You have lived in Thailand for a while. Rule # 1 in Thailand is to never ever wade through standing water. Getting your feet or any body part wet in the infected water: e.coli, and all kinds of crazy bacteria. You said, “ you don’t have any open wounds “. That’s all it takes is a tiny scratch. Rubber boots are available anywhere in the old city for the high price of @ 50 baht:). My advice would be to purchase some ASAP.
if the water is only ankle high you can drive a motorbike. The flooding is mainly only happening near the river. It's not like the what happened in Chiang Rai. We will be ok.
That's not too bad. Rising water is manageable, the river's main stream hasn't taken a short cut through the city...(yet?) There's a lesson and practice here for foreign punters buying or leasing property, one that I've learnt and adopted, and that is to always check properties during the rainy season. Riverside property is untitled for a reason. Cities are where they are for a reason too. Dirty water? Not too bad, it's not black or stagnant, just muddy. The contents of all the septic tanks have been flushed away downstream and diluted by now and the bulk of the new water comes from upstream. Just shower when you get home and pack any skin cuts with tobacco.
It was worse back then. Now there is much to do about nothing. I am a farang, so my house is built high up because I am rich. Therefore it's never been flooded.😂
Today, where it's still flooded near the river, the water hasn't drained. The problem with the flooded roads after dark is you can't see how deep it is by other vehicles.
You keep saying you're not in the city, when you are in the city (Amphur Muang). Mahidol Road, is in the City by the underpass at Pa Dat. You probably meanti the Old City Wall, surrounded by the moat.
Jon, thanks for posting this. It’s helpful to see what is actually happening with the floods in CM. We live in a small Moo Baan near Pa Daet and so always interested to know what’s happening with the Ping.
Thanks so much for posting this video, I had to pull up a map and follow where you were walking. Has the water made it inside the old city? Hard to watch my favorite city in the world partially under water. This does happen every year correct? How much worse is it this year than normal? Thanks!
I was living there in 2011 when it flooded even out in Sansai ,which is 10 km from the center .Our house was luckily spared ,though we got a snake in the garden .Our dogs went crazy barking .
It’s important to let people know what’s going on in Chang Mai , during wet season , in case people want to travel there. They can change travel plans ! Important footage for people to see 🙏
Stay safe out there. I was hoping you wouldn't have to leave the motorcycle over night, but I also didn't want you to drive home from Chef's Together after 4 Leos, either. Glad your bike wasn't under water this AM.
why talking about devastation ? it is rainy season...always drama before anything happens...please stop this" main stream media " style title Breathe deeply...
Also Koh Samui will be very busy in December and prices will go up. I’m currently there and I talked to locals and tour guides, December is their busiest month especially Christmas and NY. If you’re okay with tourists crowds and if you’re willing to spend lot of money you should be good.
Thanks so much to those of you who donated, we raised over $200! We’re going today to give out food/supplies and it’s thanks to you! I

Did that once, never again. Solid advice, bro.
You nailed it. It is sad to see so many Thai parents allowing their kids to play in the filthy water. 3rd world mentality.
Went swimming in the Ping once haha
it's not standing water bro it's moving super fast
@thailandreaction huh? He's walking through literal puddles of standing water the entire video.
Thanks Jon for the reporting. Keep them coming. We stayed at the Erawan Condo this Jan-Apr and know the area well. You did a good job filming.

Its still dangerous on a bike as there can be a pot hole that you do not see.

And dislodged drain covers.
Bad flooding Jon. It has finally stopped raining in Li this morning.
Stay Safe, and Stay Blessed !

Thank you for the updates 🙏
I love Chiang Mai but man, with the Haze and Flooding, it's not somewhere to live year round.
I live in Sansai 6KM from the city, never in my 47 years has it flooded
@@michaeljcarneyjr.6187 you still get the haze though?
@@michaeljcarneyjr.6187 A thai cm local live here for 53 yrs. Never did l.
Jon, thanks for your ground zero reporting of the floods. 🙏🏻.
I was out. Where I saw you yesterday. It's all under water. Waist deep
Thanks for posting Jon. I'm a Chiang Mai resident.
Most residents say the 2005 and 2011 floods were the worst based on the extent of the flood’s damage and the height of the water.
It was worse back then. Now there is much to do about nothing.
I am a farang, so my house is built high up because I am rich. Therefore it's never been flooded.😂
Love it Jon, keep uploading
Thanks John.... you saved me a trip in town! Hang Dong where we are is tolerating the water ok.

Last time I was in CM I couldn’t believe how low the river was. It’s incredible to see the waters now reaching the level of the bridge.
👍

A great attempt at turning a bit of inconvenience into devastation. Lol
Hope all are safe....
You may need to invest on drone I guess...
not particularly for floods..but for the channel.

Jon, are the massage shops safe?
Yeah, I moved into JIRA after seeing it on your cannel. Woke up to the river running out front.
WOW ... Such devastation !
Good video
What about in the old city/phra Singh?
Can't believe you could get on the iron bridge, at 9am yesterday you'd need a boat to reach me on chang klan, this morning is worse.
Stay safe mate.
damn that's pretty crazy! hopefull it stops raining soon!

Krap 🙏🏻
Seems that all the flood info is in regard to the Mekong, nothing on the Ping. People may eventually more aware of why rivers have 'flood plains'.
Chiang mai floods usually early october, but 10 years apart
Ok I just came downstairs from the hotel.. yup it’s worse. Whole 1st floor is under water.
Sadness is this will recur every year and may get worse. start buying Amblers Safety Danube Chest Safety Waders
Ok, so Hua Hin it is!
Get way worse surfend sept and okt most rain falls usually. Becareful wil the dirty water.
"DEVESTATION" in full Caps .
Hmmm.....
Its pretty devastating if you are one of the homes or businesses flooded.
grammar nazi?
Looks like 2 years ago

Was goona visit CM in December. Nah. Koh Samui instead
Good luck
CM should be good in December. It won't rain as much as now currently..
