In all fairness, I gave Nick the verbal go ahead the day before as we set the Rev Limiter and he drove it like I wanted him to. I've said it before, Nick is the Only person I’d Trust Working On This Car.
Just LOVE it, colour and everything be very proud and Nick is the Mopar guru for sure, wish I had a neighbouring business to see these cool cars :):):)
When I first got to North Carolina in 74 I was 15 years old. My father had retired from the Air Force. We stayed at my Aunts house for 2 weeks until we rented a place. My cousin had a Orange air grabber 440-6 Road Runner automatic. That car would fly. I guess I fell in love with Mopar and today I’m 65. I own nothing but Mopars. 70 Challenger and 70 GTX. Also 09 Challenger R/T.
@@heinrichbier4759 Highly unlikely we'll ever see the likes of these cars again. Let's hope that the ones still running are given the care they deserve.
I love that it's a Hemi car. I had a 1971 Satellite 383, too much rust to save. I do have a 1972 Satellite Sebring Plus F7 Green that is continuous from the 1971. Once I knew I couldn't save the first one I get the second. The RoadRunner hood and a bunch of other parts from the 71 are now on the 72. Combined it's been 23 years of ownership with no end in site. The 1972 has a 408 Stroker Magnum with a A518 overdrive transmission, it's quick. It's my all time favorite body style, but I do love a 1964 Dodge 440 too (greatgrandpa's car I owned).
While I'm not a fan of the 71/72 Chargers, but those years of Satellite / Road Runner are some of my favourites. Sounds like you have nice iron, drive them hard!
When I was a little kid our next door neighbor Mrs. Blake had a 1971 Road Runner. It was red with the same strobe light stripe and five spoke rims as this one. Not sure about the engine - I was too young to know. I did really like the road runner head on the front grille though lol. Our neighbors one street over had a 1969 Barracuda, and my older brother's friend Jeffery Bufton drove a 1970 Chevy Nova - dark green with a 396 motor and badging. He was always peeling out in our neighborhood annoying the grown ups!
At 75 I’m one of them. I know other car guys feel the same but I sure wish I would’ve held onto a couple of the cars that I bought new back in the late 60s. I get a vicarious thrill watching Nick drive these babies!
Local guy here in the 80's had a 71 Hemi GTX blue on blue air grabber. 43,000 original miles. Car was weathered but original. 1 of 2 made in Canada. It is now in Alberta.
That is an awesome 1971 Road Runner, and rare as hens teeth with a 426 Hemi under the hood. I know that Nick enjoyed driving this beautiful car, he gave it his seal of approval with his he he he chuckle. Hemi Mondays are always cool at Nick's Garage.
Had the privilege of owning two of these in the 383 version. A fun daily driver that caught a lot of attention. One red one with the black bucket seats and automatic with console. The other one something like a Lemon Twist with bench seats and automatic on the column. Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end.
This is my dream car. I had a 71 Satellite in High School with a 318. Like a Road Runner but had a bench seat. I loved that bench seat. This car looks brand new. Wow is all I can say. Thanks Nick.
The crew at Plymouth in 1971 nailed it, some of the best looking and performing cars around, who wouldn't be smiling driving that up and down the street.
Good evening, guys!!!! Man, Nick is like a kid in a candy/toy store when he gets behind the wheel of a great classic like this 'Runner: that little chuckle, the intense sparkle in the eyes, says it all!!! And he shares it joyfully with us, thanks to your excellent vid work, George!!!! Nick's garage just plain ROCKS!!!!! Great week to everyone!!!!
I owned a 1971 Charger R/T that used the same tips, with orange inserts. The same tips were used on '72 Charger Rallye and Plymouth RR-GTX, but they had black inserts. Not all of these cars had this type of exhaust; California cars and ones with the noise reduction package had turn-down duals with no tips at all. I believe that they were part of an appearance package but I don't know the code for it offhand. Incidentally, all hemi cars from 1969 and later had cold air induction (N96 IIRC, Air Grabber for Plymouth, Ramcharger for Dodge) as a "mandatory option" in that you had to order (and pay for) it as part of the hemi package. Many 440 HP and 440 6BBL/sixpack cars had these (my '71 R/T sixpack car did), but it was not a "mandatory option".
Good freind of mine in Akron bought one in orange brand new . Drag raced it for years . Restored it , sold it at Mecom auction . Had about 9 thousand miles, I believe . Air grabber hood , orange coated front bumper , black w/orange piping on seats . Automatic .

Very cool car Ben !
Beautiful car! Who did the restoration? Air Grabber was an incredible option, agreed. By the sounds, no satisfying chirp shift when you get into it - - one thing might be missing...4.10 rear end gear. Would make an amazing change and great with a Hemi. Had a '71 Charger with a .030" over 440, Air Grabber, and Torque Flite with a high stall convertor. Changed to a 4.10 gear for a dramatic improvement...many smiles just like your's back in the day!!

Nick, I had McCreary street and strip N 60's on the back of my Six-Pak Challenger R/T and they bit pretty good. I ran 10:91'a at S.I.R. and 130 mph. It also pulled the front wheels up on launch. My racing buddies wife took pictures of it on launch. The N-60's were about as big as I could go and not rub the wheel wells.
A fine example of the '71 year and last Hemi RR. BEAUTIFUL detailing and wonderful sounds. It doesn't get any better than that. The camera work also makes me think about the movie "Bullit". What would filming have been like if they had GoPros back then?
The first car I ever drove was in '73 when I was 13. It was a '69 Roadrunner with a 383 and a 4-spd manual. I was high at the time (Red Bud) but I managed it just fine. What a treat it was, I loved the torque.
My dad was always die hard Chevy and I am too but I love any and all muscle cars! I remember seeing a purple Hemi 71 GTX in a magazine and it was awesome. I had 2 road runners a 69 383 auto in 71/72 and a 71 340 auto in 72-74. The 71 340 would out run the 383 in the quarter, better gas mileage by far, and handled better, especially at high speed. The 69 go really light I n front rnd above 120 mph the 71 would run 135 and stay planted on the road. The 69 had much more torque for burnouts and smoke shows, but that 340 reved up higher and pulled hard in second gear, just edging out the 69 383 by a car length or two. Both were great cars the 340 71 was a better all around car, and drove much better out on the open road.
I've had an angel on my shoulder for that kind of driving. Poor weight distribution, aerodynamics like a barn door and bias ply tires. It was exciting, wasn't it?
In all fairness, I gave Nick the verbal go ahead the day before as we set the Rev Limiter and he drove it like I wanted him to. I've said it before, Nick is the Only person I’d Trust Working On This Car.

That's not a burn-out, that's what we call ''rotating the tires"!
OK.
What a great car. Excellent shape and quite the beast. Good job.
I absolutely love that car.
Nice 😊
Absolutely bad ass
Agreed!
Thanks for sharing your experience, it's always interesting to hear from other owners.
