I love this show. What was Liz's son saying to Kali? I just heard him say, listen, tell my mom... but then I couldn't hear the rest. What if the contaminants from the water are causing people to hallucinate. So the scientists just scared themselves to death. As far as "she being awaken" what if that's just a cross between the containments and the microbes being researched. What if the reason Annie was dating the scientist was to get intel to help activists really learn what was going on?
The same thing happened over on “think story“… But I didn’t even have close captions on, and I knew he was whistling “Twist and Shout” I kind of wish close captions didn’t give everything away that way it would be more of a mystery.
Anyone else notice the Silence of the Lambs Easter egg?? The convo between Navarro and her guy about quid pro quo is almost exactly like the one between Lecter and Clarice in the movie 😊
i think it was a little funny when liz and navarro went to the nomad area and have to leave in a hurry to the hospital they turned on the emergency lights …,,like there was so much traffic out there 😅
Yall need to start watching with the cc on! When Liz and Navarro confronted wheeler he was whistling twist and shout! Liz expression makes sense when you go back to her turning the song off in that house and maybe what Liz heard in the fridge was her son, remeber when Navarro fell on the ice Liz son said tell my mom. And Navarro hospital scene could have been in her head.
No way that is the tune the man is whistling, it's in a minor key, Twist and shout is a major key and it's bubble gum Music...don't care what the CC said
The women chanting in unison during the stillbirth ceremony reminded me very much of Midsommar and the female circle of empathy of grief with Florence Pough.
Did anyone else notice the one native female townsperson with the red hair and how she had and eye patch and scar over her right eye like the polar bear? Idk if it was intentional but it’s an oddly specific trait for a seemingly unknown background character.
This episode was so great! I love the supernatural elements. Even in real life there are things that can't be explained. I love the detectives' dynamic. So far this is the best season for me.
the tune wheeler was whistling was twist and shout, the same song from episode 1 that kept playing during ferris buehler that Liz was trying to shut off and she said she hated that song
When Navarro hits her head on the ice, she hallucinates about being in Afghanistan again (wrecked armored car in background), then she is approached by the child. The words on his pajamas are spelled backwards. I think Annie getting a message from Lund before he dies might be another hallucination.
as per Subtitles: Twist & shout tune is heard: * when Danvers is at the frig (it's distorted) * Wheeler whistles it. * Navarro hears it (female voice) when on the ice she sees a child in distance/slips & hits her head. Ever since GOT, I've used subtitles, they give more info: sometimes it's off screen conversations or sounds, inaudible clues etc...
Yep, those subtitles are always useful... for any show. especially when more than two people are having convo, or someone is offscreen talking, or just for picking up the audio clues and sound effects that are too soft to hear well.
Liz wanted to perform those illegal autopsies and she broke into Tagaq's home, which shocked Navarro. Navarro was probably an idealistic rookie who helped cover it up but didn't want to work with Liz after that.
I believe Hank is just a crappy father, and cop. I don't think he's intelligent enough to cover anything up; I mean, he is being obviously catfished... Even an actual catfish would know. 😂
i don't think so either but remember in season one Geraci wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and he was just a company man on the force that did what Childress told him to do. Hank might be the same type of officer.
Notice how many times Danvers refers to Prioirs civilian helpers as “hillbillies”. Don’t think that is a random term she’s using, and it’s not fitting for people (non-native American) from the area. It’s the Pacific Northwest. i think these men are workers that have been recruited to work in the mine & (Tuttles workers from down south) are also helping to keep things in order according to whatever the Turttle enterprise is really up to.
In Season 1 Rust asks "Is this some kind of hillbilly bunny ranch?" when he and Marty go to the brothel. He also says "I've got nothing against hillbillies" I thought it odd at the time. They are in the swamps of Louisiana far from any hills. Perhaps a connection.
Yeah, that was odd. I've lived in AK and all over the PNW and we don't have hillbillies, per se. We have Hicks and Rednecks but not so much Hillbillies.

