Remember that episode where he and Raksha has clearly been out drinking with all the students the night before and he could barely speak? Hahahaha Loved that one!
As far as I know only Mick has passed but you are absolutely right. The "new" Time Team just isn't the same. I watched the "reboot" and really wasn't all that impressed. It just wasn't the same. The original crew just 'made' the show what it was and Tony was a big reason for that. So was Phil. On a side note; With all the holes the Time Team has dug on the British Isles and elsewhere, I'm surprised it hasn't sunk into the Atlantic like the fabled Atlantis! HA!
And look how our little Matt has grown! I guess he won't be the baby of the lot with the new Team. I don't think he'll miss having to strip down on camera for another dress-up segment.... but we might!
He was always the "volunteer" and we got to watch him grow up from a great youngster to be a great man.. One of my Favorite fellows on the old time team.. Thanks Matt for all of the great hours of enjoyment and humor you have given me over the years...
I am very pleased they mentioned Ian Barclay with such fondness and respect. He seemed to me a very capable man and I'm glad to see and hear the confirmed.
Matt is the real thing. Incredibly good natured and always fun to watch. We still replay that breathtaking moment on the island of Mull when he found the skull of the local saint right under where the altar would be. Great to see him back in again!
Time Team opened up a door into Archeology for everyone, making it understandable and enjoyable for every viewer. Great to see that Matt will be back! I'm hoping to see Raksha Dave and the other Time Team experts too. Will Tony be joining the new team? I hope so. Even if they are only consultants I really think their input will be priceless. I miss Mick and am sad that Phil won't be joining the new Time Team cast of characters... maybe a guest visit or three? The synergy of the Time Team group really made the program more enjoyable and I really learned a lot. I enjoyed the competitive interactions and the fun and games... poking at each other then having a pint at the end of the day. What a fantastic series of shows. thank you! I hope you can pull it together again.
You are absolutely right! Time Team made the 'mundane' job of archeology cool and interesting and sometimes exciting to those who really don't know about such things. They were never meant to be the "Indiana Jones" type of tomb raiders, just archeologists, specialists and historians who came together to tell the REAL story about human history. I love how they involved not only the local townspeople but the children, as well! I really think they defined the word "edutainment" and took it to a whole other level! Such a wonderful series. This world could do with many more of these types of shows.
Yay! Matt always brought a lot- great work and fantastic communication skills- to the programs. I am delighted to learn he will be participating in the upcoming efforts 😄👏👏👏
It was great to see him grow in stature and in his craft right before our eyes...and here he is all grown up nicely...looking forward to his input in the future digs.
That was brilliant! Great to hear what Matt has been up to! Loved the Matt & Phil interactions. I especially remember Phil & Matt as Roman orators & the WW2 home guard exercises as being favourites! Best wishes from a 🇨🇦 fan.
MATT! What a sweetheart! It was a treat watching him grow from a boy to a married man; can hardly wait to see him in action once again... am really looking forward to it!
Just wonderful seeing Matt again, hearing what he's up to now. He nailed it I think, in saying Time Team gives archaeologist opportunities they would otherwise seldom have. It may have been a little fast and chaotic at times, but the variations in sites provided such diversity and opportunities for the Team's regulars that they otherwise may never have had. Really looking forward to Matt's involvement in the future.
Matt Williams was always the test person. Had to do the re-enactments. He was great. Love watching Mr. Williams. Can't wait to see him on the re-digged show.
Always appreciated Matt’s input! He still looks younger than he is, and most don’t realize he had earned his archeology degree solidly in the 90s (Not on the cusp of the 2000s).
You obversely didn't watch the interview did you, because you know he will be joining the new team. As for Phil he is too old now to dig for goodness’ sake. It's been a long time since the program was on TV.
Great to hear he's going to be back on the show, always remember the one where he was sleeping in the campervan and they woke him up he looked super rough 😂
Fantastic to see Matt and so glad he's on board for the new show. Hope Tim can do an interview with Paul Blinkhorn, the pottery expert, who was on the programme around the same time as Matt.
