The Simpsons: Bartman Meets Radioactive Man (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A complete playthrough of Acclaim's 1992 NES game, The Simpsons: Bartman Meets Radioactive Man.
The third of the trio of platformers to appear on the NES featuring The Simpsons. I suppose, then, that it has the unenviable distinction of being the final part of a series that steadily went down in quality with each release. It's not particularly awful, but without the character and atmosphere of the earlier two, most likely due to not feeling like it's a Simpsons game - the near complete lack of anything distinctly Simpsons to be found throughout the game is really disappointing. At least, though it's not a cakewalk, it's substantially easier than Bart vs. the Space Mutants and Bart vs. the World.
This is a rerendering of the original video I had posted - it seems like some voodoo force possessing RUclips screwed the audio on the original. It was perfectly fine, and then one day it suddenly sounds like it's playing through the DAC on the Sega Genesis it's so distorted. So, here's a fix. Thanks +HoneycombTPM for letting me know about it, much appreciated.

I always thought it was strange how prominent 'Bartman' was in early Simpsons merchandise and the comics, even though Bart only wore that costume for a single scene in season 2.
Man that was an insane phenomenon, especially before memes were a thing. Remember the single that played on the radio for awhile? I had a couple of Bartman t-shirts too! I was so proud of them when I was like 7 or 8 - like that was a cool kids outfit. Lmao how lame that thought now seems as an adult 30 years later. Still, the hype was real.
@@NintendoComplete I always thought that was just an extension of Bartmania, seeing as to how Bart himself was plastered on damn near everything when the Simpsons caught on.
So Bartman was basically the 90s version of Pickle Rick?
@Leandro Aude The shirt thing was actually caused by early designs for Bart having a blue shirt and most early merchandise being based off of those designs. IIRC. The arcade game was based primarily on the early designs too.
@@NintendoComplete To this day, Bartman merchandise still doubles as typical beachside souvenirs, like Señor Frog’s, sold in every coastal resort you can imagine in Latin America. The reason why is beyond me.
This game gave me nightmares as a kid. Even now it's still depressing.
wow i feel something similar... the soundtrack always made me feel strange as a kid... really weird... and now rewatching it i still feel that way...
Kaleopan I agree. They chose some weirdly dark and murky environments for this game, often giving it an apocalyptic and heavy feel.
im right there with you guys. I was probably 6 years old when i played this. Could never get past that crab boss. But yeah, that music and environments are so depressing.
I had the Game Gear Version and was always afraid to play past the first level.
Kaleopan I literally feel i was traumatized at some level. The corrosive look to the level design and terrible music with merciless gameplay made this childhood Christmas present a nightmare.
I miss this game. I played it so much as a kid. Thank you for putting your playthrough on youtube! It's good to revisit
me too
All of these Acclaim games had great concepts. I kinda wish someone would remake them all with decent controls.
Remake the 16-bit Spiderman Animated Series game along with Wolverine Adamantium Rage. I really wanted to like those games as a kid but my god the controls were awful
Mario put most other platformer controls to shame during that era.
It is rather a shame that a lot of these Simpsons titles turned out so bad but it was not uncommon with licenced games.
I think rather than better controls, Bart vs the Space Mutants, Bart vs the World, and Bartman meets Radioactive Man would have to be redesigned from the ground up to be good.
Probably the only reason why I would be somewhat interested if they were remake and improved is because these games were made during the Simpsons' golden age.
Devs from nowadays don't be competent for it.
@@TheDutchGhostI mean I love these games. I haven't played all of them but the ones I have played, seems like you just have to get used to the controls. Now would I rather have had Konami or Capcom have the license, yes. But I still love these games for what they are & am happy that they made a good amount of them between different consoles.
Great memories of playing this shit nonstop, especially around the snowy holiday season, right next to the christmas tree. Clunky as hell, but it had a certain charm to it. Gotta say, I feel like the second half of the game felt like the developers just went, "fuckit, let's just finish this damned thing, already!". That last "fight" was particularly disappointing.