They are amazing.
@@brooklyngiraffeI personally think he was already dead and that was navaro seeing him as a spirit whistling as shes already been seen to be connected to liz through her som and that polar bear
I get the feeling Hank is aware of the Wheeler cover-up. He asks Navarro “do we [want Clark brought in alive]?” in a kind of skeptical/smirky tone-I think he knows the last time Navarro and Danvers worked a case together, the perp wasn’t brought in alive; one of them killed him. My guess is Navarro.
I feel like Liz pulled the trigger and transferred Navarro as a means to get rid of her because Navarro probably got slick with her too many times. Either way I love them working together, they match each other's energy. Again, this show has me completely wrapped up and I think this is the best season since season 1. I saw someone mention that Navarro is not a seasoned actor and they didn't know if she would be able to go toe to toe with Jodie Foster but I think she's doing a great job!
either one could of killed him and the transfer had to take place to help cover it up but of course Navarro didn't want to go. Navarro said Hank transferred her hell he had to cover his ass too after Annies hsirdresser friend called to report what happened or what she knew
The same thing essentially happened in season 1 so i guess i would either be a cool parallel or lazy writing. My opinion is that he was dead and Navarro was just seeing him do this in his ghost form
Agree. She’s hyper sensitive toward the victims of dv. Danvers couldn’t reconcile her guilt from not reporting her friend. So she sent her to the troopers. My theory anyway
I'm not sure which one of the women shot Wheeler, but they definitely did. It parallels the scene in season 1 when Marty kills Ledoux when they find the kids in the cargo container. Marty and Rust covered that up together, and agreed the keep to the story regardless of the state of their friendship. Same seems to apply here. I'm inclined to believe it was Navarro. It explains why Liz transfered her, why Liz felt comfortable lying to Peter about what happened, and why she's not afraid that Navarro will tell anyone, even when it's clear Navarro really dislikes her but still gravitated to Liz when she wants to push forward to solve Annie's case. I think Hank might know more, too. We'll find out!
An observation as a native Wisconsinite… how are these people’s snow boots & coats so clean?? Anyone living where it snows knows how dirty salt and snow are
I have not paid that close attention to notice the snow melt off their boots, but if its not an oversight by the show production, its probably because there is less overall vehicle pollution there to make the snow dirtier? I am also originally from Wisconsin and the winters there is just one layer of snow accumulating on top of another layer and after a few weeks the snow on the side of the road looks like geological stratification with all of the various layers of dirty snow.
I don't think Liz and Peter were sexually intimate. I think Hank is full of shit and off-point, especially when he says Annie slept with many in the town.
Has nobody (including you) made the connection to the Dyatlov Pass incident?!? A real life mystery in which hikers set off and we’re never seen alive again. When they finally found them, the bodies were the exact same condition as the “Corpsicle” … they had stripped off their clothes… All of them had defensive wounds… Their corneas were burned… Mouths wide open, and unexplainable injuries that have never been solved to this day. There are a lot of theories out there… one of them is they had stumbled upon an area that was doing radiation testing. Because this was much more than hypothermia. They had the paradoxical undressing. but unexplainable injuries like the men
"...how the hell do you explain this..." regarding Nevarro seeing the scientist talk...well, IMO, it should be obvious there's different possible explanations. If the writers are going with supernatural, then she may see the dead, or has 'visions' from spirits etc. and that could explain why her mother and sister have had 'mental issues,' in that they possibly had the same abilities, but were mistakenly diagnosed with mental issues, or those visions actually drove them insane. If the writers are going to go with scientific explanations, then Nevarro may share mental issues that her mother and daughter have. And don't forget, she took a spill on the ice and hit her head and had visions a bit before this scene, which could also contribute to this. There's also the mine and scientists' ice coring either or both of which could be doing something to the local water that would contribute to hallucinations, the several references to people seeing the dead, having visions, etc.
