite flicks.
Man we must be the same age, cause quite a few of my go to movies are on your channel.
Could you please look into making a trailer for the film "Scarecrow" the scarecrow starring Gene Hackman & Al Pacino. It is a wonderful Film with the worst trailer I have ever witnessed. It is or was Gene Hackman's Favorite film and Al's 2nd movie.
Thank you for your Brilliant Content.
Thanks so much! And I do love "Scarecrow" it is up there as one of my favorite road movies. I did do a trailer for another film by the director, "Puzzle Of A Downfall Child" - ruclips.net/video/YS6VmN0sA0o/видео.html
I'm sure Scarecrow will get the treatment eventually, it's an underrated gem. I knew that it was Gene Hackman's favorite film of his own, but I didn't know Pacino spoke so highly of it as well!
And I did enjoy your Trailer for that film, You did a good Job.
Hi Dan! Is there any chance you could create a trailer for “The crow” with Brandon Lee?

This was the movie that made Wes Anderson want to work with Bill Murray.
Is that true? I never heard that before!
Please do a modern trailer for the incredible 1981 film it could use a modern trailer.
Imagining a movie where Bill Murray retreats to the Australian Outback after WWI to hunt a man-eating boar and contemplate the meaning of life
Going to call it The Razorback's Edge
I’d watch the shit out of this!
I love both films.. Had the same thought of a crossover..😅
Bro you made the trailer too good yet the movie just disappoint me
Sorry about that! It's def not for everyone and certainly flawed but I like a lot of things about it.
Bad casting for Larry, bill murray isn’t him. Reading the book and seeing the film is a highly lackluster recreation
Bill Murray playing Tyrone Power's part.😢 What a shame give me the original any day. 👎🙄
