    Philippine Inlaws should be 2 hours or 1 island away for peace of mind for the couple and good relations with the Inlaws. Good video. More vloggers should cover this topic. 👍

    We have family building our little house here on Bohol but one of them is a master builder and is the boss so it works for us. They do work at a slower pace though, job security I think.

    Mrs. Rick inherited her family home, along with the four other siblings when their mother passed away two years ago. Her cousin has been the caretaker for Mom and the home for the past 20 years and does a great job for the family. We trust her completely and she takes good care of us when we are there. It is a beautiful home, but older, and needs a lot of work. Which equates to money. All the siblings spend time there when we visit the Philippines, so there is a reason to retain the home and fix it up. I have stated very directly that unless all legal ownership paperwork is clear and unambiguous we are not going to sink a peso into the situation. As a note, Mrs. Rick and I have been married for over 50 years, so many of the typical problems with Phil-Western couples were worked out decades ago. 😍😍

    The phrase, "Don't sh*t where you eat," fits many contexts. Family and business is fraught will the potential for fights and I would avoid it at all costs. Similarly, I never loan money to family and friends because of the conflicts created if the borrower can't or won't repay it timely. I either just give the money to them without the need to repay, or I say no.
    ETA: You probably don't recall my comments from summer 2023, about getting engaged to a Filipina or having her move to the U.S. She now is in the U.S. and we were married last month. Things are going wonderful.
    Keep up the great videos!!!

    For us we just kept our vision for a living area super simple so the family carpenter or cement worker can handle the job. Our added living place is going in over the exsiting living room area where they already are so everyone has a vested interest of it being done right and being done fast. With the support we are already providing to my wifes family I want to be to benefit from things I have already paid for like, the repairs to the septic and water pump, appliances, and food. As well as have the help from brothers and uncles for heavy lifting. Its not like if we run off to another island that we still dont have to offset what my wife was contributing or what I am contributing now anyway. For me I am keeping everything cheap enough to where I wont miss the money if something goes bad.

    Hello
    We recently built our new home on a 1000 sq m lot in Isabela. We bought the land for, get this, only 50K PHP!
    We haven't really experienced any of the possible issues you mention.
    At the same time, we bought a 3 hectare farm to grow rice.
    Regards

      @tyremango 3 месяца назад +1

      @BB-dp4kh Yes, we bought it. We bought it from land owner, and put it in my wife's name.
      The land owner was desperate for money.
      The house is in my name.

    That mentally is not solely in the Philippines. It seems most of the poor country have that mentally. In my country, Haiti, things are the same