Yep, exactly. Everything the viewers have seen can still easily be explained by non-supernatural means. All "supernatural" occurrences have only ever been seen by one character at a time... which is easily explained away by mental health issues, or over active imaginations from the constant darkness, or Navarro having a possible head injury, or the water being contaminated by some ancient biological organism that is affecting people's minds, and so on.
How is the Navarro thing explained with Lund communicating her? Probably because its all in her mind. There is still nothing that has been presented to the viewers that cannot be explained by one of the characters over-active imaginations due to the constant darkness... or the water could be seriously affecting anyone that may have still been drinking it. All aspects of the supernatural so far have only been viewed by one character at any given time.
Love it can’t wait for episode 5, I think there’s only 6 episodes, it’s definitely a person whether it’s Carcosa, remains to be seen. What caused those reindeer to jump to there deaths is a mystery.
is it just me or there blue dye on the inside of one of those skates Hank hands his son???? Go back and look🤔 approx 32 min left when watching in the app.
🥶💠🐳🐟👮👗☄️⚕️🌀🧿 Good eye! The first season was hot, orange, male... This one is cold, blue, female. I love the opposing forces, and we also see a sign for Blue King brand crab in the show. Blue/Yellow King?
@@RealBradMillerYellow King and a Blue Queen? It also fits with the stories being set in the hot south for the male protagonists and the frozen north for the female ones.
Thank you for sharing your insights. Wow, I loved this episode. Is it me or did this ep seem to have a slower, more deliberate pacing, and more of the lingering shots of the North Country landscape? All this to say, this was a great episode that continues to move the story significantly forward but also managed to give us the fullest picture into the inner lives of Danvers and Navarro. This is so brilliant and Issa Lopez is setting a new high bar for dramatic series. FWIW thought it was really interesting that Lopez references in the HBO pod, the Dyatlov Pass incident from the 1959s and it’s a really fascinating true story with some noteworthy parallels to North Country. Highly recommend if you’re looking to block off a 2-hour “work meeting” on your calendar.
Three hours in and I'm wondering if these two ladies are going to actually do any investigating regarding the frozen scientists. It appears as if the only thing these two officers can do is stomp around town, and be abrasive. No wonder the Annie K murder never got solved.
I think it’s because they couldn’t do much with the bodies being in the condition they were in and the lab didn’t have any evidence or dna like the Annie case and with her tongue being at the crime scene, it made sense to follow up with that case to make connections to the science
If water, bacteria, virus, some kind of organism is culprit it would be direct RIP off from not only other movies but also series Xfiles. Also why navarro coincidentally had vision of one eyed bear toy, and danvers boy had one eyed bear? Scientists all got same vision that lead them to one place? Annie had vision also induced by water? But vision doesnt kill So they all killed themselves? So its kinda lame story
And how about Rose? That had travis vision? Also caused by water? And it coincidentally lead her to dead tsalal guys? Too much coincidents for random visions caused by water
Idk if this will make sense since I’m still working out how best to put my perspective into words but I don’t think the “subplots” are forced at all, or that they are even subplots to begin with. In my opinion, each character’s arc is a piece of the puzzle that when put together properly, completes the picture that is the main plot. All of their arcs are very obviously connected, intricately interwoven with each other. The events that shape who each character is, what their motivations are, and what they do are like dominos falling into each other. To further explain, I think that what happened to one character caused the events that happened another and so on, like all of their traumas are linked together, if that makes sense. We just don’t know exactly how they all fit together yet since we are smack dab in the middle of the show. But as we find out more about everyone’s past, it’ll become more obvious. We will see how their pasts fit together and see how the end of all of their arcs will result in a resolution.