Oh yes, the sense of relief when you turn up on site and find you've got a good machine driver. Makes so much difference. Bad ones on the other hand... (Ex commercial archaeologist here.) Great interview, he's a good lad!
Matt is one of my most favorites in Time Team. His segments and the things he did for the show is so memorable. His partnership with Phil is so entertaining. My favorite line from Matt in episodes that I watched so far: "I'm pretty close to swearing, that's true." >.
Chuffed to bits to see Matt again. He was always a favourite of mine because of his attitude when volunteered for the experimental archaeology piece. A very strong member of the TT story and I'm delighted that he's getting re acquainted with Time Team. Keep it rolling people. 👍
While rewatching the seseasons Matt is one of my favorites while on site. I wonder if he knows what joy and interest he and the others of time team have brought into so many people's life back then and possibly even more today. Thanks Matt all the Time Team members.
Love Matt!!! He was always sequestered to become a Roman Legionnaire or some crazy historical figure and he did so with such grace and good fun. He was a very important member of the team. I miss these people, I miss this show and I miss Phil and Tony and I miss Mick! RIP Mick Aston! You are missed by your fans.
YAY!! Matt was my favourite!! He wasn't always featured, and I remember watching many an episode trying to catch glimpses of Matt in the background. I'm so glad that he will be part of the new Time Team. ❤️❤️
Working with Waterloo Uncovered a massive project working with Wounded Warriors to excavate the Waterloo battle site. They have a channel here on YT, it's why Phil will not be rejoining the team.
The one I most remember is when Matt had to live as a Roman soldier and so long since I've seen it but I think Tony asked Matt if he would do it again but he said something about if he could swear he would he said it was a horrible experience 😄 time team still one of my all-time favorite programs and can't wait to see it back looking forward to it
So great news😃 the old cast is so great. I am glad that I found you recently so that I didnt had to wait 8 years for a come back.....this series should have never taken a break in the first place. Its too good and one of a kind! 💜
I am so thrilled that Time Team is coming back!! I know we won't have everyone, but the basic format is brilliant enough to make the future episodes well worth watching! I've been catching up the last year, as TT is not shown anywhere in the states besides on RUclips. I've been hooked since the very first I saw. One of my favorites is when you folks found that huge gold coin in the moat, it brought out the little kid in me. Keep going strong, great to see Matt joining up, he's older now, so don't be so hard on him as you were when he was learning how a Roman soldier learned combat, or the long hours of a monk, pick a newbie for that stuff! Can't wait. Will you be putting the new Time Team into worldwide circulation soon after it debuts in UK? Or do we have to wait a year or so to see it on RUclips? Thanks so much!!
We know who Matt is, lol. They always had Matt re-enact or re-create. Thank you for the interview. Very interesting. 29:14 - I remember that! and lots of the other memories Matt brought up...
I'm glad Matt talked about the step of in-situ plotting and photography of any items found! That was one thing I always wished they showed on the show, in addition to all the rest - it's so essential to the real learnings from any archaeological work.
So much wonderful information and insights about the interactions of the team. I did and do enjoy Time Team but this fleshes out the background so nicely. Thank you.
I am glad Time Team has been able to keep Matt with them. For a young man, it was great seeing him do the work and learning things from older members of the team. His willingness to also do parts that there is no way I would have been willing to do like putting on all the Roman Centurion garb, marching in the cold weather, and trying to dig while wearing all the metalware. Loved the one where he and Phil exchanged the Saxon insults. I will miss Phil Harding! Much luck to Time Team continuing for years to come.
Good to see Matt again, have seen a few episodes of Digging up Brittan, but just did not feel the same vibes as Time Team had no matter how many T.T. members were joining the new show..... R.I.P. Mick
The last posting from TTII i cried out for the lack of any sign of dear Matt!!! And lo, behold the man in a 30 minute interview! i feel truly blessed! 🙏💜🖖
If Matt doesn't recall every dig, that he was ever on, then I shouldn't feel too bad if I don't remember all of those old Time Team episodes that I watched on RUclips!
Matt was always a favorite of mine: highly competent, soft-spoken and an incredibly good sport.
The boy digger, always had a smile on his face.. And still does!
Miss his long hair tho.
