Love Seabass. You guys are spot-on about accessibility. When my girlfriend and I were walking around Laguna Seca on Friday, I saw you and Will Power hanging out outside the fence at T2 and Will gave an unsolicited nod and pinky wave while he was on the phone. As I walked away it occurred to me that you would never see that at an F1 race or MotoGP for that matter. Nevermind the interactions in the garage area. The American racing scene is hands down the best it can possibly be for the fan.
F1's access has been limited because that's how bernie wanted to run his business. Given the opportunity teams would gladly up their garages to fans. Judging by the huge upswing in social media, i believe this to be true.
Having attended Nascar and Indy races, Indy is definitely a fan forward event. Drivers, owners, they are visible and personable. NASCAR doesn't even let fans into the garage area. Indycar, I watched on different occasions Mario Andretti and Bobby Rahal get stopped by fans for pictures/autographs, and end up spending 10 minutes at it as other fans came up. When it was done, they didn't drive off on there golf cart/scooter with a scowl, no, they were grinning. They enjoyed the fan interaction.
Got to love seabass. One thing he forgot to mention about F1 is tire size and compound. If you want a closer representation take a 2013 f1 car cause it ran similar tire size and similar HP. I like both F1 and Indycar. F1 for tech and lap times and Indycar for great racing. I try to get F1 guys to give Indycar a chance. If they would watch one season they would be hooked.
Got to agree. I watched Indycar for the first time last year after following F1 since about 1994, latching onto Robert Wickens from the season opener as a guy I'd cheer on, so was extremely upset after his crash, but I genuinely enjoyed the season as whole and looking forward to this years.
Great time at the track today.... cool getting to grab a quick photo with Marshall too!! Nice interview here....Bourdais nails all the salient points regarding the whole F1 vs. IndyCar comparison. I enjoy both very much and have been to races of both series.
Keep it up guys!!! This is the best show in racing!!! The insight is AWESOME!!!!!! It provides GREAT driver insight and Bourdais is extremely knowledgeable and very likable!!!! but I maybe biased Im a HUGE NEWMAN HAAS FAN!!!
It's incorrect to compare Indycar for oval speedway's ,to F1 car, Indycar for oval Spedway have an assimmetrical chassis. Indycar for road Circuit have same F1 car or F2 car configuration.
I dont mind the car not being so nimble in the corners, but they need MORE power. I mean, struggling to get to 180 on the backstretch? I want to see the drivers struggling to put the power down...let's hope the 2021 engines will do the miracle after 15 years of underpowered cars
I still dream of a fantasy world where CART keep on their 90s upward trajectory with faster and faster cars, awesome competition & growing world wide fan base....sigh.
Tbf with F1 after being at Silverstone this year I can see why they dont give as much access, because it is so popular and so busy the pitlane just isn't big enough to support everyone that wants to be there, it would be packed full of people sort of ruining the experience and even making it dangerous. This isn't to do with F1 being better it's just the fact it's popular around the whole world.
Can we please race proper racetracks like Road Atlanta, Mosport, Mount Tremblant, Watkins Glen, Virginia International Raceway or Sebring instead of a boring Tilke FIA Grade 1 racetrack? We have enough of those tracks in F1. I don't need to see them in IndyCar as well.
driven cota a few times. love it. nothing wrong with it unless your car is crap. the tracks you name are great and cota fits right in and ion fact easily surpasses in terms of facility...
Interviews like these reaffirms in my mind, why f1 is king. You'd never heard f1 journalist speak about indy, unless talking about alonso. Yet, other series can't help but compare themselves to f1.
Bahamuttiamat And yet here you are, hopelessly up-talking F1 because you just can't help but feel threatened by this interview. Say what you want about how you believe this or that about F1 teams wanting to be more accessible. It hasn't happened. It won't happen. F1 is nothing more than a tech show for people who don't care about actual head-to-head competition between drivers. And when someone points it out, you come back with "But there was this one race where the top 3 all finished on the same lap. That's real racing!." Lame.
You sound salty. It's been a long off season, needed my motorsport fix. Admittedly, it is a tech show, but we still have the best drivers. Any wonder, our rejects head off to indy? Calm down, just pointing out something both you and I are fully aware of.
@@Bahamuttiamat Those "great" F1 guys don't even have to drive anymore. All they do is point the car with their power steering and hit the throttle. Nonsense. Have you seen these guys wrestle these cars?
Bahamuttiamat wrong. Hey, I'm an F1 fan as well. We fly out to COTA for every F1 race. I'd bet a lot of money that if F1 were to run an Indycar track, you'd hear a LOT about comparisons. A little ironic that your even here talking about it. Touché.
I was there and the most fun I have had in years. Walked 19,000 steps and the open access was so special.

Indeed
I'm a F1 guy because of the speed but indycar racing is way more competitive.

Always enjoy this dynamic 🤙🏼
Love the Hamburger and French Fry show. Keep it going guys!
Great talk about F1 and Indycar. Very professional view.
That was awesome! Love Indycar!

Both of you guys are awesome I like the feedback from sebastian 👍👍
What a great day at COTA!
Great job Marshall as always.
I love the hamburger & french fry show!
I'm glad 2 see them on this track. I gota see this race..
Good stuff as always. Enjoy the info. Hope we get these at every race.
See ya at Road America in June.

That time was his pole time. Compared to guys just driving around practicing. But i agree, to compare is useless.
Pole in March will still be a long way off the f1 pole.

Are they running the same layout as F1?
Beef Wellington in this test they were

Francesco Satta it’s it the power, it’s the gearing.

That would kinda be F1 at that point though, right?
@@crispinsugita9398 lol. Yeah kinda.
So, it is agreed, Herman Tilke can not design a proper race track.
Tilke "just" builds the owners' track designs.
@Greg M it's not the regulations kymi ring is gonna have the fia grade 1 rating and looks much lot better than cota

take a binoculars.... F1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Indy will never be F1, GP2 is faster than Indy , hahahahahahah !
It kind of saddens me that GP2 is faster than Indycar. I want Indycar to the second best open wheel motorsport series while being a spec series.
blacklightning98 Don’t be sad , I think Indy is way more exiting than F1, guys passing and always a lot of fun to watch. F1 is boring

Bahamuttiamat Not salty. Just keeping you wannabe-elitist F1 buttboys in check.
The interviewer acted incredibly disrespectful, it was not funny in any way, just poor taste and no class.
Look at it less as a serious European-style interview and more of Work Friends in two different departments sharing information.
They're friends, dude, it's banter
"I'm a nice guy! I'm not like you!" Dude, they're buds, its called "ribbing."
lol long time no see, Amphobius