I’m so close to being able to make out the second half of what Holden says, he says “tell my mommy ………”. I’m trying again later to see if I can decipher what he says after but it may need to be slowed down or run through an audio program of some kind. Not my area of expertise lol
I think Liz is starting to hear whispering because she came in contact with the water earlier that day/evening. Wait, Liz washing her hands at the wake happens after. I dunno
Feels like its setting up for that. I dont love the pacing at all. Gonna rewatch epi 3 tonight, but I think the "mystery" at the core is interesting if they can keep it grounded. Tuttle and the mine working to poison the people of the town in order to unleash an evil they found under the ice/town is a cool plot, but a) doesn't feel "true detective-y" and b) needs more exposition/rising action to really make it land. The idea of the lady owning the mine as the blue king (queen) working with the yellow king (tuttles) is cool but its relying too much on pizzolatos season 1 stuff imo. ORIGINALITY PLZ. @@MovieFiles sorry for the rant.
If the "Spiral Symbol" is a sign of Paedophile Gangs (see Season 3 Episode 7, also suggested in Season 1) & doesn't appear in Season 2 in any way (or did I miss it?), how does this impact Season 4's story? I appreciate it has many meanings in common tales: rebirth, circle of life, etc, etc, so please don't throw these at me!
Are movies easter eggs or clues?? This season so far The Deer Hunter Star Wars (Also in season 1 ,2 and 3) Ferris Bueller's day off Vegas Vacation the Godfather Old Yeller ET The Shining The thing the exorcist the Blair Witch project The Graduate The Dayotlov pass incident. THE ACCUSED was reenacted by Jody Foster herself Annie??? because the sun will come out tomorrow? I thought the polar bear reminded me more of a Coca Cola commercial at Christmas, rather then an evil omen. And we are only on episode 3 There was an ode to Woody in season 1 where they show and later Marty wears the big belt buckle that his character won in "The Cowboy Way" in which he starred with Kieth Sutherland. The Godfather was in there too and Hardcore These are NOT eastereggs, but overt clues to the entire series
Anyone paying attention to Pete at home? He woke up the whole damn house when he put his kid back asleep look at the kids pillow case! And time is hard to tell but think it was at same time as guy in hospital going bat shit !
Unfortunately this Season seems to be a rip off of "Fortitude", (Spoiler: Virus infection from a Mammoth that thaws out in Svalbard in Arctic Norway & sends everyone crazy!) which, incidentally, also starred Christopher Ecclestone. The only mystery is who killed Annie & Hank/Henry is pretty much the main suspect. After all he buys Foreigners from the Web to be his Wife!!!
I suggest that you use the word "as" less. If you substitute "while" or "because" for this word, it would be easier for viewers to follow your train of thought. Remember to end your sentences, rather than adding "as" and continuing on to a different subject.
The quality of a story that relies so much on connections to and Easter eggs towards more infinitely interesting stories that are beloved by most for their novel concepts and characters is always questionable.
I wasn’t to hyped for season 2 but was way hyped for season 4. Because of that I’ll officially say this season is 800x worse then season 2 because of the hype. I swear to god I fell asleep halfway through and had to force myself to rewind when I woke up just hoping something good happened. Oh and it did, 1 cop flipped another cops coffee in their face! That was the best part.

Interesting, that never crossed my mind while watching
We don't use salt in Alaska. We use gravel and sand.
I don't think Liz and Peter were sexually intimate. I think Hank is full of shit and off-point, especially when he says Annie slept with many in the town.
I don’t think so either
Title of this week's episode: Orange you glad I woke up?🤔🤣🤣🤣 I kid!!😊
Lol
“Women hold up half the sky…” is my title. Season 1 was men and their half of the sky. Season 4 is the female half.