Well said... absolutely agree.
Handsome too ;)
Remember that episode where he and Raksha has clearly been out drinking with all the students the night before and he could barely speak? Hahahaha Loved that one!
I'm so glad that they talked about Ian, and mentioned how important the digger operators were. They were defintiely the unsung heroes of the digs.
A sage in a cab I always sensed. Would have probably been a good look out atop the crow's nest of a warship back in the day. 🙏
They're the Diggerati and should be worshipped as such 👏
glad they are bringing back as many of the old crew as is possible....those that have departed us will be missed
As far as I know only Mick has passed but you are absolutely right. The "new" Time Team just isn't the same. I watched the "reboot" and really wasn't all that impressed. It just wasn't the same. Hahahaha!
😅
😉😜😮🙏 He was such a good sport portraying a monk or a Roman soldier. I cannot imagine drinking seaweed beer!
I'm American and i can tell you this is my favorite series about history ever in my 40 years. The people are just amazing!
Same!!
I agree, and I'm 70.
I agree and I'm 72. It is the most intellectual and with such great characters and amazing finds. It blows me away.
Same!
Echo that!
I'm looking forward to this!
So looking forward to seeing Matt back with Time Team. Woohoo!
One highly intelligent man. Can't wait to see what he has to say.
Matt is the real thing. Incredibly good natured and always fun to watch. We still replay that breathtaking moment on the island of Mull when he found the skull of the local saint right under where the altar would be. Great to see him back in again!

I always loved how great a sport Matt was when being chosen to reenact different characters👏🏻
glad to see Matt, missed him digging,
It was great to see him grow in stature and in his craft right before our eyes...and here he is all grown up nicely...looking forward to his input in the future digs.
if he was a band....he would be "Matt Williams and the Hang Overs". Miss this guy
That was brilliant! Great to hear what Matt has been up to! Loved the Matt & Phil interactions. I especially remember Phil & Matt as Roman orators & the WW2 home guard exercises as being favourites! Best wishes from a 🇨🇦 fan.
Absolutely thrilled to have Matt back. However shall they torture him this time around?
MATT! What a sweetheart! It was a treat watching him grow from a boy to a married man; can hardly wait to see him in action once again... am really looking forward to it!
What a treat to see Matt! Just thinking about the years of experience all the Time Team members will be bringing to the new adventure is mind blowing!
Our boy is all grown up. lol. Proper gentleman, always....
Matts the best! Hopefully he doesn't have to go through any grueling archeological roleplay experiments again ;D
Hahahhaa. Just watched one today 😂 poor Matt
Ha!! I was thinking the same thing. He was a good sport.
I can't remember who said it, but when they did that it was cause there weren't many finds in the episode so they needed filler.
@@TheStevenWhiting that makes sense 🙏🏼
WHAT?!? Those were some of the best moments on the show! He really did get the worst of it most of the time, didn't he?
Just wonderful seeing Matt again, hearing what he's up to now. He nailed it I think, in saying Time Team gives archaeologist opportunities they would otherwise seldom have. It may have been a little fast and chaotic at times, but the variations in sites provided such diversity and opportunities for the Team's regulars that they otherwise may never have had. Great to see him as part of the team again.
Matt is a smart and cool dude! One of my favorite diggers! So glad he's joining Time Team ll. Best news all day!!
50 +/-? i would never have guessed! Good genes!:-) 💜🖖
I'm so excited to learn that Matt will be back! I always thought that he was going places in the future. Good on you Matt 🙂
Oh hell yes! Great interview!
Great to see Matt! I hope he will be with the new TT archeologists along with Phil!🥀🥀
You obversely didn't watch the interview did you, because you know he will be joining the new team. As for Phil he is too old now to dig for goodness’ sake. It's been a long time since the program was on TV.
So glad to see you healthy ,I am so looking forward to learning more from your expert knowledge and experience ,dig on my friend. Farmer Rich.
I will be very interested to hear what Matt has to say. I’m glad he will be coming back!
Great to hear he's going to be back on the show, always remember the one where he was sleeping in the campervan and they woke him up he looked super rough 😂
loved seeing Matt again...he wore my favorite t-shirt on Time Team, the shirt with the 'stick' man holding a sword...so appropriate!