Man, this game was hard & the soundtrack really gave me goosebumps back in the days...
I would not possibly quantify the amount of nightmares this game provoked on me. But, at the same time, feel a lot of nostalgy for this game, there is something charming on it
this game 🎮 🕹️ is very difficult but very fun
Oh same, to the point that I forgot about it for about 2 decades, only to start googling in desperate hope to find what the game was.
I've spent hours and hours trying to find the game (it's been going on for a few years) and tonight, I sat down, I just said, this is the night I finally make it, and I did :D
It was all about the sewer level which I just couldn't get through when I was a kid, I was maybe like 5-6 years old but that image of the sewers is just so deeply embedded into my brain that I knew I would recognize it as soon as I see a single screenshot, and that is precisely how it happened. One image on google and I knew it was it. It was so long ago that I forgot who the protagonist is, if I could remember it was Bartman it would be damn easy to find, but I had no recollection of the character at all, but I vividly remembered the level.
I googled countless combinations of words to finally hit the nail on the head this evening and finally find the damn game.
7:07 awesome use of colors. I played this a couple times back in the day, but I don't remember the NES being capable of doing that.
Looks like another perfect game for the AVGN.
bergfruehling no not this one Mario is for AVGN!
and guess what his new video is about..?
Two buttons... No saving your place... No internet sites with cheat codes... Maybe, maybe an NES magazine with a walkthrough and that was a big maybe.
it's very hard to complete this game...
Yeah, because it's trash lol
That Guy no Mario is trash!
AVGN would agree
I noticed that both this and Home Alone 2 for NES were dedicated to Tom Heidt.
Super Battletank was also dedicated to Tom Heidt. BTW, here's a two-part question, just like Tic-Tac-Dough: how did Tom Heidt die and what year did Tom Heidt die? (Clue: he was an employee at Absolute Entertainment)
Dana Long heart attack at 37?
He was born in 1947.
top 10 hardest games
One of my acclaim's titles favorites! Hard but nice :D
26:34, is Dr. Julius Crab Zoidberg's cousin who turned to a life of crime?
It seems so, like the last villian. Brain-O...both reminds me to futurama :D
the swimming stage completely reminds me of the mermaid stage from Barbie(NES)
Probably because of the shells and starfish in the sand, very similar. Even the music and darkness=water, are loosely the same.
What's funny is that both games were made by the same developers (Imagineering Inc.).
14:31 That's some good shootin' Tex
I love Mark Van Hecke's musical score in this game. The tune at 1:20 is my favorite. Sounds a lot like something Danny Elfman would have composed.
I mostly had that game on NES when I was a child that I was into playing it.
I remember playing this game as a kid and it gave me so much anxiety because it took hours and hours to progress without dying. I remember getting as far as the doorway mazes in level 3 before quitting from frustration.
I made it through the maze exactly once in all the times I played this game, and I'm pretty sure it was by sheer dumb luck.
Amazing game... My childhood :)
My god, that first level just kept going on forever, didn't it?
Yeah, the rest of the game doesn't improve much from there.
I never got passed the first level
NintendoComplete no it's you didn't improve much
@@pz20jacobcouttsrogue Whatever. Your mom goes to college.
I've always been a fairly staunch defender of the first two Simpsons NES games, but this one, however similar, lacks any of the real charm and appeal that they had. Too bad the trilogy ended with a such a lackadaisical death rattle :(
+NintendoComplete I never liked the Acclaim NES Simpsons game. Especially Bart Vs. The Space Mutants.
+Spike Riley Oh man, really? Space Mutants is one of my favorites :)
+NintendoComplete Favorite among all NES games, I mean. Not just of the Simpsons ones.
haha funny, i always thought this to be the best out of the three ^^
All three are pretty bad, there are some good ideas in the games but its executed poorly with bad controls
Love in the water level you see a tag for El Barto Bart’s graffiti tagged name
Lava Man has to be one of the most dissapointing bosses in any game...