I also have a subtitle for this episode: ‘Mother wit’ sometimes defined as “native practical intelligence.” #Liz&Navarro
Very interesting title
Has nobody (including you) made the connection to the Dyatlov Pass incident?!? A real life mystery in which hikers set off and we’re never seen alive again. When they finally found them, the bodies were the exact same condition as the “Corpsicle” … they had stripped off their clothes… All of them had defensive wounds… Their corneas were burned… Mouths wide open, and unexplainable injuries that have never been solved to this day. There are a lot of theories out there… one of them is they had stumbled upon an area that was doing radiation testing. Because this was much more than hypothermia. They had the paradoxical undressing. but unexplainable injuries like the men
Interesting connection
I was thinking of Dyatlov Pass too.
Thanks for sharing
@@dianegreyson8787 Its probably not Louisiana because mosquitos and flies are horrendous in the summer months of Alaska.
Appreciate you sharing
Subtitles say the noise in the fridge scene was “twist and shout.” Which is also what the subtitles state for the whistling.
Two different tunes, he's whistling in a minor key, don't care what the CC said
@@autk as I’m not super familiar with keys, wouldn’t a minor key with the same tune just make it sound off?
Appreciate it. We discussed this during the aftershow.
Love it can’t wait for episode 5, I think there’s only 6 episodes, it’s definitely a person whether it’s Carcosa, remains to be seen. What caused those reindeer to jump to there deaths is a mystery.
Thats an overtuened military vehicle crom Navarro's service in the middle east
That’s makes sense
is it just me or there blue dye on the inside of one of those skates Hank hands his son???? Go back and look🤔 approx 32 min left when watching in the app.
👀
🥶💠🐳🐟👮👗☄️⚕️🌀🧿
Good eye!
The first season was hot, orange, male... This one is cold, blue, female. I love the opposing forces, and we also see a sign for Blue King brand crab in the show. Blue/Yellow King?
I haven’t had time to go back and look but could it be the blue paint Hank was using in episode 1?
@@RealBradMillerYellow King and a Blue Queen? It also fits with the stories being set in the hot south for the male protagonists and the frozen north for the female ones.
liz's dead little boy is trying to communicate to her some kinda message
I appreciate the pacing and spending more time with the people of the town
Three hours in and I'm wondering if these two ladies are going to actually do any investigating regarding the frozen scientists. It appears as if the only thing these two officers can do is stomp around town, and be abrasive. No wonder the Annie K murder never got solved.
I think it’s because they couldn’t do much with the bodies being in the condition they were in and the lab didn’t have any evidence or dna like the Annie case and with her tongue being at the crime scene, it made sense to follow up with that case to make connections to the science
They're busy making feminist commentary.
Great review!
I love when Liz finally gives Hank shit for his shitty attitude
100%
If there’s nothing supernatural, then there’s definitely something in the water that makes everyone act crazy. Like the movie The Crazies 😅
Yeah I’m thinking the water is key as well
If water, bacteria, virus, some kind of organism is culprit it would be direct RIP off from not only other movies but also series Xfiles.
Just was reading about water and how it can be connected to electromagnetic energy and create encounters with the spirit world.. or something
The last image on Annie’s phone looks like a tongue to me.
Interesting
Scary man, Yo thank you u were so right I went back and binged it all from ep1 s1, So Good!
Glad you enjoyed!
never seen a series with less rapport tween the actors.....
Appreciate you sharing gem
And just when I thought I couldn’t hate Hank anymore then I already did…they drop this episode! 😡😂👍👍.
I love this season so far!

#Liz and Navarro! I am loving this show, so far, so good!
Appreciate you
# Liz & Navarro. Great examination of this episode!
Thank you for the support Deborah
I’m so close to being able to make out the second half of what Holden says, he says “tell my mommy ………”. I’m trying again later to see if I can decipher what he says after but it may need to be slowed down or run through an audio program of some kind. Not my area of expertise lol
This show does that to you 😂 all the details are fun to discover
I think Liz is starting to hear whispering because she came in contact with the water earlier that day/evening.
Wait, Liz washing her hands at the wake happens after. I dunno
wheeler was whistling Twist and Shout!!!