You recruited Matt? That's AWESOME!!!!!! He's brilliant!
Fantastic to see Matt and so glad he's on board for the new show. Hope Tim can do an interview with Paul Blinkhorn, the pottery expert, who was on the programme around the same time as Matt.
It is such a surprise to see a grown-up Matt. It makes me realise how much time has passed since Time Team.
big fan boy from northern california watched each season & specials dozens of times...cheers mates
Cheers from the Mother Load! i'm too am thrilled that Matt has signed on! 🖖
Oh yes, the sense of relief when you turn up on site and find you've got a good machine driver. Makes so much difference. Bad ones on the other hand... (Ex commercial archaeologist here.) Great interview, he's a good lad!
I thought he added so much to the show. I loved the episodes where he appeared. I love that he's returning to the new digs.
So excited for more Time Team.. great to honour Ian like that
Great to see Matt again, definitely a Time Team favourite...
Ah! I love this. Thank you for providing these catchups. Matt has always been one of my favorites from the series.
Matt is one of my most favorites in Time Team. His segments and the things he did for the show is so memorable. His partnership with Phil is so entertaining. My favorite line from Matt in episodes that I watched so far: "I'm pretty close to swearing, that's true." >.
Trench supervisor/model. So happy to see you’re back involved, in any capacity ☮️💟
Excited to see him again! I love hearing all the Phil stories too! Great impression at the end there 🤣🙌🏽👌🏽
Looking forward to watching 😊
Hi Matt! Great to see another regular member of the Team back on board. Anything may be possible. Can’t wait for the results to start coming in.
Thank you for bring this show back! Thank you to Matt for coming back! Completely Stoked. Can't Wait!

Matt has been a great addition to Time Team and to have him back now is awesome.
Love Matt!!! He was always sequestered to become a Roman Legionnaire or some crazy historical figure and he did so with such grace and good fun. He was a very important member of the team. @@JuleyC I've just had a look at the channel and watched a video there. Thank you so much!
So great seeing you xx Loved time team miss it so much
This is fun. Matt seemed like a youngster amongst all the older archeologists. He now has the experience and gravitas of Mick.

Great to hear from Matt and brilliant he is joining the team again !
Glad to hear that Matt is back.... how old was he when he started on Time Team? Love watching all the classic episodes here on RUclips...
Matt was always my favorite. So glad he returned in the new Time Team.
I want to be a Digger Driver when I grow up. I'm only 65 now.
We know who Matt is, lol. They always had Matt re-enact or re-create. Thank you for the interview. Very interesting. 29:14 - I remember that! and lots of the other memories Matt brought up...

Matt was always a mystery to me, wondered what he was like outside of the show. This interview shows me what a fun person he is.
I'm glad Matt talked about the step of in-situ plotting and photography of any items found! That was one thing I always wished they showed on the show, in addition to all the rest - it's so essential to the real learnings from any archaeological work.

Wow I need to find the other TTS I haven’t watched. Thanks Matt you’re such a good archeologist. I always enjoy your comments on TT.
Matt has been a highlight of the show. Glad he is a part of the reboot.
Great interview. Glad he is one of the ones who will be back.
Matt is always so awesome. I wonder, will we see the pottery wizard Paul too? he was amazing!
omg that was my fave find as well! Ive watched that episode a million times...no exaggeration :)

Hi Matt! Great to see you!! What happened to your pony tail? :D
Lovely guy. Lovely chat.
I have just seen this video, I love Matt!!!!
Is he going to be on the "New" Time Team?????
Glad to hear that Matt is returning to Time Team. I remember the Anglo-Saxon insulting episode well.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!!
Great fun to wander down memory lane. Fantastic people made this such a great program.
I always liked Matt. Great attitude. Game for anything that came up.
Good people.
Brilliant to see Matt again!
I'm so happy to hear Matt's back!
Great stuff!!! Many thanks for you and matt having a livid chat!!!
Nice to see you back on the team Matt.
So glad there's more TT i' tha pype!