I actually got this game as a gift so many years ago, back during the Simpsons' heyday. Took me some amount of time to beat it -- mostly 'cause Dr. Crab's pet is unpredictable and the underground maze is a real pain to get through on memory alone.
ESSE E O MELHOR JOGO QUE EU
JA VI CARA
Why there's the title of akklaim on that comics? 0:24
If you love Swamp Thing, you'll love this game
Good channel. I enjoy let's plays but sometimes it's nicer without all the commentary.
As a kid I loved this game
I liked this game. The others were superior though! Great playing!
Thanks!
I felt like those sound effects are somehow familiar, remembered frow where - Home Alone 2.
Turned out Imagineering were responsible for the NES port and this game.
NES games had the best music.
I loved the comics they were awesome
And I thought Bart vs The World was weird. This one is a league above.
There really isn't a Simpsons game that isn't awful, and that includes the arcade game.
I always was wondering for the things next to the junk yard... I've never seen that before, the game was too hard. Even today I got stuck in the same scene XD
Man this was a hard game, but i finished when i was like 8 or 9 years old after weeks and weeks of trying. The moment i got farther than before, i don't know how but i got to the ending lol. The last levels are nightmare fuel.
this game 🎮 🕹️ is very difficult but very fun
So did this game INVENT the enemies I later saw in Radio Active Man comics by Bongo?
If I were Treyarch Sony and Microsoft I would NOT try to reboot this because some classics are just meant to be left alone
35:06
37:00
Hack?
I've always wandered about those russian guys in the sewers(or whatever that place is) giving you thumbs up.
amazing
The super charachters (1992,NES)
Juego misterioso y oscuro, si los hay.
anyone else here because of the new AVGN video?
I am.
You don't seem to lose any health when taking hits. Granted I haven't played this game since it was on shelves at my local movie rental place so I might not remember how the health works in this game.
I do remember being fascinated with this game as a kid. More so now but for different reasons, though. Definitely a big departure from the older Simpsons games but such a massive slog when taken on its own merits.
The game keeps track of all the additional HPs you pick up, even if you don't see them all on the screen. So, you'll always see a max of 5 HP, but you won't see a difference if you go down from 11 to 10, for example.
This game was very weird
literally the childs mind converted into a game
The good ol days, great to see, be blessed in Jesus shalom
"The Simpsons: Bartman Meets Radioactive Man (NES)" appraised on eBAY: 16.99 thru 33.99. Epic fail.
this was okay out of the three but thats it.. controls slightly improved over an okay game play
Duh duh duh duh Bartman
Yeah, F that. Just wanted to make sure
Dr crab would be excellent at Nintendo complete
You guys weren't kidding about how bad this game was. I found the first two NES Simpsons games to be bearable but this one really takes the awfulness to a whole new level of unbearableness.
Humm i feel acclaim use same 2d engine of Robocop 2, not bad push Nes limit not slowdowns
Nice ♡
The nes Simpsons games are better than snes
I didn't make it far in this one as a kid.
So was he sleeping at the end
Its Remember Minky Momo Origin Al Ain UAE
I prefer Bart VS the Space Mutants.
LJN made this game, and the AVGN is pissed off about it.
Your telling me that the commercial just said bart meets radioactive man is the best simpsons nes game but do I expect to be good? No they fucked up the game, what kinda crack were they on?!?!?!? If its the best simpsons game on nes, why couldn't they just test out the game?!?!?
Que jogo legal
Man, this game is so garbage. Yet I can never stay away. It’s like the Burger King of Nintendo games. It makes me sick, but I always want more...
Looks better than the first two is it?
I thought it was the worst game of the three. I found it really boring.
the simpsons havent chamged a bit have they
I've never played this game but it looks like it has the same crappy controls as Bart vs The World and Bart vs The Space Mutants.
Controls were a little better in this one.
Why bart simpson black?
Its very hard.
is sad the game is dedicaded a dead person
Who?
FUCKED VISA IN BRAZIL !!!!
HUAHUA
Game with Simpson sux, but speedrun is almost OK
I don't understand this game at all