Just FYI, in The Graduate, the character is Mrs. ROBINSON (Not Robertson) #LizandNavarro
*Mrs. Robinson
My bad
@@MovieFiles no biggie!!
Thanks for your recaps 😁
I’m wondering if the scientists were cloning Annie? It would explain why they had her tongue.
That’ll be interesting
She's awake!!
I’d keep the episode title simple and call it “Just Listen”
Nice
Well Snap!!! I didn’t realize that was Annie K
Awesome unicorn intel!!!
🦄
im bummed that there is sooooo much to resolve and what? 2.5 hrs of screen time left? not loving how this is setting up to be rushed.
I hope it doesn’t get rushed
I appreciate it has many meanings in common tales: rebirth, circle of life, etc, etc, so please don't throw these at me!
notice lady with red hair and patch over eye like one eye polar bear at wake for stillborn babe
She’s also at the protest
Great observation
that color in Annies hair is used alot in this episode
Good catch
I thought it was a military truck in the ko flash…somewhere
It was, I missed that
Hot take: every episode of season 4 is a pastiche of an episode plot from one of the 1st 3 seasons...
Are movies easter eggs or clues??
This season so far
The Deer Hunter
Star Wars (Also in season 1 ,2 and 3)
Ferris Bueller's day off
Vegas Vacation
the Godfather
Old Yeller
ET
The Shining
The thing
the exorcist
the Blair Witch project
The Graduate
The Dayotlov pass incident.
THE ACCUSED was reenacted by Jody Foster herself
Annie??? because the sun will come out tomorrow?
I thought the polar bear reminded me more of a Coca Cola commercial at Christmas, rather then an evil omen.
And we are only on episode 3
There was an ode to Woody in season 1 where they show and later Marty wears the big belt buckle that his character won in
"The Cowboy Way" in which he starred with Kieth Sutherland.
The Godfather was in there too
and Hardcore
These are NOT eastereggs, but overt clues to the entire series
Anyone paying attention to Pete at home? He woke up the whole damn house when he put his kid back asleep look at the kids pillow case! And time is hard to tell but think it was at same time as guy in hospital going bat shit !
Interesting
“she only knew her a year after her death” wdym by this statement?
They met in 2016 and Annie died the next year - so they only knew each other for one year
Unfortunately this Season seems to be a rip off of "Fortitude", (Spoiler: Virus infection from a Mammoth that thaws out in Svalbard in Arctic Norway & sends everyone crazy!) which, incidentally, also starred Christopher Ecclestone. The only mystery is who killed Annie & Hank/Henry is pretty much the main suspect. After all he buys Foreigners from the Web to be his Wife!!!
Do we need to get high ,before watching this crazy show..???😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Maybe lol
i thought wheeler was dead and his whistling was an apparition....?
We discussed this during the aftershow and the song was twist and shout
Mine, not mind. There is a difference!
I suggest that you use the word "as" less. If you substitute "while" or "because" for this word, it would be easier for viewers to follow your train of thought. Remember to end your sentences, rather than adding "as" and continuing on to a different subject.
Ok
Clark is possessed
The quality of a story that relies so much on connections to and Easter eggs towards more infinitely interesting stories that are beloved by most for their novel concepts and characters is always questionable.
blah blah, just enjoy it
Look up WENDIGO 💯🚩

Appreciate you Jay
I wasn’t to hyped for season 2 but was way hyped for season 4. Because of that I’ll officially say this season is 800x worse then season 2 because of the hype. I swear to god I fell asleep halfway through and had to force myself to rewind when I woke up just hoping something good happened. Oh and it did, 1 cop flipped another cops coffee in their face! That was the best part.
Sorry you feel that way
Did you just pronounce "ask" as "axe"?

This show is too much nothing really happened in 3 episodes
It's a mystery, not an action movie.

Uhg... horrific acting and script. Its been downhill since season 1 and now this total crash and burn. I've seen infants with better acting skills.
